Hey all! The weekend is here and we do have shows lined up at Black Sheep tonight and tomorrow! It’s going to be a good weekend, we can feel it! Tonight we have hardcore band Time & Pressure coming from St. Louis to play for us. Also we have Prowess – they are not listed on the flier but got added at the last minute just for the heck of it. The big touring band on this bill is the band “Deadbeat” from Lincoln, Nebraska. You can stream their music on the player below. Before them we have Dumb Fest all-star favorites from Bloomington/Chicago – Reduced To Instinct (they have played three different Dumb Fests(?)). Opening things up is brand new Springfield hardcore band Final Order.

This starts at 7:00 pm tonight and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in these next coming months.

New Band Pages: Rather Dashing

It’s Monday night, and it’s probably been a minute since we’ve added any new band pages to our website – so here is our most recent addition. We have a new page for the new alternative / blues / indie / genre-fusing band Rather Dashing. Check out their new page on the Black Sheep site right here. There you can find links to all of the band’s websites and stream their seven-track release which came out earlier this year. Rather Dashing have not played a show at Black Sheep yet – they did perform at Downhome Music Festival at the end of last month.

Check out any of our 40+ active band pages on our site right here. Do you play in an active Springfield band or are you a solo musician and have yet to set up a page on our site? We would love to hear from you! Reach out to us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set something up.

It’s about time for us to get back on track telling you all about all of the hot new Springfield music that has been coming out. This song was released just yesterday right before Black Sheep Fest kicked off. It is Jacksonville-based punk group No Cash Value‘s new hit single – “Government Stole My Skateboard.” The song was recorded with a few others up in Southtown Sound, to all be released at some point soon.

Stream “Government Stole My Skateboard” on the player below. Also head over to the band’s bandcamp page to download the song for free. No Cash Value don’t have any shows lined up at Black Sheep currently, but be on the lookout for more soon!

We want to thank all of you who came out to Black Sheep Fest at any point yesterday! The vibes were all around great, a lot of fun and smiles were shared, the music was great, and we were also able to raise more funds for our campaign to fix our heating and cooling system inside the venue. Expect photos and videos of the fest to come soon.

Now that Black Sheep Fest is over, it’s time to get back into the swing of things and gear up for a busy fall! The next show happening at Black Sheep is actually in two days – on Tuesday, August 14th. We have touring musician Kevin Bloom of the indie/psych band The Dead Shakers from Vermont coming through. Stream some of The Dead Shakers music on the player below. Opening this show up will be Robot Army from Taylorville, and it looks like that’s it.

This will start at Black Sheep at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Yes, there is also a show going on at CFP that same night. Also check out our upcoming shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the coming months.

We Are Collecting Money For Our Broken Heating/Cooling Unit Tomorrow at Black Sheep Fest.

We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but a few of you may have noticed it’s been a little hot inside Black Sheep this summer. That’s not just because of climate change, no. That is because our heating/cooling unit has been broken! What a surprise! We have been faced with a $2,500 repair on this unit, which is a bit much for us to wrap our heads around an easy fix or way to raise funds, when we struggle to meet bills on a month to month basis for our all-volunteer space as it is.

With the summer coming to a close and winter coming sooner than later, we are facing the reality of having to raise this money somehow, and will be starting to collect donations at Black Sheep Fest tomorrow. The jar will continue to be out for shows (we also always have a donation jar out at all Black Sheep shows). For those of you can’t make it to the fest or would rather donate online, there is a facebook campaign going right here.

Black Sheep Fest kicks off tomorrow at 3:00 pm. Check out a facebook event right here.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Napalm Death Is Dead (Japan), Unexamine, Penis Geyser, Uncle Sam’s Mutagenic Children, Gutterpriest

GIG

Tonight! It’s a Thursday night and this is what we have going on. We have big noise core act “Napalm Death is Dead” coming all the way from Tokyo, Japan! Wow! They will be coming along with Unexamine – another noise act from California. Check out some pure Unexamined noise on the player below. Then we have an act from Ohio with a NOT very family appropriate name *warning* and that is “Penis Geyser” (that is right, we did not edit) (sorry). This show will also be the passing of one local act and the welcoming in of a brand new one. The act playing it’s final show is Gutterpriest – which has been active playing noise in Springfield for a few years now. The first ever show is of a new band called “Uncle Sam’s Mutagenic Children”!

This show starts next Thursday at 7:00 pm, admission is $5 or whatever you can do to support the touring acts. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page to take a look at what else is coming up in the next few months.

Today outside of Black Sheep: F///\\\M, Imaginary Colours, Animals With Human Names, Nighthawk

unnamed-2

We are taking part in something a little bit different than our usual show today! Bourbon Street Rhythm & Ribs are setting up Southtown Blues Festival where a good portion of 11th and Brown Streets have been blocked off for a weekend full of music, food and games. Black Sheep is lucky to be working with Bourbon Street this year in setting up our own showcase happening today at 1:30 pm.

Who’s playing? Well, we have the return of Chuck Mountain (or F///\\\M) for short, (you might also know him as Big Baby, B-Dawg, Brandad, etc). We also have a newer Springfield project called Imaginary Colours which performed at our last open mic this past weekend. Stream some of Imaginary Colour’s music on the player below. Up before that is the hip hop project of Jim Whitehead called Animals With Human Names. There will plenty of dancing to be done for that. And don’t forget the last special act we have lined up for this – Nighthawk himself! That’s right.

Our showcase starts at 1:30 pm and the festival goes on all the rest of today and tomorrow. Check out more info on the whole festival right here. And find an event for our showcase right here. By the way, the entire festival is FREE for the whole family. Also check out our upcoming shows page for a look at what else we have coming up at Black Sheep for the remainder of the summer.
