101398843_553986558594915_7406689729225162752_n

Wow! It looks like somehow we weren’t paying attention and Taylorville-based alternative rock group Stick People have dropped a brand new ten-track full length album! That album is called Mondoduke and it is the band’s first propper full length, after they released their Lips EP all the way back in 2017 now. You can find Mondoduke streaming on the player below, also find it on Spotify right here or on Apple Music right here. You can also purchase the download of the album on bandcamp right here. This album was recorded and mixed by Kevin Carman who is also a new addition to the band since their previous release.

Stick People don’t have any shows lined up because we still live in a world where shows can’t happen yet!

Looming Debut New Song “Slide” In Exchange For Donations To Brave Space Alliance

slide

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard new music from Springfield heavy hitting rock group Looming! Now the band is debuting a brand new song, but doing it for a good cause. From Looming’s facebook page:

We have a brand new song called Slide. Wanna hear it? In honor of the Black Lives Matter movement and Pride month we are encouraging donations to Brave Space Alliance in Chicago. If you donate ANYTHING to them….even just $1….email your receipt to loomingillinois@gmail.com and we will email you back with a link to download an unreleased and unheard song that we’ve been working on.

https://actionnetwork.org/…/help-sustain-brave-space-allian…

“Brave Space Alliance, the only Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ Center in Chicago needs your help to survive and thrive. We need vital financial support in order to continue providing life-saving, culturally competent, for-us by-us programs and services to Black and Brown trans and gender non-conforming people on the South and West sides of the city.”

Yep, that’s right! We are not streaming the song below or anything like that, because you have to follow the directions and donate to Brave Space Alliance to get the song!

Looming released their sophomore album Seed in 2017.

An Updated List Of Black Owned Businesses In Springfield To Support

updated_blackowned

Earlier this week we compiled an easy-to-share list of black owned businesses in Springfield to support. Much of this list was compiled by the Springfield Black Chamber of Commerce and then we added a few from comments and elsewhere.

The Springfield Black Chamber of Commerce is working on their own more in-depth database and also is raising money in their mission of empowering and sustaining black-owned businesses through advocacy, training, and resource development. You can find a link to donate on their page.

Levitt AMP Music Series Postponed Until 2021

100797301_1095466844172110_8584041377178845184_o

It comes as no surprise that major outdoor music events and festivals that were going to be taking place this summer are impacted by COVID-19 and limits on social gatherings even as restrictions are lifted and we move to different phases of re-opening. Shows at our space still aren’t happening, and we still aren’t anywhere near being able to plan for them happening again.

Last week the Levitt AMP Music Series, which our city received a grant for for the second year in a row, announced that the series is going to be postponed until 2021. The concert series was going to be taking place every Thursday this summer out on the Y-block once again, just through the alleyway from our downtown location. The Springfield Levitt AMP page made a full stagement last week. Here is some of that:

Given the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the status of large public gatherings in Illinois due to the COVID-19 pandemic — and out of concern for the health, safety and well-being of our community — the organizers of the Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series, in consultation with the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, have made the difficult decision to postpone the second season of the popular ten-week music series to 2021.
“This concert series is about bringing all of Springfield together, and we’ll put on an amazing series at the Y Block when we can once again gather in large groups safely,” said Lisa Clemmons Stott, Executive Director of Downtown Springfield Inc., one of the partner organizations.
Added Scott Troehler, President of the Board of Directors of the Downtown Springfield Heritage Foundation, “This decision did not come easily, as it impacts many people in our community, including our dedicated volunteers and crew, artists, presenting partners, community partners, vendors and sponsors, in addition to the thousands of friends, families and neighbors who were looking forward to free Levitt AMP concerts on the Y Block this summer.”
We will also try to post more updates on other major summer events being postponed or cancelled, or when more info is announced regarding next year’s Levitt AMP Series.

Updated June Store Hours (Starting Today)

IMG_4140

Happy Monday everyone. There is a lot happening in the world right now. Our physical store has been closed for two and a half months, and today we are opening it back up with some restrictions. (Please don’t everyone come here all at once). Starting today, we plan on operating for all of June on limited hours of noon – 6:00 pm at our location here downtown at 418 E. Monroe St. Along with re-opening for June, we are limiting the amount of people allowed in our space at once to five. Face masks are strongly recommended. Heck, we’ll go as far as saying face masks are required. There will be a bottle of hand sanitizer right at the door, and we ask that you use if you are going to be touching anything.

We are also still offering free local delivery on records or t-shirts purchased from us in advance through online. You can still find our discogs page active right here, and our storenvy site online right here.

And once again for anyone asking about shows, we definitely aren’t there yet. We can not project at what point we will be able to have live music again, and we are not scheduling any events at any point in the future still. If things go as planned and our state moves on to “phase 4” later this summer or in July, we have some other exciting projects to debut before we get to the point of being able to host live music again.

Flunkie: “Pure Optimist”

a0949132023_10

Here’s some music news that isn’t exactly local music news anymore – the solo artist “Flunkie” is formerly from Springfield but recently re-located to the Chicago area. This week she has debuted her newest release, Pure Optimist, 8 tracks and looks like there is a physical format for this one of some pretty nifty looking cassettes. You can check that out streaming on the bandcamp player embedded below. Head over to Flunkie’s bandcamp page to purchase the download for the album or to purchase the cassette.

Looks like this one even made bandcamp’s “picks of the week”!
