Here we are – tonight begins our string of final final Black Sheep shows before we move and open up a new space downtown in 2019. This one is going to be a heavy hardcore show – one of your very very last chances to dance in our home of 13+ years. This show features Milwaukee classic hardcore group Falter, who have performed at our space off and on for some years now. Stream some Falter on the player below. We also have Capitol Offense from Decatur taking our stage one last time. Another Wisconsin band coming through is LIVID – as seen on this year’s Dumb Fest in June. Brute Force from the St. Louis will be joining us as well, and opening things up is Springfield hardcore band Final Order.

All of this starts at 7:00 pm on 12/7. Admission is $7-10, take your pick. Find a facebook event for this one right here. And check out our shows page for a look at what is lined up at Black Sheep while we are still here.

We are moving downtown.

An announcement on behalf of Black Sheep and Dumb Records:

Good morning and happy Thanksgiving. There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes at Black Sheep / Dumb Records for the past number of months and we’ve been gearing up for a huge announcement for quite some time. We are excited (and admittedly nervous) to share that after the year 2018 we will be starting a new chapter in our endeavors providing Springfield with an all ages show space and independent record store. At the end of this year Black Sheep and Dumb Records will be packing up everything at our South Grand & 11th Street home for 13+ years and moving downtown.

There has been a lot that has led us to decide over the past year or so that this is the right move for us, and we truly view this as a step in the right direction for us. We will share more info on a new location later on. For now we want everyone to know that the final shows in the 1320 South 11th Street of Black Sheep (since 2005) will be happening from now up until the end of the month of December. Also any bands that want to play at our current space one last time – contact us and we will do our best to get you on one last time. We will be keeping the shows calendar on our site updated. Dumb Records will remain open with our regular operating hours up until Sunday, December 16th being the store’s last day in operation at the current location and there will be sales in the store from now until close.

There may be some changes with us opening a new space downtown but our goals of providing Springfield with a space where all different people and genres can come together and perform music / art will very much be the same. We will need as much help and support with this move as we can get. We would also love to see each and every one of you who have supported us over the years at these final shows.

Today is about being thankful. We are extremely grateful and thankful for the community in Springfield that has supported us in the past and continues to do so. We would also like to thank our landlord George Sinclair for everything he’s done. Saying goodbye to a space where thousands of shows have been held is not easy. However, it is important to realize it’s not about the space or the building we are in – Black Sheep isn’t just a building – it’s about the community and the dedicated volunteers that have kept us going for the past 13+ years and will continue to keep us going into the future.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Alchemist Review (UIS) Presents Open Mic Night

What’s this? There’s something a little bit different going on at Black Sheep tonight! It’s an open mic night – but this one is not in fact your typical open mic night that we usually hold at Black Sheep or Dumb – this one is being organized by UIS group The Alchemist Review. We welcome any UIS or LLCC groups organizing events in our space! How great! This open mic is being formatted a little bit differently – time slots are only five minutes and it looks like they are going rapid fire from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm and the group welcomes poets, song writers, short skits, and more. We have a feeling time slots might even all be filled up, but you can email alchemistreview@gmail.com to inquire more.

This starts at Black Sheep tonight at 7:00 pm. We think it’s free? Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up in the near future.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Livin’ Thing, Knife Rider, Thwompsax, Evan Mitchell

finemario

Continuing this crazy streak of shows with this punk show happening tonight! It’s an all around good show with two great out of town acts. At the top of the bill is Lexington Kentucky’s very own Knife Rider. We have yet another set by Springfield rock and roll band Livin’ Thing. The other touring act on the bill is a solo project called “Thwompsax” from all the way in California put together by a member of former Dumb Fest bands Pookie & The Poodlez and Nobunny. Stream that Thwompsax EP on the player below. Opening things up is Evan Mitchell– the one man band, who is celebrating ten full years of performing as a one man band.

This show starts at 7:00 pm and costs $7. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else we’ve got coming up at Black Sheep.

Videos: Graveswitcher & MAC at Black Sheep Fest 2018

Look-ee here, today we are bringing you a couple of videos of songs we took from Black Sheep Fest 2018, which happened right around one month ago on August 11th. These two videos are snippets of sets of Graveswitcher and MAC and you can find them embedded below. The MAC song is “Authority” which the band released the official music video and recording for the song last week. Then the Graveswitcher video is of them performing their song “The Toob” and is very movement-heavy, just how some of you like it. (Slam-Cam 2018).

Check out our vids/pics page on our site for a long list of other videos taken over the years at Black Sheep. Also Gordon Chang is an incredible man and took videos of the full sets of nearly every Black Sheep Fest performance, which you can find on his channel right here.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Napalm Death Is Dead (Japan), Unexamine, Penis Geyser, Uncle Sam’s Mutagenic Children, Gutterpriest

GIG

Tonight! It’s a Thursday night and this is what we have going on. We have big noise core act “Napalm Death is Dead” coming all the way from Tokyo, Japan! Wow! They will be coming along with Unexamine – another noise act from California. Check out some pure Unexamined noise on the player below. Then we have an act from Ohio with a NOT very family appropriate name *warning* and that is “Penis Geyser” (that is right, we did not edit) (sorry). This show will also be the passing of one local act and the welcoming in of a brand new one. The act playing it’s final show is Gutterpriest – which has been active playing noise in Springfield for a few years now. The first ever show is of a new band called “Uncle Sam’s Mutagenic Children”!

This show starts next Thursday at 7:00 pm, admission is $5 or whatever you can do to support the touring acts. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page to take a look at what else is coming up in the next few months.

Today we are bringing you all of those sweet sweet photos from Dumb Fest #6 this past weekend. All of the photos in this batch were taken by Veronica Mullen (who also performed in two bands this past weekend – Ghoul Jr. and Power of Dusk). Veronica shot photos of most of day 2 of the fest (Saturday) at Black Sheep and Skank Skates, also the aftershow at Ms. D’s Kitchen, and at The Old State Capitol the next day.

Find all of Veronica’s photos from Dumb Fest 6 right here on facebook or right here on flickr.

We also know that new Springfield underground music magazine – Activator took a good amount of photos as well, which you can surely find more of in the upcoming second issue of their magazine.

Check out our vids/pics page for a list of more photo albums from past festivals taken over the years at Black Sheep including all of the Dumb Fests.
