During May of 1869 Abraham Lincoln arrived in Springfield, IL for his last funeral and burial service. Over 120,00 people, from all over the country, were in attendance to morn the passing of the Nation’s 16th president. Lincoln was placed into a guarded public receiving vault with his son Willie. He then was moved into a family receiving vault in the same year and finally, into the Lincoln Tomb in 1871. The tomb was completed in 1874 and after its completion Lincoln’s body was moved over 14 times within the tomb. In 1989 the tomb was renovated and Lincoln was placed below the burial chamber in 1902. Today Lincoln rests 10 feet below his grave-marker as his final resting place. The one true Graveswitcher.
