79439282_679233489275084_1475358018211151872_o.jpg

This is definitely a time of the year where there is a LOT going on that we can hardly keep up with. Our Best Of Springfield Music 2019 annual poll has wrapped up on voting, and we are to the point now where we are scrambling searching for people to assist with short write-ups for each of the finalists for the categories of best albums/releases, songs, and shows that came out of Springfield during this past year. This year we are once again teaming up with Activator Magazine to have this as their January issue. We are aiming for write-ups for the top ten songs, top ten shows, and top twenty releases.

If you are interested in doing a write-up, we can have you chose from a list of finalists to take on, and we are only looking for a short paragraph!! We do need these quick though, like within the next two days!! If you are interested in doing a write-up, which will be featured on our site and also in Activator Magazine, reach out to us at dumbrecs@gmail.com and we will send you a list of finalists we need write-ups for!

December 28th at Dumb Records: Hip Hop Humpday Presents Springfield Community Broadcasters Benefit

HipHopHumpDayPresents2.jpg

Oh, you thought we were done announcing our shows for this year?! No, we still have a couple left, we are just letting you know really last minute on these! This one is happening on Saturday, December 28th at our space. It’s going to be yet another benefit for Springfield Community Broadcasters in their mission to get programming formerly on 88. 3 WQNA back on the air. And this one is being put together by Hip Hop Humpday, which used to be on for three hours every Wednesday afternoon. This show features a stacked lineup of some of the biggest hitting hip hop acts. This includes Kid Ziggy & Papa Luke of Zippir Collective, a duo that packed the house the last time they performed at our most recent hip hop show. Also Meezy Killafield is on the show and ready to show us all that he means business. We have the return of Junior Pasáre, and Cornbread to our space! Also the fantastic duo of Deezy Da Paperboy and Alexa Redd will be doing a special set. Big Homie Hom is the one other act that we have not had on a show here yet! Oh wait, there might be another opener right at 7:30 pm and that is Gambinoo Indacut, a young up and coming artist.

This show kicks off at 7:30 pm that day! For admission we are asking a minimum $5 donation to the cause. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at our space.

Jeff Black (The Radon Lounge) Announced As New Partner of Dumb Records 2020

IMG_0013.jpg

Here we are today with a big announcement of more of our inner workings at Dumb Records headquarters. The big announcement of the end of The Radon Lounge as Springfield’s longest running basement venue left a lot of us hanging with the question of what was going to be next for Jeff Black and those involved with the lounge. Well, if you can believe it… Dumb Records is next for Jeff. Today we are announcing a merging of sorts between us and all of the wonderful elements that The Radon Lounge brought to the table in Springfield DIY Music. Jeff is joining up as a partner in Dumb Records 2020, a year of the future. Here is Jeff’s announcement from The Radon Lounge page:

I’ve always felt Dumb Records is one of the most consistently interesting things happening in town. I’m joining the Dumb Records team in 2020 and will continue hosting monthly shows there.

The main thing for me is giving the Springfield community something different, original, creative, and interesting to experience. one thing I know is if you put a lot of work and time into something, it doesn’t necessarily mean everyone else is going to dig it. Radon Lounge had its last show on Saturday to a super packed crowd and it’s been real exciting to see how many people cared about this weird basement thing I’ve been doing for the last 8 years.

We’re currently planning out some exciting new Dumb projects that I can’t wait to talk about. Although first, we have some less exciting behind the scenes work to get done to ensure Dumb’s future success. And when Brian’s not looking I’ll sneak in a few pinball machines.

One thing I’m definitely looking forward to is putting an address on show flyers. Speaking of shows, mark your calendar for January 19th as that will be my first show as an official Dumb Records boy.

-Jeff

What does this mean for us? Who are all those guys standing up there and what is everyone’s roll in this dumb record store? Yes, you might have seen that Jeff hinted at some pinball machines for us in the future, and we can say that there are a number of exciting projects we have in the works. Jeff’s first show is happening at our space January 19th and we’ll have an official announcement for that one shortly. We’ll just have to keep you posted as we move on into the new year taking on new projects. Maybe we’ll update The Black Sheep history page at some point to include some newer things at our downtown location, which we have been in for nearly a full year now. As always, thank you for everyone’s support!

