Today… keeping up with our ongoing roll of new Springfield local music we are excited to be bringing you this *exclusive* brand new two-track release from a new project that evolved from Kate Laine’s solo material – Kate The Band. Kate The Band has just dropped two hot new tracks – “Wine & Dine” and “Starry Eyes” and you can find them both streaming on the player embedded below. Head over to the Kate The Band bandcamp page to purchase the download of the songs.

Kate Laine will be going on a solo tour herself starting… tonight! Tonight in St. Louis at Foam is the first of a seven day stretch along with Jordan Collins from Washington! Amazing! The last day of the stretch is happening one week from today at our spot, (June 19th). Be sure to check out more info on that show right here and come out!

Kate released Recurring Dream as a debut album under her solo project in 2017. We’ll also be adding this two-track release to our Springfield album archive (number 444)!

Photos: The Skatalites (Levitt AMP Music Series) 6-6-19

IMG_6548.jpg

We still can’t get over how magical last Thursday night was when we had the once in a lifetime opportunity and the planets aligned so that original Jamaican ska band The Skatalites could perform an outdoor concert in the heart of our downtown. This morning we are bringing you a collection of photos taken from that night (doesn’t look like any videos have really surfaced, sorry)! We’ve compiled a flickr photo album of 45 photos that you can check out right here. Photographers include Brian Galecki (Dumb Records), Carol Weems (Activator Magazine), and Adam Nicholson (Sala). Check those out there or a few above and below. There are a couple of opening act TaQsem as well.

The Skatalites on June 6th was one concert in a ten-part series – the next one happening tomorrow night (same place, same time) with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra Brass Band and Nashville Harpist “Timbre“. For the full list of concerts coming up on the block, go to the Levitt AMP Springfield website.

July 6th at Black Sheep: Jocko, Final Order, Animals With Human Names, Brute Force, Vincent Sebastian

61088012_2484604374924248_3064985582657601536_n.jpg

We have another slammer of a show to tell you about happening at Bread Sheep Records on Saturday, July 6th. It’s a slammer, but it’s a pretty nice and diverse bill as well. We have the mighty return of the mighty might band Jocko from Ohmaha, Nebraska. Jocko played here last at Black Sheep the first night of Dumb Fest 6 for those of you who were around for that… exactly one year ago! Stream some of Jocko’s music on the player below if you are unfamiliar. Also on this show is today’s featured band: Final Order. Right in the middle we have a curveball and that is local hip hop act Animals With Human Names, playing his first show at Bread Stretchers 2.0. Then we’ve got St. Louis area hardcore group Brute Force coming back to play the Bread Stretch for yet another time. Opening things up is another little curveball with the *chill* solo project of Vincent Sebastian.

All of this starts at 7:00 pm that day and it’s $7 to get in to see five acts. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else we’ve got coming up at Beard Strappers in the near future.

Deezy Da Paperboy & Cornbread: “Kush & Kollabs”

61173154_1182229178613531_8919772635630403584_o.jpg

Today we bring you some hot brand new Springfield music in the form of this collaborative hip hop release by two long time local rappers: Deezy Da Paperboy and Cornbread. Both of them had performed the first hip hop show at our space a couple of weekends ago. Both artists worked together to create a new mixtape called Kush & Kollabs – five brand new tracks which you can find streaming on the player below. Also head over to youtube and stream it here.

There was also an interview and writeup about the release in this month’s Activator Magazine, conducted by Ken No of Hip Hop Hump Day. From the interview:

The concept is that when you listen to the album, it only has five tracks, that represents our “Five On It” like that old Luniz track, plain and simple. We want it so when you put on the first track, I want listeners to be breaking it down to roll it up or pack it, or you already got it ready to go. I’m talking about marijuana. Weed’s gonna be legal recreationally soon so I don’t feel like I’m doing too much. So we’re taking them through this journey, and when we partake, we like to throw on some music.

For the full interview / writeup, pick up a free copy of Activator at Dumb Records today. You bet that this release is yet another one getting added to our Springfield album archive – now well over 400 archived releases from over the years.

New Band Pages: Final Order

IMG_0071

Gooood Monday Morning Springfield. We are kicking off another week right by bringing you another band page on our site and another featured band of the week. Would you believe it but we had not gotten one together for Final Order yet – a band that played their first show at Black Sheep back in August of last year (that means they’ve almost been around a full year)! Check that out right here. We have been told that recordings for this band are going to be released very very soon. They are actually playing the very next show at Bread Sheep coming up this Saturday, and then another one here as well on July 6th!

This puts us at a total of 40 current band pages on our site, all of which you can check out right here – we know we still have a lot to do with getting these updated however and catching up with all of the new projects that have been forming in town! If you are a local original musician or play in a band that has not gotten a page set up with us yet, shoot us an email at dumbrecs@gmail.com and we will work with you to get something set up!

“Abe Fest” Happening July 19th & 20th Downtown

59896246_636269043512355_5440584276712095744_n.jpg

With all of these downtown festivities happening and more being announced right around now, we bring you even more downtown festival news today – this time news of a very brand new festival happening right smack dab in the middle of summer! This one is called “Abe Fest” and it is happening on Friday and Saturday July 19th and 20th for the first time this summer. Headlining bands include The BoDeans for Friday night (American rock group from Wisconsin active since 1983) and The Smithereens on Saturday Night (alternative rock group active since 1980 from New Jersey). There was a nice article in the State Journal Register about the festival, online right here (sorry, we can’t see it because we haven’t subscribed online to SJ-R articles, we do try to buy the paper every once in a while though).  Local 1990s rock group The Spoonbenders will be uniting for the festival as well.

We can’t seem to find the full lineup or schedule for the fest listed out right now (or maybe it hasn’t been released yet), but you can be sure to follow Abe Fest on facebook for any festival updates as they come.

Forest Saints: “Intergalactic Radio”

a1223114758_10.jpg

Keeping our streak of new Springfield music somewhat going here – today we bring you a brand new album by Springfield recording project Forest Saints. The new album is called Intergalactic Radio – it’s a whopping 23 tracks clocking in at what looks like well over an hour of some very space oriented sounds and songs. Here’s somewhat of an explanation from the Forest Saints bandcamp:

Voyager 1 is a space probe which was launched by NASA on September 5, 1977. On August 25, 2012, it became the first spacecraft to cross the heliopause and enter the interstellar space. The most distant of all man-made objects, Voyager 1 continues to communicate with the Deep Space Network, receiving routine commands and transmitting data to Earth.*

On October 23, 2017, Voyager 1 began transmitting to Earth radio signals it was intercepting out in interstellar space. These radio signals were determined, after much analysis, to be emanating from a host of different solar systems. In fact, the signals were able to be traced back to specific exoplanets.

Voyager 1 has captured the first signals of intragalactic radio. Specifically, Voyager 1 has captured what can be described as the first sounds humans have heard of alien music. All of these sounds were determined to originate from within our galaxy, the Milky Way.

Forest Saints is the “psych-prog folktronica” musical project of Mark Schwartz. You can stream Intergalactic Space in its entirety below. Head on over to the Forest Saints bandcamp page to find other albums available or to purchase the download for this album. You bet we are adding this one to our Springfield album archive page – putting us at 441 releases listed.
