Holy smokes there is a new album here for us to tell you about! This one is from Springfield musician (who maybe moved to Peoria and maybe moved back (?)) Dexter Anodyne. Dexter released her debut album Weeping Venus in 2019 and this one is Dexter Anodyne & The D. Sparrows which features a full band and probably goes in a much different direction than Weeping Venus! Check out the 12-track album streaming on the player embedded below. There is also a track featuring none other than Jeff Williams of NIL8! Head on over to Dexter’s bandcamp page to download the album at your own price and check out more of her music.
Getting this one added to our Springfield album archive page for 2021 lickety-split! We are sure we have some catching up to do on that! Oh hey wow this puts us at 600 releases we have kept track of total!
Are you ready for our next arcade contest?? Here it is… for the month of JUNE we are holding an arcade contest for the game BUBBLES. What is BUBBLES? From the Bubbles wikipedia page:
“Bubbles is an action game where the player controls a soap bubble from a top-down perspective. The object is to clean a kitchen sink by maneuvering over ants, crumbs, and grease spots to absorb them before they slide into the drain. As the bubble absorbs more objects, it grows in size, eventually acquiring first eyes and then a smiling mouth. At the same time, sponges and scrub brushes slowly move around the sink, cleaning it on their own in competition with the player. Touching either of these enemies costs a player one life unless the bubble is large enough to have a complete face. In this case, the enemy will be knocked away and the bubble will shrink. Sponges and brushes can be knocked into the drain for bonus points, eliminating them from play. Two other enemies in the sink are stationary razor blades and roaches that crawl out of the drain. Contact with a blade is always fatal, while the bubble can safely touch the roach only while carrying a broom, which will kill the roach with one hit. The broom can be acquired by running over a cleaning lady who appears in the sink from time to time.[1][2]“
In our arcade, BUBBLES is the third game on the Joust arcade cabinet. If you are looking to dive further into some BUBBLES tips and tricks before you venture out to our arcade, then check out the BUBBLES thread on our underground pinball forum. How fun!

We’ve already made a post telling you that Record Store Day is happening this year as two separate “drop dates” in June and July – but we are telling you again today, this time with a little flier for our store! The first of those is now less than one month away, on Saturday, June 12th. Then the second is Saturday, June 17th. We will be open 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on both of those days, and we do expect there to be lines!
The list of exclusive releases coming out for both of those days is much to long for us to list here, but you can head on over to Recordstoreday.com for that full list as well as a description of each item and which of the drop dates each exclusive release comes out on. As usual, we can not do any holds for any of these items, they are first come first serve. We will be listing any leftovers we have the following days after the initial release on our online stores. We DID order everything on the list for both of these drop dates – however, not everything we ordered is always guaranteed. We will say that this was the biggest RSD order we have ever submitted, so we are expecting a very big day all around!
We are here, we are ready to post on our site the first thing related to live music happening again in right here in this city. Today is the day. We still aren’t ready to have shows in our own space, but some nice outdoor events in a great big open field starting in June sounds pretty good to us. Especially if all of us are vaccinated.
Today, Levitt AMP Springfield (presented by PNC Bank) announced their big schedule for 2021 – including 10 outdoor concerts every Thursday night from June 3rd to August 5th. These concerts will be taking place out on the “Y-block” next to the Illinois governor’s mansion as they did in the 2019 season, just through the alleyway from our store. Most of these concerts feature two acts – the first one going on at 6:00 pm and the second going on at 7:00 pm and until 8:30 pm. Oh, by the way all of these shows are FREE. This series was made possible by Springfield applying for and getting a grand through the Levitt Foundation, as well as other local sponsors teaming together.
This is just a post to let you know that local band Bottom Bracket have been announced as playing “Fest 19” in Gainesville, Florida coming up this October! Congratulations to them! We’ve been lucky to have a good number of Springfield bands represented at FEST in the past including Hospital Job, Looming, and Attic Salt. Right now Bottom Bracket is the only local group announced for this year that we know of. FEST takes place on October 29th-31st in Florida.
