All Dumb Records Shows Cancelled For The Rest Of March

IMG_2494

Breaking news! We probably shouldn’t even have to explain anything or what’s going on to you at this point. Along with Governor Pritzker ordering bars and restaurants to close doors now through March 30th, we are also following suit and cancelling all shows we had lined up now until the end of the month. As the situation with COVID-19 rapidly changing every day, we will be continuing to reassess our store being open and shows lined up in April and beyond on a day-to-day basis. We’ll list out shows being cancelled here below so we can cry about what we are missing together:

March 20th with Yellow Number 7, Florida Brothers, Velvet Bethany, Foot
March 21st with Pledge Drive, Gnarly Beth, Dexter, Big Tobacco, Telephone Junkies
March 28th (Bottom Bracket release), Looming, Nectar, Marble Teeth, Belle
March 29th with Pig City, Livid, Capitol Offense + more.

There are a number of shows lined up in early April, and we will have to re-assess those shows in the next few weeks and inform you all of any more cancellations.

As we already announced, Record Store Day has been postponed to Saturday June 20th, 2020. Some of these other cancelled shows, such as the Bottom Bracket release show will also likely happen at a later date.

This is hard for us to do as a local business needing to pay rent and bills, but plenty of other businesses, bands, and people are negatively impacted in similar ways and this is something bigger than us. Safety is most important right now, and so is supporting each other through other means and washing our hands.

Our store is remaining open during normal hours of 10:00 am to 8:00 pm for now. We’ll be here catching up on online orders and going through records still. However, these next few days we might be pushing buying records or CDs through us through our Discogs page online – and a possible re-launch of our online merch store coming soon.

Dumb Records Six Years Old Today (One Year Downtown)

6yearsoldnow.jpg

Wow, it looks like our store has had an anniversary of sorts sneak up on us, and we don’t have any special event planned to celebrate! Today (January 10th), marks exactly one full year since our soft opening here at our downtown location. It also marks exactly six full years since our original original soft open at our original location. Our original location grand opening was held the following day on Saturday January 11th, 2014 and the downtown grand opening and ribbon cutting was not until Saturday March 9th, 2019. We’ll go ahead and count today as our birthday though.

We are not doing anything to celebrate. No shows, no sales, no nothing. Our store is just open today from 10:00 am – 8:00 pm as usual. You can check out our history page on our site to learn more about our very rich and very deep history. Oh, and this is what our store looked like exactly one year ago from today:

and this is what our store looked like exactly six years ago:

Happy Birthday Dumb Records

Webp.net-gifmaker (2).gif

Looks like we have a surprise in store for you all today! On this day exactly five years ago (January 10th, 2014), it was the first day open at our original location on South Grand- the grand opening celebration was the very day after that on the 11th. The past few years we have celebrated our store’s birthday with “free record day” and have handed out free records. Today we want to do something to commemorate our store’s five year anniversary – so we are holding a *very* soft open in the store from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm. We will continue to hold just the one hour of the store being open for the next week for those of you wanting to come by and take a peek at the new space. We will also of course have a limited selection of vinyl LPs, CDs, and a new line of Dumb Records shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets for sale. For those of you who do not know, our new location is at 418 E Monroe St.

IMG_3456.jpg

P.S. – we will soon be updating our Black Sheep history page to tell an accurate timeline and series of events leading up to our move to our new downtown home.

P.S.S. – did you know that we have not missed a single day with Dumb Records’s Record Of The Night™ so far this year?!? It’s been a great way of showing some sort of progress on things we are doing with the new space.

P.S.S.S. – if you are not able to make it in the one hour the store is open, we are still selling records and CDs online through discogs.com! Check out our discogs page right here. We will have an online store setup for Dumb Records merchandise set up very soon as well.

An Update: January 2nd, 2019

smallerupdate.jpg

Hello! It’s been a minute since we’ve really used our website to post about anything that has been going on with our big move downtown. Now that we’ve got a new domain (dumbrecs.com) and are in a new year, we feel it is finally time to catch up a little bit!

Yes, we are completely moved out of the old locations of Dumb Records and Black Sheep in Southtown. The final shows this past month were all incredible. Thank you all who came out for any of those or who have supported us in any way. Money that was raised at those shows is going towards startup costs and building materials for the new space.

When will we be open? We only just started working in the new space a couple of days ago, and it will take time to get things exactly how we want them to be setup for our record store and show space. We would like to say that we will be open in some form or another by the end of this month, even if it is just a soft opening for the record store portion. It is likely that the store portion will be open in some form before we are able to have shows. We are still not putting anything on the calendar for shows.

If you are wanting to help, we have a private facebook group going covering discussion on what projects we are currently tackling in the new space. That is our best means of communicating to a group that wants to help right now. Work is being done on the space in some form or another every day right now. Our old group is just an all around group for “Springfield IL Area Shows” which we mean to cover shows going on in town elsewhere such as The Radon, Bar None, and CFP. All of those spots are currently hosting shows while we work on our new space.

We have just now re-launched our Discogs online store! This means that even though our store is closed right now, if you really want to you can order from us online! There might be a limited amount of items listed there now, but we are building it up every day. Some of you may have also noticed we printed new shirts with a re-vamped logo – there will be a separate online store launched for that and other merch very soon! Be on the lookout for that!

That’s it for now!