Tonight at Dumb Records: Black Box, Blushe, Freon, Prevention

75450141_2887291021322246_531880585203810304_o

Looks like we’ve got ourselves a 90% chance of snow at 7:00 pm tonight, but that is also going to be start time for this hot hot punk gig that’s going on at our space! Tonight is big cassette tape release show for local hardcore band Black Box, who also just got done touring the country. The Black Box demo – “What Happens Inside” is already up streaming online, which you can check out on the player below. Also on this show is local Springfield/Bloomington band Blushe. Also coming up from St. Louis is… a newer group called “Freon”! Opening things up… looks like we’ve got another Prevention!

All of that starts tonight at 7:00 pm and the show is only $5 (what a deal). Find a facebook event for this one right here. Be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Dumb Records in the near future.

(Final) Radon Lounge Show Tonight: 6’10”, Idle Oath, The Uh Ohs, David Lasley & Sophia Magruder

77106451_2886958511314658_4849065927414644736_o

Wow, we can hardly believe it but the final ever Radon Lounge show is happening tonight after eight years of the house venue putting on shows in Springfield. We’re not sure what’s next for Jeff and his crew but we’re going to pop on our favorite Christmas sweater and grab a sled and let’s all head over to the lounge tonight. The big act on the bill from Chicago this time is 6’10 (like six foot ten inches), the height of the guy who is in Flatfoot 56 (the band). Stream some of 6’10’s music on the player below. Also playing is Springfield indie duo Idle Oath – they are actually playing at our space the night before for the Springfield Community Broadcasters benefit as well! There’s another group from Chicago on the bill called “The Uh Oh’s” playing music that is supposedly Christmas appropriate.  Opening things up is David Lasley and Sophia Magruder.

That show starts at The Radon Lounge at 7:00 pm and is $5. Don’t know where the Radon Lounge is? You can inquire at radonlounge@gmail.com. Find a facebook event for this show right here. And also be sure to check out our Springfield shows page where we try to list off other shows going on in town but do a bad job at keeping up at it.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Springfield Community Broadcasters Benefit With Epsom, Sonic Maximizer, Idle Oath, Arlin & Erin

howsthislookdanny

Yes, we do have a show going on tonight!! Tonight is important because it’s a benefit for the Springfield Community Broadcasters (SBC), or programming that was formerly on WQNA 88.3 FM. The community station as we know it had the plug pulled a month or so ago. SBC’s mission is to acquire licensing for another station to get programing formerly on WQNA back on the air. They are raising money for licensing costs, equipment, and to potentially acquire a new location for the station. They got a new website set up at sbcradio.org!

Who do we got playing tonight? Epsom is at the top of the bill, a band we all know is going to rock. The newer local duo that is grade-A quality music, Idle Oath will be playing as well. Idle Oath features Mark Beanblossom who was a DJ on Thursday evenings on 88.3 WQNA. Stream some of their music on the player below. We also have Snuff Rider lined up… instrumental heavy surf band… but guess what, they have changed their name to SONIC MAXIMIZER. We can hardly handle that new name, sorry the flier above isn’t updated. Opening things up is Arlin Peebles and Erin Steinhauer! A duo that you all know and love from The Studio show.

That show starts at 7:00 pm, and for admission we are asking donations of at least $5 to go towards the cause. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page to see what else is coming up at our space in the near future.

Vote In Our Best of Springfield Music 2019 Year End Poll!!

2019_4x4.jpg

The time has come! It’s December, which means that it’s once again time for our annual Best of Springfield Music poll! This is the EIGHTH time we have done this poll, started on this site in 2012. This time we are once again teaming up with Activator Magazine and the results will be published along with fun write-ups by members of our music and art community of the top choices. We came up with a total of 59 total releases to come out of Springfield this year by bands, hip hop acts, and solo artists. We understand that we may still be missing some, so let us know or email us at dumbrecs@gmail.com if you know of any we are missing and we will add them to the poll as soon as possible. As with past years, our poll is divided into three categories: best local releases, best local songs, and best local shows of the year 2019. Of course the shows category is not at all limited to Dumb Records, it could be any show that happened anywhere in town.

VOTE HERE

Voting will be active NOW until exactly one week from now, December 15th at 11:11 pm. Good luck out there! Results will be published in your top ten choices for each category (maybe top 20 for albums) at the very end of this month or beginning of January and also in next month’s Activator Magazine. Check out the results from the top ten releases of 2018 last year right here.
