Tonight at Dumb Records: Prevention, Gumm, Direct Measure, Bull Cult, Black Box

49358721193_415acc5017_o

Tonight is gonna be a stinger of a gig. This one is going to be a tour kickoff for the bands Prevention and their Tennessee-based friends, Gumm who have played here at least once before. Nice. Stream some of Gumm’s music on the player below. You already know what Prevention sounds like. Also on this show is “Direct Measure” who used to be called… Brute Force. They have played here a bunch too, but you wouldn’t know it looking at the flier because they changed their name. Also on this show is the mighty Bull Cult from Galesburg, playing here for the second time ever. Black Box from Springfield is going to be opening things up with their wild & crazy hardcore music. Enjoy!

All of that is tonight at 7:00 pm and admission is $7! Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Dumb Dumb’s this spring!

April 10th at CFP: Vagabonds, P.I.N.T., Layers, Austin Connelly, Izabel Miller

89105036_2741968869227986_8497566823468761088_o

There is a show happening at Springfield basement venue “CFP” coming up next month for us to tell you about. It’s happening on Friday, April 10th. We don’t see too many house shows now that Radon Lounge has joined forces with us, and thank goodness this is happening because we have a pretty full schedule ourselves around this time. This one features a touring act from Michican called Vagabonds. Stream some music from that project on the player below if you want a little taste. Speaking of tastes, Pretend I’m Not There is performing as well – the solo / ambient project of BJ Pearce. Right in the middle of this *layered* show is the experimental / spoken word duo “Layers.” We’ve got some more solo acts before that – including Austin Connelly (of the band Sorry Charlie and more). Opening things up is more spoken word or poetry from Izabel Miller. Looks like opening up actually is a project we don’t know too much about called “Vegan Sloppy Joes.”

All of that is happening at The CFP that night at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also check out our Springfield Shows page, which probably doesn’t really have anything listed right now.

Dates Announced For Downhome Music Festival 2020

89177037_3635841209823062_7247820645587746816_o

With the weather the way it is on this beautiful Sunday, we can’t help but getting excited about all the upcoming spring and summer festivals here downtown.

Downhome Music Festival just recently announced the dates for their 2020 festival to happen this year on Friday and Saturday, July 31st and August 1st. This will be the tenth year for the festival taking place downtown. There are no bands announced just yet, but there is a facebook event launched right here, and you can also check out downhomemusicfest.com to stay tuned for more announcements.

We didn’t include a post for it earlier, but we would also like to point out that Legacy of Giving Music Festival (the festival which evolved from SOHO) is happening this year as well earlier on in the summer on June 5th and 6th. Check out a facebook event for that one right here!

Those two are not the only music festivals happening in town this summer! Don’t forget the Levitt AMP Music Series is happening once again as well from May 28th through July 30th out on the Y-Block! Announcements for that should be coming in soon!

Record Store Day 2020 Official List Released Online

Screen Shot 2020-03-06 at 3.49.44 PM

These are exciting times for Record Store Day enthusiasts and for us as well – the official Record Store Day list for 2020 was just released to the public (and to us) yesterday! This includes a little over 400 exclusive titles of limited pressings coming out for Record Store Day 2020 on Saturday, April 18th this year.

You can find that full list on the Record Store Day website right here.

See anything that you are interested in picking up on that list? We can not put in any special orders or place any exclusive items on hold for Record Store Day, but we do have an active post going on our facebook page (pinned to the top) where we are collecting comments of what you would like us to order. Don’t have facebook? You can always email us at dumbrecs@gmail.com what you would like and we can try to make sure we can have it stocked for Record Store Day!

You can find a facebook event for Record Store Day at Dumb Records right here. Our store will be open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm (there will be people waiting in line). We are going to have live music lined up throughout the day, to be announced later on along with some more goodies!

April 14th at Dumb Records: Big Losers, The Complaint Line, Idle Oath, Marble Teeth

88347052_199413847788158_1923104776816427008_n

Let’s boogie. On Tuesday, April 14th we are having another gig. This one Pizza Ranch Jack set up and he accidentally misspelled every single band name on the flier. That’s right. Who do we have? Big Loser is at the top of the bill, they are from Austin Texas and have played here a number of times before. They played before at Black Sheep under a different name… something like “Free Kittens and Bread.” Now they are just “Big Loser” and we are “Dumb Records.” For local bands on this show we have The Complaint Line, actually playing for the first time inside of our new space! Also on the bill is Idle Oath (that one is definitely misspelled). We’re actually not sure who’s gonna end up opening this one up, but Marble Teeth from Decatur is playing as well.

This is a 7:00 pm, $7 show and don’t you forget it! Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at our space this spring.

Forest Saints: “Backyard Twilight Symphony”

a3808088160_10

Springfield recording project “Forest Saints” is BACK with a massive twenty-track album! The album is entitled Backyard Twilight Symphony and you can stream it on the player below. Also head on over to the Forest Saints bandcamp page where you can purchase the download of the album. The psychedelic/experimental recording project of Mark Schwartz (also of End Times Trio, Demons on Wheels, and Tin Ghost) now has a whopping ELEVEN albums released on bandcamp, with the previous release being the nearly two-hour long The Book of Descents & Ascensions released last year.

There are no live shows for Forest Saints lined up. We are adding this one to our Springfield album archive page, bringing us to eight releases that we have had listed so far this year.

March Issue Of Activator Magazine Available Now

89262155_582078632378683_4611142336716581380_n

Happy March, y’all! Did you know it was March? This is a post to let you all know that we now have the newest issue of Activator Magazine. This one features some people we know featured on the cover – that’s right, it’s the band Bottom Bracket, who have their new and debut album Don’t Care Enough To Stay coming out on Rat King Records later this month.

This issue also features an interview with Chicago-based indie group Ratboys, album reviews, live show calendars, more interviews with Mary Jo Curry, Sunshine Daydream, Hot Sauce Universe, Tony Young, and Vertrell Yates. There’s also Springfield and Peoria scene reports, photospreads, and more.

All of this is available for free right now inside of Dumb Records, and various other businesses around town. We also have a few back issues available as well.

March 20th at Dumb Records: Yellow Number Seven, The Florida Brothers Band, Velvet Bethany, Foot

larry320

Hear-ye, hear-ye! We have quite an interesting show to tell you about happening in just two in a half weeks on Friday, March 20th. An old Springfield band reunion, and two touring bands from different parts of the country both featuring members of great bands that have been here before. Let’s start from the top. We have… a local band that was active in the 1990’s called “Yellow Number Seven!” Are you intrigued? The band is back with some new recordings which you can find on the player directly below! Also on this show is… all the way up north in Wisconsin, the “Florida Brothers Band.” That’s right, they are from Wisconsin. AND features at least one member of the legendary Wabeno Rock Farm. If you know, then you know. If you don’t, you should still come out to the show. The OTHER touring band we have on this bill is called Velvet Bethany. They play garage punk and are from Buffalo, New York and feature members of the band Radiation Risks! Okay, okay. Opening things up we have a rare performance of the local stoner metal group FOOT. First time playing here at the new Dumb Records even??

That’s a lot going on on one show. All of that starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. And of course be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at our space this spring.
