Wow! Looks like we are hosting a show this month that will be a wonderful celebration of one full year of Activator Magazine doing their thing and activatin’ in Springfield!! We are truly lucky to have had this free magazine around for a full year covering some great things going on in Central Illinois music and arts! The lineup for this show features punk rockers MAC at the top of the bill – who will be performing here in Springfield for the first time actually! Nice! By the way look at that great flier by Carol Weems of Activator Magazine, great job Carol. Who’s next on the lineup? HECK?!? The solo project of Hannah Songer out of Bloomington. Also a brand new Springfield band called SNUFF RIDER will be playing their first show?? Featuring members of Imaginary Colours and Evan Mitchell’s one man band! Before that… a very rare rap performance by Aaron “Uncanny” Phillips!! Wow!! In all of our years working with Aaron hosting hip hop shows at our spaces we have never had him listed as a performer! Then opening things up or playing somewhere on the bill is some sort of karaoke set by DJ Milk and DJ Jess!!! We can not believe all of the wild and cool things going on for this show!

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. All proceeds will be split between our show space and Activator Magazine. There will also be cake and “free sh*t”! Wow! Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at our space in the new future!

Oh boy we are on a row getting you some of that hot new local music on a daily basis! (Well, we guess it’s all of you local musicians out here that are on a roll). Today we bring you a brand new album from solo electronic project Imaginary Colours. The album is called Among The Horizon and you can find it streaming on the player below. You can also head over to the Imaginary Colours bandcamp page to purchase the download of the album, or stream any of their previous releases.

Imaginary Colours doesn’t have any live shows lined up at this point as far as we know. We are adding this album on to this year’s list on our Springfield album archive page which you can check out right here!

Tonight… yes, tonight. The big event that we’ve been talking a lot about this past month or so – tonight as part of the Levitt AMP Springfield Concert Series, The Legendary Skatalites from Jamaica, est. 1964 will be performing, *for free*, downtown Springfield on the Y-Block. How amazing is that?

The show will be going on from 6:00 to 8:30 pm on the block which is located between 4th and 5th streets, in between Capitol Avenue and the governor’s mansion. Bring a lawn chair if you want. There is an opening act – “TaQsem” from here in town. The Skatalites are supposed to be taking the stage from 7:00 to 8:30 *if* everything goes according to schedule. It doesn’t look like we have any on the forecast, but in the case of rain, the concert will be moved to Central Baptist Church on 4th street right next to the block.

Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Check out the full list of other Levitt Concerts coming up Thursday nights this summer right here.

IMG_6432.jpg

Would you believe it, but Activator Magazine has now made it one full year into existence with the first issue having came out June of 2018. This month’s issue for the local action-packed music magazine is number #13. Have you collected them all? We sure haven’t but maybe we can try. This post is to let you know that we have the June 2019 issue now available for free in our store. It includes local hip hop artists Deezy Da Paperboy and Cornbread on the cover, with an interview with them inside. Also plenty of album reviews, a monthly Central Illinois show calendar, a look at what festivals are happening in our area this summer, plenty of photos, and much much more. Wow.

Activator Magazine is awesome and free and in our store all of the time. You should consider checking out their Patreon page online where you can pledge to make a monthly donation to support them doing what they do.

Oh! And by the way, we will be celebrating one year of Activator Magazine with a show at our show space this month on June 22nd! Find a facebook event for that one right here – we’ll also have an official post for that one up soon.

We gotta keep this ball rolling with new local music every single day!! It feels great!! Here you go! Today we bring you a brand new song from a local recording project we didn’t even know existed up until recently – the project is called “Musical Realists” and features sound artist Timothy Donavan Russell and his son Timothy. Together, they are Musical Realists and they are here to bring you some very interesting and real music. Today’s music is a brand new track of theirs called “Bunny Ah Ah Crunch,” which comes from a fourth-coming album. Stream that song below.

Apparently this project has had two long albums – Electrouble released last year and Frog Coin released in 2014. Head over to the Musical Realists bandcamp page to check both of those out. We are adding those both to our Springfield album archive page right now.

It’s hard enough for us to keep up with all the festivals going on downtown anymore, let alone all of Springfield, let alone all of Central Illinois.  However, it’s been a minute since we’ve told you about any summer festivals in other Illinois towns that are close enough for an hour or so drive to Springfield so here we go! Here is a new festival happening in Bloomington, Illinois called “Real Ones Only Fest” happening on Saturday, July 20th. It’s current lineup features a whopping 18 bands predominately of the grindcore and fast hardcore genres. If you like fast intense music then this is the festival for you! We also hope you like your band names written out in all caps because that is what you’re getting for the lineup below:

Have we told you about this show yet?? It seems like we have – maybe we mentioned it in our post about Kate Laine going out on her first tour later this month. Anyways, this one is happening two weeks from today on Thursday, June 19th! You better be there. This features touring act Jordan Collins from Spokane, Washington who is going to be on tour with Kate Laine this month. This is one of the dates on that tour. Stream Jordan’s music on the player below if you want. Also on this show is solo act Flunkie – who released a new song that we posted about a couple of days ago. Nice. Layers will be performing as well, the two-piece, post-Renae, poetry fusion project. Alice Currie of the band Attic Salt will be performing a solo set as well. And of course, we have Kate Laine on the bill too. We think it’s just a solo set of hers this time around.

57106695_517642192100882_8606921711641690112_o

We are trying to keep it going on updating our currently pretty out of date list of local active bands on our website! There have been a lot of new bands forming within the past few months, and Blushe is without a doubt one to be paying attention to! So, today we bring you a new page on our site for Blushe – although it might not be much. Check that out right here. Hopefully we can be on the lookout for new recordings and shows from Blushe in the near future.

Check out our current bands page on our site right here. Do you play in a local band or are a local musician who has not gotten a page together with us? Reach out to dumbrecs@gmail.com and we will work with you to get something set up!
