It’s Tuesday and while it’s a crazy world we are living in right now, we have still been adding more and more records and CDs to our inventory. We’re still here today to bring you a list of some of what’s new. Our store is *pretty much closed* (we are still here getting work done and mailing orders out), we are expecting all non-essential businesses to be ordered to close any day now. So much of these things listed out can be for sale online on our Discogs page. Dumb Records Online Merch Store Re-Launched!

Great news everyone! We are not sure how much of a shirt-buying mood everyone is in after these crazy past few days, but we are preparing to have to close up our store (it has been loosely open today), and enter in online-mode in these new modern times.

We have now launched our storenvy page, featuring a new run of green Dumb Records t-shirts, long-sleeves, and crew neck sweatshirts. Check that out right here. Placing an order and paying online is easy. For those of you in Springfield, we might just deliver them to your mailbox.

Don’t forget we have an online Discogs store as well, where we sell new and used records and CDs and update daily.

Order something from us and we just might throw in a special note or drawing!

CDC Recommending Cancelling Gatherings of 50 or More The Next 8 Weeks, More Show Cancellations Likely

Trying our best to stop the spread of the coronavirus certainly is serious business, and unfortunately we for-see some more serious implications coming our way as an all ages music venue. Yesterday we announced that we were pulling the plug on shows from now through the end of March after Governor J.B. Pritzker ordered the closure of all bars and restaurants in that timeframe. After that and also yesterday, the Center for Disease Control issued a new guidance recommending no public gatherings of 50 or more people be held between now and the next eight weeks.

This just about means no shows for us during that time frame as well – things are changing very rapidly on a day-to-day basis with the coronavirus and the state’s response to preventing it. We are not officially cancelling all of the shows we had lined up through 8 weeks (May 10th), but the chances of them happening are looking unlikely. There were previously a total of fifteen shows we had scheduled (some of which were not announced yet) in that time period.

A number of downtown shops are beginning to close as well, we are *loosely* open today and these next few days our normal hours of 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, but everything is changing so rapidly that we are embracing for having to close store. We are continuing to sell music online through Discogs, and will likely be launching a separate store for shirts and other merchandise very soon.

All Dumb Records Shows Cancelled For The Rest Of March

Breaking news! We probably shouldn’t even have to explain anything or what’s going on to you at this point. Along with Governor Pritzker ordering bars and restaurants to close doors now through March 30th, we are also following suit and cancelling all shows we had lined up now until the end of the month. As the situation with COVID-19 rapidly changing every day, we will be continuing to reassess our store being open and shows lined up in April and beyond on a day-to-day basis. We’ll list out shows being cancelled here below so we can cry about what we are missing together:

March 20th with Yellow Number 7, Florida Brothers, Velvet Bethany, Foot
March 21st with Pledge Drive, Gnarly Beth, Dexter, Big Tobacco, Telephone Junkies
March 28th (Bottom Bracket release), Looming, Nectar, Marble Teeth, Belle
March 29th with Pig City, Livid, Capitol Offense + more.

There are a number of shows lined up in early April, and we will have to re-assess those shows in the next few weeks and inform you all of any more cancellations.

As we already announced, Record Store Day has been postponed to Saturday June 20th, 2020. Some of these other cancelled shows, such as the Bottom Bracket release show will also likely happen at a later date.

This is hard for us to do as a local business needing to pay rent and bills, but plenty of other businesses, bands, and people are negatively impacted in similar ways and this is something bigger than us. Safety is most important right now, and so is supporting each other through other means and washing our hands.

Our store is remaining open during normal hours of 10:00 am to 8:00 pm for now. We’ll be here catching up on online orders and going through records still. However, these next few days we might be pushing buying records or CDs through us through our Discogs page online – and a possible re-launch of our online merch store coming soon.

