10525775_984333921577475_2132920133597697053_n

Looks like annual downtown music and pride festival, Springfield Pridefest has some big things up their sleeves this year as they just announced their lineup for the next Pridefest happening on Saturday, May 21st. Looks like we had the same date penciled in for our cover show, but now we are going to go ahead and move that up a week earlier to May 14th! The big headlining band for Pridefest this year is the national touring act Pansy Division from California, which has been active since 1991. You can stream some of their music on the player below. In addition to Pansy Division, there are plenty more acts playing- a few of them familiar to the Black Sheep stage. Let’s take a look:

Pansy Division
Thornhill
“Black Queen” A Tribute to Queen
Venus Envy (Kerri Grant and Michael Sullivan)
Rocky Horror Show Revue
The Blue Ribbon Revival
Our Lady
SAP

It may be a ways off, but music at the fest will start at 1:00 pm. As far as we can tell, the fest is also free to the public and is all ages. You can find a facebook event for this right here. It needs to be updated- but you can check out our Springfield shows page where we try to keep a list of shows happening in town outside of Black Sheep!

You think there not enough genres of music being represented at Black Sheep show? Have you ever been to a hip hop show at Black Sheep? Well now might be the time to check one out, because there is one happening this upcoming Friday, February 5th! This one is the second round of “TheNewClass” being put on by Uncanny and 217 Hip Hop. It will mostly feature new up and coming hip hop artists from the area who are under the age of 21. Usually shows put on by 217 Hip Hop also end in rap battles, which are intense and an experience for all. If you are interested in participating in the show you can contact Uncanny.

The show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this winter/spring.

Tonight at Black Sheep: “Protests and Punk Shows” -Presentation by Stephen Houldsworth

1293026_10207852362014700_1284918793789069481_o

It’s Friday night and tonight is going to be a little bit different from a regular show here at Black Sheep! We will be hosting a presentation/performance by Stephen Houldsworth- St. Louis based photographer, and activist as well as many other things. You may recognize Stephen as one of the photographers taking photos at Dumb Fest 3-D this past summer. Here is a quick description of what will be happening, taken from a similar event held earlier this month in St. Louis:

Love him or hate him, you have to admit Stephen Houldsworth has opinions and is not afraid to share them. In this one-man show, “Protest & Punk shows, while making other plans,” Houldsworth will share stories and spoken-word pieces, as well as answer audience questions, about his life as an activist, music fan, artist, academic, and cultural critic. Whether in the streets of Ferguson. the DIY basements of South city, or the boardrooms of the regions most venerable institutions, Houldsworth brings his unique perspective to all his experiences – and, for one night only, you can take a journey inside his thoughts and feelings.

We encourage anyone and everyone to come out to this! Doors for this will open at 7:00 pm and the presentation will kick off at 7:30 pm. There will also be two bands playing later on in the night at 9:00 pm- one being Sunwyrm from St. Louis, the other being a surprise Springfield band. Admission will be $5, and any additional donations will go towards activist causes. Find a facebook event for this right here. Check out our shows page for a look at what else is planned for this spring.

We have a show lineup up at Black Sheep on Friday, March 25th that will be sure to shake up the house. This one will be the final show for Decatur-based hardcore band Meth Dealer, who have been playing shows in the area for the past three years including a couple here at Black Sheep. Stream some of Meth Dealer’s music below and get ready for their last hurrah, it is sure to be a big one. Also playing this show is Perfect People, the hardcore band from St. Louis. Then coming all the way from South Dakota are the band Souls, who are also no strangers to Black Sheep. They will be coming with a band called Seeing Red also from the same area. Just in case there wasn’t enough heavy music on this show for you, we have the band Shame coming from Oklahoma City, OK playing some hardcore/metalcore. And THEN also on the lineup is the band Barbarian coming from El Paso, Texas. We’ve got bands coming from all over the country for this one show, dang! We do have local support from WARRS who will be likely opening up the show and who we have not seen at Black Sheep in a minute!

This show will start at 5:00 pm and admission for this mega-show is $7. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this spring.
