Pinball Tournament Final Round RECAP

photo by Justin L. Fowler / The State Journal Register

A LOT just happened yesterday and we are still trying to recuperate from all of it. For now though, here is our best shot at offering a RECAP of the pinball tournament’s final round, our “virtual cash mob”, and our big new game reveal.

The Virtual Cash Mob was a great success. Thank you to all who purchased items or just tuned in, and thank you to Downtown Springfield Inc. for giving us the opportunity to do that. Our online store from that is now taken down, so if you missed out on those deals we are sorry. Maybe we will do it again sometime. And maybe some tie-dye shirts will make their way into our store eventually.

As for the great Downtown Pinball Tournament of 2020, PRAIRIE ARCHIVES is the winner after winning two out of three games in the game “Blackout” against Craft Beer Bar. Congratulations to Robb and Prairie Archives, who took home the glass trophy made by the SAA Collective. Thank you to all 30+ businesses that participated in this whole tournament, this whole thing turned out better and more fun than we ever could have imagined. You can bet we’ll be doing this again next year, maybe with some tweaks.

Robb got to pull back the curtain on a brand new pinball game in our arcade which turned out to be TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (2020). This game has a built in high definition TV screen, a spinning magnetic pizza, six balls, and is some next-level material.

Downtown Pinball Tournament Round 4 RECAP

Yes, our pinball tournament is still going on… and now wrapping up ROUND 4 of the tournament we are now down to the final TWO competing businesses in all of downtown!!! Round 4 featured the non-pinball arcade Asteroids from 1979. Here is what the final scores for this round were:

PRAIRIE ARCHIVES = 28,200
THE PHARMACY = 7,850

OLD STATE CAPITOL = 18,830
CRAFT BEER BAR = 26,030

This means that PRAIRIE ARCHIVES and CRAFT BEER BAR are the ones to move on and go head to head in the final round!!! The final round has been scheduled to be a live video where the two competitors play the best two out of three games, right after our Virtual Cash Mob video at noon on Thursday, October 8th. However now Craft Beer Bar is letting us know this time will not work for them so… we might have to figure something out here. Stay tuned for more!

October 8th at Noon: Dumb Records Virtual Cash Mob, Pinball Tournament *FINAL ROUND*, *NEW GAME REVEAL* (All Live)

Are you ready for us to dump a ton of stuff happening all at once on you right now??? Get ready…

On Thursday, October 8th, at NOON, on the Downtown Springfield Inc. facebook page:

We are participating in a “VIRTUAL CASH MOB.” What is this? What does this mean? It means we are going to be selling a bunch of stuff exclusively through an online store at this time along with a live video showing you these items. There are going to be some really really good deals, so you are going to have to be logged in watching the live video to act quick! This live video will be shown on the Downtown Springfield Inc. facebook page. We will have the link up to an online shop where each item will be for sale as well. For this you can expect good deals on new and used records, turntables and speakers, exclusive t-shirts and merch items, and more surprises along the way!! Expect the cash mob to go for 30 minutes from 12:00 to 12:30 pm. It will also be hosted by Momentum on Main Street member Kristina Barbee. For other examples of Cash Mobs other downtown businesses have been doing, check out the Downtown Springfield Inc facebook page! We will be posting more hints on our facebook page of items we are going to be selling on the virtual cash mob leading up to the event.

The OTHER big thing that is going to be happening LIVE, IMMEDIATELY after we are done with our cash mob also on the Downtown Springfield Inc. facebook page on the same live video is THE FINAL ROUND OF OUR PINBALL TOURNAMENT. By this time the tournament will be down to TWO competing businesses. The game they will be playing, *live* is going to be Blackout (1980). This is a fast moving game, and the winner of the tournament will be the best two out of three of that game. This will be intense. The winner will get a trophy and a gold key to our our arcade, and a champion t-shirt.

THEN, last but not least the WINNER of our tournament will be pulling back the curtain on a NEW GAME that we WILL HAVE in our ARCADE!!!! LIVE!!!!!

That’s it for now. Be sure to follow the Downtown Springfield Inc. facebook page and tune in on that day and time for all of the fun.

