What’s going on this weekend coming up around town? Well, we don’t have anything lined up at Bread Stretchers Friday or Saturday (we do have a show Sunday), but there is this really cool show happening at The Radon Lounge on Saturday, April 20th that you should probably know about! This is actually The Radon’s last show for the season! They’ll be back in the fall after this. For this show they’ve got some big NPR featured guy, David Dondero at the top of the bill. Where’s this guy from, Chicago? Stream some of his music on the player below. Radon has got a solid group of local acts this time around as well. This includes Nectar from Champaign and very familiar to Springfield – who just released their album “Knocking at the Door” on LP which we have copies of at Dumb. Bottom Bracket are playing, great. Night Night Boy are playing as well – the second show for the new Springfield supergroup lineup featuring members of Park, Looming, and Soap Scum!
This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show here. We told Jeff that we’d be doing something as Dumb Records but we are not completely sure what. We think our old man mascot is going to be handing out old 45s to show goers from his trousers, we’ll see. Check out our Springfield shows page for other non-Bread Stretchers shows here.
There are no shows lined up at our space right now (and not even a whole lot in Springfield at all as far as we can tell), so we want to tell you about cool shows still going on at cool places like The Radon Lounge. This one is happening later this month on Saturday, March 23rd at The Radon. It’s their first ever all hip hop show over there! Wow! We are not even familiar with most of these artists. At the top of the lineup is Otto San – is that someone from Springfield? Jeff? Up before that there’s “Kid Ziggy.” We’ve got Kid Ziggy’s soundcloud player embedded below right down there, you can go ahead and have a listen. Looks like Kid Ziggy is in fact from right here in Springfield. Before that is “Papa Luke”, yes from right here in town. Jazz Robots… are playing as well…. from Chicago! Wow! Last but not least is Animals With Human Names who of course we all know. And as usual The Radon Lounge is getting all fancy pantsy with having guest artists and this time it’s art of “Talismen” on display.
This Radon Lounge show starts at 7:00 pm on 3/23 and admission is just five bucks. Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is going on around town (not a whole lot from what we can tell). Ask about where the Radon Lounge is if you want at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here’s another show happening not at our space but that’s coming up in town for us to tell you about. It’s Saturday, February 16th at The Radon Lounge and should be a good one. They have this indie / psych rock band coming from St. Louis called “We Are Warm” (we hope that we are going to be a lot warmer than what it’s been like outside these last few days, that’s for sure). You can stream their music on that soundcloud player below. The other full band on the bill is “The Randys” from Lawrenceville, Illinois wherever that is! Where’s Lawrenceville? And who is Randy? Come to the show to find out. Actually there’s another full band, and that is Star Stuff who played their first show late last year at Black Sheep we are pretty sure. Opening things up is the very talented solo act, “Dexter.” In addition to all of this music there will be works on display by local artist Devin Larson as well.
All of this happening at 7:00 pm that night and you can count on there being La Crouix, pinball, probably coffee, probably other stuff. Admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Check out our Springfield Shows page. Check out The Radon Lounge’s website, especially if you don’t know where it is.
Every year in December our good friends over at Springfield basement venue The Radon Lounge put on their annual Christmas show, and it’s usually a nice time. Usually it’s a Christmas “explosion” but it looks like this year there will be no exploding, instead they are calling it “Dressember” looks like. This is happening this upcoming Saturday, December 8th. This one features a special local vendor (not a music group) called Simply Fair. For performing acts there is “Levi The Poet” doing spoken word coming all the way from Albuquerque, New Mexcio! Wow! Musical acts include Dan Smith – who is a part of the project Listener who has played a few big shows at the Radon before. Also Kris Rochelle of Red Sweater Lullaby and also Listener will be performing.
Looks like that’s the show – we are sure The Radon Lounge has some other things up their sleeves like coffee and arcade games and art and stuff (they usually do). Admission is $10 and tickets are sold in advance right here. 7pm. Check out a facebook event right here. Also check out our Springfield shows page where we only have this show listed right now.
Yesterday we told you what we have lined up at Black Sheep this Saturday – a 217 Showcase featuring hip hop and R&B from the area. Looks like you all have options for great shows going on in town that night! Our friends over at The Radon Lounge are putting on a big event, which will also be the first show of the season for them since last spring. (The Springfield house venue usually takes a break during the summer). This time the basement venue is bringing in big Chicago Topshelf Records band Ratboys. Stream the newest music by Ratboys on the player below. This show also features quite the lineup of other groups. This includes Knotts from Cincinnati, Ohio. Also a newer local singer/songwriter called “Flunkie“. Opening things up is a new local hip hop project with a live backing band called Yung Magic. Also The Radon Lounge has been throwing featured artists and local businesses into the mix with their shows – this one features art and books by “Two Long Ears“.
All of that starts over at The Radon Lounge at 7:00 pm this Saturday. Admission is $10. Check out a facebook event for that one right here. Also be sure to check out our Springfield shows page for a list of shows going on outside of Black Sheep that we will hopefully update later today.
This week it looks like there is a pretty big show happening over at Springfield house venue The Radon Lounge – supposedly their last for a minute as they take a break this summer season to return in the fall. This one is happening this upcoming Tuesday, May 15th. Big national touring act Listener is once again making a return to the Radon. You can stream their newest album below to hear what Listener is all about. It looks like on tour with Listener this time around is a California-based spoken word project – “Hotel Books“. Then a familiar act to Black Sheep, Spell Breaker, will be performing at The Radon Lounge for the first time. Clare Frachey of the band (and Black Sheep owner) will also be featured artist of the night! Opening things up The Radon has local poet (also part of the Dumb Records team) Johari Idusuyi on board.
This show starts over at The Radon at 7:00 pm and admission is $10. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Not sure on where the Radon Lounge is? You can further inquire on their website.
The next show we have to tell you about happening one week from today is at The Radon Lounge on Saturday, March 3rd. First of all look at that wonderful painting by Chris Martin – Chris will be the featured artist at The Radon for this show. (The Radon Lounge has been featuring different local artists set up at each show in one corner of their basement). The touring act on this bill is a group called Veseria from Indianapolis, Indiana. You can stream some of their music on the player below. Then there’s another band more familiar to The Radon and that is shoegaze project Hushpad from Lincoln Illinois. Lined up before that is Springfield rock group Epsom playing at The Radon Lounge for the first time. Solo Acoustic act Alec James is opening, also first time performing at The Radon Lounge.
That show is at 7:00 pm and is $5 admission. To find out where The Radon Lounge is, you must inquire on their website. Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our Springfield shows page for a list of shows going on in Springfield outside of Black Sheep.
