We Are Organizing A Downtown Springfield Pinball Tournament

IMG_6604

Yes, that’s right you heard that correctly. After getting multiple suggestions that we should do something like this, we are having a go at organizing a pinball tournament among downtown businesses, to kick off within the week. This will be a very socially distant tournament – business owners or representatives can come in to the arcade at any point to set their own scores without any sort of group in the arcade. This will be a double elimination style tournament with multiple rounds, and different games featured in each round.

We will be keeping track of scores and posting updates on our facebook page, as well as keeping a giant updated winners bracket in our score. Right now the tournament’s first round is shaping up as follows:

1. WILLOW & BIRCH vs. SPRINGFIELD VINTAGE
2. GALLINA’S PIZZA vs. CORRINE’S CLOSET
3. MAYOR LANGFELDER vs. RESOURCE ONE
4. KRISTI MITCHELL PHOTOGRAPHY vs. LA PIAZZA
5. REVERIE APPAREL vs. PRAIRIE ARCHIVES
6. GOOD HEART TATTOO vs. ABRAHAM LINCOLN
7. DAISY JANE’S vs. DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELD INC.
8. MURPHY’S LOFT vs. CUSTOM CUP
9. THE PHARMACY GALLERY vs. PURE PERFORMANCE FITNESS CENTER
10. WILD ROSE vs. PUBLIC MARKET

Round 1 features the most popular pinball game Medieval Madness, and participants have from August 21st through September 6th to set their high scores.

The winner of the tournament will get an official “downtown Springfield pinball champion 2020” trophy to put on display in their own business.

Who do you think is going to win? Place your bets now on our online underground pinball forum.

Illinois Times Best Of’s 2020 Nominee Voting Begins Now

bestof2020

It’s that time of year again. Yes, even a pandemic can not stop it. The time that we all love, and we all hate at the same time. The Illinois Times Best Of’s series. This time: 2020 edition. And the same with previous years, first is “nominee voting” where we all place nominations for our favorite local businesses, people, and events to go on as finalists in another round. Nominee voting goes from August 13th-24th. Then the real deal finalist voting is September 17th-28th. Then winners are selected and published in October.

To go vote in the nominee voting, head on over to the Illinois Times website right here.

We were lucky enough to win in the category of “Best New Business Downtown” last year. (A category we can only win once). This year we are once again in the running for “place to go downtown,” “best venue (small)”, and “best music shop.” Feel free to vote for us if you want! In addition to all of those categories, there is voting for your favorite local bands and musicians, restaurants and food spots, etc.

We usually do our own “best of’s” poll at the end of each year highlighting shows (R.I.P. for 2020) and local band releases.