News Channel 20: “Dumb Records Hosts Pinball Tournament”

You are probably all sick of hearing about this pinball tournament from us by now. Well, it’s still going on, and will be until October 8th. Things are getting more intense, and now even News Channel 20 has caught on to our madness and has decided to cover the story. We appeared on the nightly news this past Sunday night. The article along with video clip online “Dumb Records Hosts Pinball Tournament” can be found online right here. From the article:

“It’s been a blast, it really had. It’s been a great way to just build community. We already have a great community downtown but it’s been a way to further that community,” said Tyler Smith, with the Public Market.

Brian Galecki, co-owner of Dumb Records says it’s a great way to have fun.

As you can see in the video, Dumb Records owner Brian Galecki’s mask has fallen down past his nose. Dumb Records the corporation acknowledges that this is not the appropriate wear to wear a facemask during this pandemic, and proper precautions are being made to notify owner Brian Galecki making sure this will never happen again.

Round One of Downtown Pinball Tournament Extended, Store Closed Monday

Okay, time for an update on a couple of things.

Our big downtown Springfield pinball tournament has been going very strong and has been a lot of fun. You might be following us on facebook where we have been posting updates as new scores of businesses participating are coming in. We also have all current scores and listings posted on our pinball forum. Today we are letting you and participating businesses know that we are pushing back the deadline for round one scores until the end of the night on Tuesday, September 8th. The deadline was previously this Sunday, September 6th. There is a retailers meeting at our space on Tuesday so this will allow some more businesses one more chance at putting down scores. Good luck! After Tuesday night we will be posting a big update including some adjusted and final dates to later rounds, and an updated tournament bracket.

In addition to that news, our store is going to be closed on Monday for Labor Day!

Our Downtown Springfield Businesses Pinball Tournament Has Kicked Off!

Let the fun begin!!! Yesterday we officially kicked off our first ever Official Downtown Springfield Businesses Pinball Tournament here at Dumb Records. Pictured above are our first two contenders, representing businesses Prairie Archives and Public Market setting each of their high scores. Right now we have a nice round number of 32 businesses participating, but we are open to more joining during this first round. The tournament is a single-elimination style tournament with multiple rounds, and each round featuring a different game in our arcade. This first round features the game Medieval Madness and goes from now until September 6th. Businesses have until then to come in or send employee representatives over to set their high scores.

We will report back with the results for the final round on this site, and also give daily updates over on our facebook page. The winner gets a trophy.

We Are Organizing A Downtown Springfield Pinball Tournament

IMG_6604

Yes, that’s right you heard that correctly. After getting multiple suggestions that we should do something like this, we are having a go at organizing a pinball tournament among downtown businesses, to kick off within the week. This will be a very socially distant tournament – business owners or representatives can come in to the arcade at any point to set their own scores without any sort of group in the arcade. This will be a double elimination style tournament with multiple rounds, and different games featured in each round.

We will be keeping track of scores and posting updates on our facebook page, as well as keeping a giant updated winners bracket in our score. Right now the tournament’s first round is shaping up as follows:

1. WILLOW & BIRCH vs. SPRINGFIELD VINTAGE
2. GALLINA’S PIZZA vs. CORRINE’S CLOSET
3. MAYOR LANGFELDER vs. RESOURCE ONE
4. KRISTI MITCHELL PHOTOGRAPHY vs. LA PIAZZA
5. REVERIE APPAREL vs. PRAIRIE ARCHIVES
6. GOOD HEART TATTOO vs. ABRAHAM LINCOLN
7. DAISY JANE’S vs. DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELD INC.
8. MURPHY’S LOFT vs. CUSTOM CUP
9. THE PHARMACY GALLERY vs. PURE PERFORMANCE FITNESS CENTER
10. WILD ROSE vs. PUBLIC MARKET

Round 1 features the most popular pinball game Medieval Madness, and participants have from August 21st through September 6th to set their high scores.

The winner of the tournament will get an official “downtown Springfield pinball champion 2020” trophy to put on display in their own business.

Who do you think is going to win? Place your bets now on our online underground pinball forum.
