vincent.jpg

Today we bring you the second Activator Magazine video feature they have done, we are really digging these! The video was put together by Crowdson Creative, who also did the last featured Activator video and interview which was shot partially in our space for the band Blushe. This time around the featured artist is Vincent Sebastian and his backing band, who just put out the album Interference earlier this summer. The video features clips of Vincent Sebastian performing a couple of songs and also sitting down and doing an interview. You can check all of that out on the video below, or also on the Activator facebook page. Vincent Sebastian is featured in another print interview inside this month’s latest issue which is now available for free inside of Dumb Records and other varios locations.

Here we are bringing you some more new local music in the form of this release from Jacksonville-based hip hop artist “Prince Cash“.  You can find Price Cash’s new eight-song album Menace To Society streaming on the Soundcloud player below. The album was released earlier this summer. You can also find it streaming on Youtube right here.

A couple of weekends ago now we held CD release shows for two local artists in our space as part of Downhome Music Festival aftershows. One was for Dexter Anodyne, and the other for local band Master Bastard and their album Drinking With ChildrenDrinking With Children is now available streaming on a few different platforms, unfortunately not any that we are able to embed below. You can check out the album streaming on Spotify right here. Something called “iHeartRadio” right here? (Looks like you need to set up an account for that one too). Amazon.com has it (only 30 clips of the songs though and you have to buy the full mp3s) right here. The same goes with the album on Apple Music right here. We think it’s on “Google Play” too but don’t know how to link to it on that.  :-/

We have the album listed on our Springfield album archive page for this year right here. Master Bastard do not have any other shows lined up at our space as of yet. Keep an eye out!

New Band Pages: Black Box

65304053_131632274711183_4668655053918016154_n

It’s Monday! Welcome to a brand new week. Here we are bringing you yet another new Springfield band page for a brand new band. That band is “Black Box” and they are so brand brand new that they have only played three shows and don’t have recordings up yet. You can check out their new page right here where you can find out more about the band, and see a long list of related projects that more than likely is not complete. Black Box does not have any shows currently lined up at our space, but keep an eye out!

The current active band count for band pages we have on our site right now is 43! Yes, there are plenty of bands we don’t have pages for, and a few on that page that are inactive that we need to update. But check those all out right here. Do you play in a local band that has not gotten a page set up with us yet? Get in touch with us at dumbrecs@gmail.com and we will work with you to get something set up!

August 2019 Issue of Activator Available Now

IMG_8175.jpg

It’s a brand new month so we’ve got a brand new issue of Activator Magazine! The local / Central Illinois D.I.Y. Music-focused magazine has been going over one year strong at this point. Who has collected every issue?

On this month’s cover is local acoustic singer/songwriter Ben Bedford. Ben put out a new album The Hermit’s Spyglass at some point last year. His featured interview in Activator this month was actually conducted by Tom Irwin himself, another long time local musician.

You can also find album reviews, another interview with Vincent Sebastian, who also just put out a new album called Interference earlier this summer. In addition to all of this there is an interview with Pierre Berry – who has started “The Music Program Academy” teaching kids how to record and create music at the Salvation Army here in town. As usual, there is a writeup on the 217 hip hop scene put together by Ken No of “Hip Hop Hump Day” on 88.3 WQNA. Aaron Uncanny Phillips interviews local recording engineer at HISO Music, Shawn P. Christine Pallon of the bands Spandrels and Carly Beth out of Champaign/Urbana does a write-up on the recent “Girls Rock! 2019” event. There is a photospread from Audiofeed Music Festival which took place in Urbana last month, and as always Central Illinois and St. Louis live music calendars.

You can pick up you copy of Activator Magazine for free at Dumb Records and various other locations around town. Also check out the Activator Magazine Patreon page if you want to be a contributor to support what they are doing!

State Journal-Register: “Y-Block Passes Audition As Concert Series Ends”

Screen Shot 2019-08-02 at 11.09.51 AM.pngWith the final of ten concerts happening just last night, here is an article in today’s newspaper The State Journal-Register about the overall success of the series and what might be next for the “Y-Block” downtown not too far from our store. From the article:

One of the goals of the concert series was to test the possibilities of the block. While a building is eventually expected to rise on the end of the block along Capitol Avenue, the half closest to the Governor’s Mansion will have to remain open due to the presence of sewer pipes underneath.

The bustling scene – people armed with their lawn chairs and blankets as they mingled in lines for beer, food, and activities for kids while taking in another unique musical guest – is an example of what can be in the vacant block, according to event organizers and community leaders.

You can check out that full article on the SJ-R site online right here, or pick up your local paper at various places around town for two dollars like we did.

From our understanding our city is likely to apply for this same grant and concert series to take place next summer as well (something that doesn’t look like it has been officially announced just yet). We’ll be sure to keep you all updated with any updates or advancements in upcoming concert series or with the Y-Block. You can also follow the Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series facebook page for more updates.

Today On The Dumb Records Radio Show: Totally Nicholas

toatlynicklalssss.jpg

We sure have been having a fun time with getting more in the routine of getting guests on our radio program and recording episodes lately. We recently got a Mix Cloud page up for the Dumb Records Radio Show, and now have the past four episodes recorded and streaming there. It’s Friday so that means another episode of The Dumb Records Radio Show airs on 88.3 WQNA from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Today we have young local content creator “Totally Nicholas” coming in to hang out as guest. Totally Nicholas doesn’t have a whole lot to do with local music, but we’re glad to have him as a guest anyways. We’ll be sure to be plenty of local music and stuff from bands coming to town.

Again, The Dumb Records Radio Show airs today and every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA FM. It streams online at the same time on wqnaradio.org. Check out our radio page right here for more info and to listen to some past episodes streaming.
