Tonight at Bread Stretchers: Marbin, Ben Delaurentis

0014062018_10

Tonight we’re not exactly sure what we are in for – it might be a big one over at the recently reunited legendary Springfield sub shop venue Bread Stretchers right next door to us. If any of you remember the jazz fushion group Marbin that came through Black Sheep last year and blew us all away, they will be returning tonight! Check out their Wikipedia page right here to learn more about the group, which features two brothers from Israel (pictured above) who are now based out of Chicago. This time they will be touring with a solo musician who is opening up the show and that is Ben Delaurentis from Virginia. Check out some of Marbin’s music on the player below.

This one starts at 7:00 pm. If you got a ticket in advance we will likely have your name on a list at the door, if not, it’s $15 admission. Find a facebook event here. Also check out our shows page for what else is coming up at Bread Stretchers which is located near 4th and Monroe or 4th and a halfth streets downtown or something like that.

Demons on Wheels: “The Well Worn Tale”

a1286240479_10.jpg

Here’s your dose of new Springfield music for the day! Today we are brining you a brand new album by local garage punk recording project “Demons on Wheels“. If you are unfamiliar, Demons on Wheels is the recording project of Mark Schwartz also of End Times Trio, Forest Saints, and Tin Ghost. Out of all of those projects as far as we know End Times Trio is the only one that performs live. Just recently Mark dropped his third album under the name Demons on Wheels, entitled The Well Worn Tale. You can check out all sixteen tracks of that streaming on the player below, or also head over to the Demons on Wheels bandcamp page to pay to download the album right here.

We’ve added this release to our Springfield album archive page where we are trying to stay up to date on everything that has been coming out so far this year! Check it out!

This Saturday (April 27th): Dumb Records $1 Sidewalk Sale

\.jpg

Downtown Springfield is having a big ol’ spring sidewalk sale throughout shops downtown this Saturday so we figured we’d use this opportunity at Dumb Records to do some spring cleaning! That’s right – at 9:00 am this Saturday we are opening up a little early and putting tables or shelves or whatever we can wrangle up out onto the sidewalk for a special sale – everything outside will be one dollar. We have a lot of records in our basement that haven’t seen the light of day since our old store, so this is a good idea (we know, sunlight and records are not a good thing, we know). If it’s raining out on Saturday we’ll do the same thing but we’ll just have the tables set up next door to us inside Bread Stretchers. All of that sound good?

We’ll be doing our sale from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm (will be open until regular time of 8:00 pm). Check out what other downtown businesses are participating along with a map of all of them right here.

Timothy Donavan Russell: “Dark Light”

a2014042136_10.jpg

We sure do have a hard time keeping up with local sound artist Timothy Donavan Russell and all of the new music he is constantly putting out. Timothy is already on his fifth release this year – this one being called Dark Light. This one is just three tracks but nears a total of one hour in time – the first being a forty one minute long ambient piece. Check it out streaming on the player below, or head over to Timothy’s bandcamp page where you can purchase the downloadable mp3’s.

We’ve been trying to keep up with Timothy’s releases and everything else that has come out so far this year on our Springfield album archive page. Tim is also a member of the new Pharmacy Gallery which has also recently re-located downtown and has their official ribbon cutting ceremony set to a few weeks from now on Saturday, May 4th.

It’s Saturday, what’s going on in town tonight? Well, we don’t have anything lined up at Bread Stretchers tonight, but there is this really cool show happening at The Radon Lounge that you should check out if you don’t have anything else going on! This is actually The Radon’s last show for the season! They’ll be back in the fall after this. For this show they’ve got some big NPR featured guy, David Dondero at the top of the bill. Where’s this guy from, Chicago? Stream some of his music on the player below. Radon has got a solid group of local acts this time around as well. This includes Nectar from Champaign and very familiar to Springfield – who just released their album “Knocking at the Door” on LP which we have copies of at Dumb. Bottom Bracket are playing, great. Night Night Boy are playing as well – the second show for the new Springfield supergroup lineup featuring members of Park, Looming, and Soap Scum!

This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show here. We told Jeff that we’d be doing something as Dumb Records, so we’ll have a couple of crates of choice pick records for sale. Check out our Springfield shows page for other non-Bread Stretchers shows.
