years active: 2005 – 2010

Renae was a band that I formed with my brother and friends in late
2005. We named it after our Mother, Janice Renae Puckett, who had died
of cancer the year prior.  I would say this was our coping mechanism –
to write music and play shows.  we spent most of 2006-2010 breaking
into the ‘scene’ and touring.  by 2007 we were touring coast to coast,
and by 2008 we were doing successfully in the midwest and the east
coast.  we put out two demos and two EPs.

The Coward, The Storm, & The Outlaw was recorded in 2008 after several
lineup changes.  This record broke us into Springfield and the midwest
at large.  2008 and 2009 we averaged about 150-200 shows a year.  At
the end of 2009, we recorded another EP called …And Hell Follows,
which was a follow up to the last EP, and it was a darker, more
post-hardcore inspired record.  This record was released on Hot Foot
Records out of Long Island, NY.

Adam left the band shortly after to pursue married life and Kasey
joined three days into a tour – we toured nearly 200 more shows in
2010 and broke up in birmingham alabama while on tour with Venia.  The
tour was called The Steady Diet of Nothing Tour – in order to raise
awareness and money for starving children around the world.  We
finished the two weeks of tour we had – and we pretty much destroyed
ourselves and everything around us those last two weeks – with a very
black-flag-nervous-breakdown intensity.  Black Sheep was always home
to Renae and wherever we went we told people about how fun our shows
were there.

We did a reunion in september 2011 with a record crowd of around 300
people.  It was a blast.  We are all friends despite the highly
controversial and epic chaos that became our friendships after years
on the road.
