It’s time to sneak another February show announcement in to one of the few remaining weekend dates we have open this month- here is a show happening on Friday, February 19th. We have the local band Set Piece playing this show, who describe themselves as “heavy indie rock.” You might be able to stream some of their music on the player below. In addition to Set Piece we also have a local jam group called Governor Street playing the show. Then the third band on the bill Black Ops Agency, which is a long running rock band featuring members of TANG.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. We might have heard a rumor about their being food at the show!? We’ll see! You can check out a facebook event for this one right here. Black Sheep Roundtable Meeting Tonight

tumblr_nztcaguQVz1so0jn5o1_1280

It’s a Saturday night, and there aren’t any shows happening at Black Sheep but instead we are hosting our next roundtable meeting! You got any suggestions on how we can improve our space? You want to tell us why you quit coming to shows? We want to hear from you! We aren’t necessarily looking for suggestions directed at Black Sheep co-owners on what to do better, but more-so a discussion among all show goers and volunteers on how we can all improve our space and music community.

Everyone and anyone is welcome to come! The meeting tonight will be at 7:00 pm inside of Black Sheep. We are expecting it to go on until 9:00 pm. If all goes well we are planning on continuing our roundtable meetings on a quarterly basis (four meetings a year). We also have a “get involved” zine in the works that will be available to everyone and will almost work as a how-to in getting involved with the Black Sheep community and Springfield music scene. Check out a facebook event for the meeting tonight right here!

Clare Frachey, Stephen Houldsworth Featured on WUIS

stephenclare.jpg

A couple of notable figures in the Springfield/St. Louis music scenes very much relating to Black Sheep were recently featured on the radio in interviews put together by Rachel Otwell and WUIS. Those were Stephen Houldsworth and Clare Frachey (pictured above). The two were featured on WUIS for separate interviews.

Rachel talked to Stephen Houldsworth during his presentation at Black Sheep last week and also got some talking bits recorded directly from the presentation. The interview brushes up on Stephen’s involvement as a activist and documentarian of the St. Louis protest and punk scenes, as well as his background as a gay man living in Boston during the AIDS outbreak in the 1980’s. You can check out the WUIS segment streaming online right here.

Clare Frachey was also featured on WUIS as guest host of the weekly segment “The Scene” hosted by Rachel Otwell and Scott Faingold. Clare touches on her involvement with The Black Sheep, setting up monthly art shows at Cafe Brio, and also current projects SAP and Shark Week. You can also check out that segment online right here.

Looming Featured on “The Trundle Sessions”

Springfield rock group Looming were out on the road at the beginning of this year. While they were out to the west coast and back they recorded a “Trundle Session” put together by Diet Pop Records based out of Arizona. The session is of the band performing an acoustic version of their title-track song “Nailbiter.” It features Brandon Carnes on the keyboards instead of drums.

Check out more of The Trundle Sessions right here on youtube. Looming just announced plans to play a SXSW showcase later on in March, but no plans right now for any Springfield or Black Sheep shows in the future.

We got something in store tonight at Black Sheep, it’s the only show we have going on this weekend too! Have you ever been to a hip hop show at Black Sheep? Well now might be the time to check one out! This one is the second round of “TheNewClass” being put on by Uncanny and 217 Hip Hop. It will mostly feature new up and coming hip hop artists from the area who are under the age of 21. Usually shows put on by 217 Hip Hop also end in rap battles, which are intense and an experience for all.

The show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this winter/spring.
