The State Journal-Register: “City To Replace Outdated Meters”

Screen Shot 2020-02-16 at 6.04.03 PM

We are downtown now (and have been a year), so we guess this is news to us. Yesterday’s front paper headlines in the State Journal-Register read “City To Replace Outdated Meters,” meaning our parking meters, including the ones directly outside of our store, will soon be replaced. The meters themselves are around 25 years old, which means they are surpassing their typical life expectancy. What exactly they are going to be replaced with and when is not yet clear. The city will be holding an open house meeting this Thursday (February 20th) open to the public to discuss the future of the meters, the possibility of two-way streets replacing one-way streets downtown, and other upgrades. From the article:

A solution is coming — Mayor Jim Langfelder has set aside about $170,000 in his proposed budget for new meters, which will be among the topics discussed at an open house the city is hosting on Thursday. What exactly that solution looks like is less clear.

But what is clear is that fixing metered parking is just one piece to the larger downtown parking puzzle. While traffic studies routinely show an excess of spaces available on-street, in parking lots and in parking ramps, downtown business owners say there is still a disconnect between that reality and the perception that downtown parking is difficult.

You can check out the full article online right here. We would also like to point out that parking meters are enforced outside of our store from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on week days – any time outside of that (and all day on weekends) parking is free.

Screen Shot 2020-02-13 at 8.26.08 AM

It has been a minute since we have added any featured band pages to our site! This week we are proud to bring you… from the deepest darkest depths of the Springfield underground caverns… a new page for the new metal project, “Gargantuan.” Gargantuan has been playing shows since some point last year when a song mysteriously appeared on the internet. You can now stream a brand new Gargantuan track and read more about the mysterious new project on the new band page right here. Gargantuan’s next show is at Dumb Records on April 3rd.

You can check out any of the 30 or so current band pages we have on our site right here. Do you perform in a local band or are a local solo musician here in Springfield that has not gotten a page set up with us? Email us at dumbrecs@gmail.com and we will work with you to get one set up!

Today, or late last night, local Springfield solo artist Ty Witty released a new acoustic seven-track album called Embers. As far as we know the release is only available on Apple Music right now, which you can check out right here. The release will possibly be available on other streaming platforms later on.

Ty Witty is featured on the cover of this month’s issue of Activator Magazine, which includes a full interview about the new album and more. There are no live performances lined up that we know of. Ty released another album, For When It Rains last year. We’ve also added this one to our Springfield album archive, bringing us to a total of 502 releases.

Wow, that was too long of a break for us not having shows these past couple of weeks! We are ready to get back into the swing of things tonight, with this killer hip hop show lined up! There are SEVEN performers all on the bill tonight, ALL of which have not yet performed at our new space here downtown. At the top of the bill we have the queen of 217 hip hop and one of the best in our area, T-Roni. T-Roni performed at Black Sheep as well as all over the country and has won numerous contests for her performances. Also on this show we have long running local hip hop act Dirty Da Don performing here at Dumb Records for the first time. Stream a new song featuring both Dirty Da Don and T-Roni below. CLUTCH is another one on the bill, a long time performer here in town and had been on a few shows back at Black Sheep! Before that we are gonna Fly Rich! With Fly Rich! Who else do we got… OM33ZY from the area who has worked with a good number of other local artists and performed a few times at Black Sheep. Towards the beginning of the lineup we got a newer artist going by “Extravagant.” Opening things up is the first Springfield performance for BabyPac, who moved here from Galesburg, IL a couple of years ago.

All of this starts at 7:30pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good list of everything we have coming up at Dumb Records in the near future.

Today we bring you a brand new album from one of the acts performing at our big hip hop show lined up tomorrow night (hopefully the weather should be warmer by then). That is long time running local rapper Dirty Da Don, who is back at it with a new album called Project Legendary 5 Built 4 This. The album is streaming in full on Audiomack right here. Is the embedded player going to work for that site?? Looks like it does! Stream the album on the player below.

Looks like this is going to be local release #501, added on to this year to our Springfield album archive page! Don’t forget Dirty Da Don is also performing at our space tomorrow night (Saturday) along with six other artists who have not yet performed at our new space downtown.

Springfield Album Archive Page Hits 500 Listings

releeeee

This counts as exciting news, right? Today we are letting you know that the Springfield album archive page where we have been listing out and linking all Springfield band and artist releases (demos, albums, etc.) has hit a total of 500 listings! Most of these listings include links to where you can go listen to the release. Right now this ranges from Food And Money back in 1980 all the way to Ricki Marvel in 2020. That’s 40 years! We do know that this isn’t nearly anywhere close to cataloguing everything that has ever came out in Springfield, but we are constantly adding to this list. If you have music to be added (especially if you have links to where we can listen, or send us music directly) – feel free to reach out to us at dumbrecs@gmail.com.

It should also be noted that the vast majority of the albums we have listed have all came out within the last few years. The halfway point in all of that is at 2016. Either there’s been more music than ever coming out of Springfield in recent years and it’s easier for bands to record than it was in earlier years, or we have a lot of catching up on past years to do we are not sure… maybe a little bit of both cases.

Oh, we also did a little bit of updating to our grand ol’ history page, which by now takes a good sitting down to fully read.

Sensai Doog: “Live 4rm The Zoo II”

80393052_10157200627411137_8675559979136057344_n

Today we bring you another local release we are a little late to the game to – this one came out late at the end of last year in December. Thanks to Ken No of Hiphophumpday killing it in the review section of Activator Magazine, we are able to get the latest on local hip hop releases that we may have otherwise missed! This is the latest from local rapper Sensai Doog. Sensai Doog came out with a full length album in December called Live 4rm The Zoo II. You can stream some of that on the Youtube player below. Find the full album streaming on Youtube right here. You can also find it online at CD Baby and Deezer.

Sensai Doog released an album prior to this one called Blood Eagle back in 2018. We are also adding this one to last year for our Springfield album archive page… which brings us to 500 releases total!?!?

Gargantuan: “The Great Onyx Sarcophagus”

a1015147283_10

Oh goodness gracious, on this very black metal Thursday snowy morning we bring you… a brand new six minute and forty second long track from solo death / black metal metal project Gargantuan. Check that out on the player below, or head over to the Gargantuan bandcamp page where you can download the track at your own price. From the bandcamp description:

This track is a continuation of the chronicles foretold in “Upon the Golgothan Plains”, in which the Forces Ov Hell – freshly battered and distraught over the crushing of Satan and the decimation of their ranks – reevaluate their purpose in life and tremble in fear under the deep silhouette of a new and ancient entity.

Gargantuan released a debut track “Wardogs Ov The Wild Hunt” last August. The next show the project has lined up is happening here at Dumb Records on April 3rd.
