Tonight we can’t believe how super-solid of a pop punk show is going on at Black Sheep. We are talking about the good kind of pop punk here, and then a touch of other stuff to make for an all around good show. We have a couple of bands who haven’t played here in a minute. Tonight Horrible Things will be coming as part of their summer tour- featuring Tim Reynolds originally from Springfield, moved to Champaign, then moved to Chicago. [Now the band is based out of Chicago]. Stream their newest LP on the player below. We also have Springfield pop punk greats, Hospital Job who have also not played here in a minute. Then we have everyone’s favorite grunge punk band SAP taking the stage. And looks like up first we have the second ever show for a new Springfield band called Attic Salt that we are excited about.

The show tonight starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

Today we have a new page for the two-piece electric ukulele project, Sweet Bippy. On the page you can stream some of their tunes, read up on the band, and find other links to their music and contact info. Check that out right here. Sweet Bippy will be playing next at Black Sheep on Wednesday, July 13th along with Panzys and Lower Automation.

Check out any of our 60+ current band pages on our site right here. Do you play in a local Springfield band or are a solo musician that does not have a page set up with us yet? We would love to hear from you! Send an email to blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set one up.

Ankle Grease is from New York and you can stream some of their songs on the player below. Very cool. Also folk punk and on this show is C Is For Cadaver who is from the area. Then possibly before then we do have a very rare acoustic performance happening from Jeff Williams of the mighty, and the legendary punk band NIL8 that you all know and love. Make sure to catch that. Opening up the show looks like we have another very rare performance by the spoken word/musical project Honey//Suck.

Full Lineup for Black Sheep Battle of the Bands July 9th

Battletime.jpg

The Black Sheep Battle of the Bands has been coming together quite nicely, and we are finally ready to announce the final lineup for the battle which is happening in just less than two weeks on Saturday, July 9th. We have a whopping total of seven bands on the bill now, all of which are younger college, high school-aged, or even younger (including the five-year-old fronted punk band “Statues of the Dead”. Some of these bands already have songs recorded but we won’t include links to any right now because we don’t want this to be biased!! Here is the lineup:

SPOOKY POO
BRING ON THE FALL
SKUNKWORKS
STEMS
KAIL
GADGET
STATUES OF THE DEAD

As every year we have done this, there will be two main winners. One will get the crowd’s vote award, with everyone in the crowd voting for their favorite act. That band will receive a spot on Black Sheep Fest on August 6th. Then there will also be a panel of judges, who will collectively chose another winner to receive a demo recorded for free by one of our recording engineers at Black Sheep. There also might be a third prize from HISO Music, who is now also sponsoring the event!

The Black Sheep Battle of the Bands will start at 6:00 pm and admission for those who are not playing is $5. You can find a facebook event right here. Also check out our shows page to look at what other events are being held at our space this summer.

Shark Week: “Demonstration”

skarhwekeekepowpow.jpg

Oh snap, the sharks are in town! Shark Week that is, they are the new all-girl and all-killer rock band that are currently taking over the waves in the ocean that is the Springfield underground music scene. Was that a good description? Who knows! Today we have the four-song demo that Shark Week recorded with Mario Cannamela a month or so ago. Check that out streaming below, or head over to the Ooey Gooey bandcamp page where you can download the demo at your own price. The demo is also available on physical cassette over at Dumb Records.

Shark Week’s next local show lined up is actually Black Sheep Fest, happening in little over a month on August 6th this year.

Would you look at just how brutal that flier up there looks. That’s right, we have this show happening at Black Sheep this upcoming Thursday, June 30th. We are not sure why this flier says “18+” by the way, all of Black Sheep’s shows are all ages (duh!)! For this show we have the band Tyrant (no, not The Tyrants) playing and coming from Lansing, Michigan. They are very metal. Also on this show is the Decatur-based band Becoming The Adversary who actually just played at Black Sheep a couple of weekends ago! You can actually stream one of their songs on the player below. One more band on this bill, and that is Through Burning Eyes and with a name like that, you know it’s got to be metal as heck.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. This show is all ages (duh)! Also check out our shows page for a good look at what other shows are coming up here at Black Sheep in the near future.
