Nice, we’ve even got all of the links right there! Okay this is where we need your help listing off any that we are missing. Let’s say a release includes a grouping of two or more original songs by a local Springfield band or artist – we’ll include nearby cities such as Jacksonville, Taylorville, or Decatur. If you know of any, comment below, or email us at dumbrecs@gmail.com! We are going to kick off our poll as early as five days from now or something, and publish results at the end of the month / beginning of next month. Oh! And we are also teaming up with Activator Magazine once again for this feature to be in their January of 2020 issue!

Our end of the year poll usually includes the best shows, songs, and albums from local bands or artists for the year. We will likely do this format again, featuring the top 10 picks from each category.

Today we are bringing you a brand new album by local Springfield hip hop artist “Mvrty1300.” The album is a full nine tracks and called True Colors. You can find the album streaming on the soundcloud player embedded below. Check out a direct link to stream the album on youtube right here, or on soundcloud right here.

Yes, we are adding this one to our Springfield album archive page, which brings us to 50 releases from this year featured on our site. We’ll be compiling a list for our annual best-of’s poll here very soon and will be asking for your help in naming off releases we might have forgotten!

Dumb Records Donating 20% Of Sales To Springfield Community Broadcasters December 8th – 14th

dumbweekdonation2.jpg

We mentioned this little ditty along with our announcement for the benefit show that is happening at our space for Springfield Community Broadcasters (programming formerly on 88.3 WQNA fm) on Friday, December 13th. We felt it appropriate to make another post to make sure everyone out there knows. In the week leading up to our benefit show – from Sunday December 8th through Saturday December 14th – we will be donating 20% of our store sales to Springfield Community Broadcasters in their mission to obtain a radio license and get back on air! The license for 88.3 WQNA was sold to a Catholic Radio Group earlier last month, so that is no longer obtainable for SCB, but there are other routes being explored. The live stream can still be heard online at http://listen.wqnaradio.org/. The Dumb Records Radio Show is on hiatus at the moment until things further develop with SBC’s mission, but we are involved with a “True Freak” Radio Show that should be back on airing on Fridays at midnight on the live stream.

A GoFundMe page is still up and active online where you can donate directly right here. Dumb Records, Recycled Records, and The Elf Shelf are also all cash or check drop off points for donations at all times.

The Radon Lounge Announces An End To Shows After 8 Years

78680017_2913627938647715_694331220594524160_o.jpg

An almost completely unexpected announcement came today from our friends The Radon Lounge that they will no longer continue hosting shows at their basement venue after their upcoming Christmas show on Saturday, December 14th. Here’s the short version of the announcement:

Our show on December 14, 2019 will be the last Radon Lounge show, ever.

It’s been a fun ride, 8 years is a very long life for a DIY house venue. I’m also happy to say these years have been entirely incident free and lots of good times. There are no bad reasons why this is happening, only good. Don’t worry as I’ll still be around filling up your feed with show invites as I can’t imagine living my life without shows and pinball.

Aaaand the long version of the announcement which includes a nice history of The Radon Lounge can be found as part of the announcement on their facebook page.

The final Radon Lounge show is taking place on Saturday, December 14th and features 6’10, Idle Oath, The Uh Ohs, David Lasley & Sophia Magruder, and the art of Kristin Diehl on display. Find a facebook event for that one right here.

We’ll be sure to post any updates on announcements regarding future endeavors The Radon Lounge or Jeff Black of The Radon Lounge may be involved with.

Emily Hough: “Jewel Tones” EP

72435852_2522833981137380_5515567606767026176_n.jpg

We are already about a whole month late in reporting in this great great local music release by Emily Hough, 17 year old up and coming artist who was featured on popular TV show The Voice. Emily has released a new 3-track EP called Jewel Tones as a follow up to her Glass EP from earlier this year. You can stream the first track off of that on the player below. You can stream all three tracks on youtube right here, or on CD baby right here.

We have added this one to our Springfield Album Archive list, bringing us to 49 releases we have had featured this year. Keep your eyes and ears posted for upcoming Emily Hough shows at our space before the end of this year.

Black Friday Record Store Day Today At Dumb Records, Show Tonight

BlackFriday_AlmostFinal

Good morning everyone and hope you had a great Thanksgiving, now it’s time for Black Friday Record Store Day!!! Our store opens in a few minutes at 8:00 am and looks like there have been some people in line since around 6:00 am!!

Of course some people are in line to get dibs on those limited exclusives that we have coming in. We will have free coffee and donuts.  Everything in the store other than the exclusive releases will be 25% off. This is the first time we have ever done a sale in the new store. We DO have a fresh run of shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and zip-ups in time for this day! We DO have gift cards available for the first time at the new store! We also just put out about a hundred extra used records into the store for the first time! Wow! We also have a few record players for sale!

Then there is a show happening at 7:00 pm that night at our space with five acts. This includes Kate The Band, who we all know and love. This also includes “Pretty Pleased” – a guy from Chicago whose music you can find streaming on the player below. Right smack dab in the middle is Ricki Marvel (formerly Eric Marvel), playing some of that electronic new wave music. Before that is… Animals with Human Names! Playing some old school hip hop after he gets done perusing our hip hop section in the store and taking advantage of that 25% off sale. Opening things up is Kenyon DeShasier playing some sweet sweet and refreshing indie pop.

Yes. Find a facebook event for all of that right here. Also check out our shows page where we keep a list of everything that’s coming up and going on.

State Journal-Register: “Local Stores To Mark Record Store Day”

4933023601_affb062398_k.jpg

Wow, we are mentioned in the local paper yet again. The State-Journal Register have an article in their big fat Black Friday Deals Thanksgiving newspaper about Black Friday Record Store Day being celebrated around the globe, and taking place at Dumb Records and Recycled Record downtown. (Let’s not forget to support The Elf Shelf even if they don’t have exclusives, because Record Store Day is about supporting the local record store). The paper talked with owners Brian Galecki and Mark Kessler about what each store has lined up for tomorrow. From the article:

This year’s event comes at an interesting time for both stores, as Dumb Records – previously located in the South Town district – closes in on one year since its move downtown and as Recycled Records owner Mark Kessler continues to entertain offers to sell his one-of-a-kind store.

For Galecki, the move downtown has been good for his business, which has seen increased traffic driven by tourists. He also lauded the neighborhood’s creative atmosphere.

Check out that full article online right here, or pick up a copy of today’s local paper while you still have time.

We open at 8:00 am tomorrow morning, and Recycled Records opens even earlier, but starts selling their Black Friday Record Store Day exclusives at 8:00 am. Check out a facebook event for what we have going on tomorrow right here. Don’t forget we have a show going on at 7:00 pm featuring Kate The Band, Pretty Pleased, Animals With Human Names, Ricki Marvel, and Kenyon DeShasier. Check out the Record Store Day website right here. We have been posting photos today of some of the exclusive releases before we get them priced and on the shelves for tomorrow morning.