Blushe: “MAD”

Today we bring you the new five-track EP from Springfield local rockers, Blushe. This EP is entitled “MAD” and you can stream it all on the bandcamp player embedded below. Of course tonight is the scheduled release show (CD? cassette? we are not sure) for Blushe, and the show is continuing despite other events getting cancelled all over the city, state, and globe these past few days. Just look at it outside right now. The annual downtown St. Patrick’s Day parade has been cancelled today, but our store is still open from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and we still have this show going on at our space tonight. Definitely come only if you are feeling up for it, wash your hands, etc. Tonight is the big EP release show for local band Blushe! Blushe have been playing shows for well over a year now, and their first recordings have been long anticipated. For this show we welcome garage punk band The Dry Look back from Champaign. It sure has been a minute since they last performed here, perhaps at Black Sheep. Stream some of their music on the player embedded below. Also Attic Salt is performing, a band everyone knows and loves. Before them is Dexter Anodyne performing another solo show. Looks like opening things up is the electronic synth act also with a new album, Ricki Marvel.

Record Store Day 2020 Moved To June 20th

There’s some big cancellations and postponements going on these past few days that we are trying our best to keep up with impacting our store, shows, and more. Since we are involved with so many different events in and outside of our space, we are taking things step by step and case by case to make the right decisions regarding safety and heath. We’ll do our best to let you all know of any cancellations through here.

Of course many of you are aware that the Annual Springfield St. Patrick’s Day Parade downtown has been cancelled or postponed to a later date. This means no elephant.

The other big postponement affecting us and what is usually the biggest day of the year for our store is Record Store Day 2020. That has been moved to Saturday June 20th, 2020. Here’s the statement from Record Store Day:

Record Store Day is a worldwide event celebrating record stores and their place in the community. In the interest of being good members of those local, national and worldwide communities, we’ve decided to move the date of Record Store Day 2020 to JUNE 20.

The basic plan is to shift everything to that date, but there are a lot of people and things involved with a worldwide event like this, and a lot of moving pieces, so be nice to your record store if they don’t have an immediate answer to your questions. We’re all working on, well, everything.

Wash your hands. Take care. We want everyone to be happy, healthy and looking forward to getting together for the party. #RSD20#RSDJUNE20

We are thankful that Record Store Day still can take place as of right now and we hope you all will still come out in support of your local record stores. The list of exclusive releases is still in order and can be found on the Record Store Day website – we have put in our order already, and everything is still going as planned, just for a later date.

As far as our shows go, things are rapidly changing every day and even every hour. Many touring bands are cancelling tours right now, and we currently have 25 shows featuring mostly touring acts from now until the end of the summer. We will be taking shows step by step and case by case, and letting you all know of any cancellations.
Our store will remain open from 10:00am – 8:00pm at 418 E Monroe Street here downtown. We are a small business that will be negatively impacted by these cancellations. If you wish to continue supporting us in some way, we also have thousands of records and CDs listed for sale online at all times.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Maddie Razook, Baby Ocho, Clare Frachey, Star Stuff

Happy Thursday everybody! These certainly are crazy times, but the shows here aren’t stoppin’ and tonight we’ve got another “Jeff presents…” show. You know, Jeff. The Jeff. This show features touring solo indie/pop artist from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Maddie Razook. Stream Maddie’s newest album on the player below. Then we’ve got an interesting lineup of local acts. Baby Ocho is one of those – who has recently performed a few shows solo around town, but we here this is going to be the first ever Springfield performance as a full band project. Before that is lo-and-behold, Clare Frachey formerly of the bands SAP, JAG, etc. we used to see a lot of in the Black Sheep days. The one other local act on the bill is rock group Star Stuff! That’s it.

Dumb Records Participating In Annual Springfield St. Patrick’s Day Parade This Saturday

Here we are, one year later, using the exact same flier that we made for the downtown Springfield St. Patrick’s Day Parade last year. We are once again participating in the downtown parade that is happening this Saturday at noon downtown, and being pulled by the Miles T Shirts van. What’s different this year? Our elephant is supposed to be completely fixed with a brand new coat of paint! So that should be exciting! Check out the parade route on the parade website right here.

Throughout all of this, our store will be open at 418 E Monroe during its regular hours of 10:00 am to 8:00 pm all day on Saturday. Actually no wait! We’ll be open even later than that because we got a show going on that night!
