Record Store Day Happening Saturday April 18th, 2020

recordstoredayfornow

This is an official announcement to let you all know that Record Store Day 2020 is happening exactly two months from today on Saturday, April 18th. Record Store Day is an annual world-wide event which started in 2008, making this the 13th one. Usually every year it is the biggest day for us, and the same probably true for hundreds of other record stores around the globe.

No, there are no exclusive releases being announced for Record Store Day just yet, and we have not put any orders in. We do plan on making announcements on our pages as soon as those releases are known and also once we can announce what we have planned for the day. We can say that we are likely to have WYMG broadcasting live inside of our space when we open again, likely live music throughout the day, and maybe some extra deals on top of all of that. Oh, and free coffee provided by Foamed Up!

Stay tuned!

The State Journal-Register: “City To Replace Outdated Meters”

Screen Shot 2020-02-16 at 6.04.03 PM

We are downtown now (and have been a year), so we guess this is news to us. Yesterday’s front paper headlines in the State Journal-Register read “City To Replace Outdated Meters,” meaning our parking meters, including the ones directly outside of our store, will soon be replaced. The meters themselves are around 25 years old, which means they are surpassing their typical life expectancy. What exactly they are going to be replaced with and when is not yet clear. The city will be holding an open house meeting this Thursday (February 20th) open to the public to discuss the future of the meters, the possibility of two-way streets replacing one-way streets downtown, and other upgrades. From the article:

A solution is coming — Mayor Jim Langfelder has set aside about $170,000 in his proposed budget for new meters, which will be among the topics discussed at an open house the city is hosting on Thursday. What exactly that solution looks like is less clear.

But what is clear is that fixing metered parking is just one piece to the larger downtown parking puzzle. While traffic studies routinely show an excess of spaces available on-street, in parking lots and in parking ramps, downtown business owners say there is still a disconnect between that reality and the perception that downtown parking is difficult.

You can check out the full article online right here. We would also like to point out that parking meters are enforced outside of our store from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on week days – any time outside of that (and all day on weekends) parking is free.

New Band Pages: Gargantuan

Screen Shot 2020-02-13 at 8.26.08 AM

It has been a minute since we have added any featured band pages to our site! This week we are proud to bring you… from the deepest darkest depths of the Springfield underground caverns… a new page for the new metal project, “Gargantuan.” Gargantuan has been playing shows since some point last year when a song mysteriously appeared on the internet. You can now stream a brand new Gargantuan track and read more about the mysterious new project on the new band page right here. Gargantuan’s next show is at Dumb Records on April 3rd.

You can check out any of the 30 or so current band pages we have on our site right here. Do you perform in a local band or are a local solo musician here in Springfield that has not gotten a page set up with us? Email us at dumbrecs@gmail.com and we will work with you to get one set up!

JunioR Pasáre: “Shooter”

shooter

Today we bring you a new hit single which came out for Valentine’s Day a couple of days ago by local hip hop artist JunioR Pasáre. You can check out the single, called “Shoot” on Apple Music online right here… we’ve also tried embedding it below. JunioR, who is part of the Zippir Collective, released a full length album We Gone Win last year, and also a collab release with Ty Witty called The Half Full EP last year.
