International Route 66 Mother Road Festival (Car Show Weekend) Cancelled

What we found to be one of the craziest weekends downtown (in a good way) on our first go-around last year of being at our new location, “Car Show Weekend,” has unfortunately now officially been cancelled for this summer. The International Route 66 Mother Road Festival which takes place every year at the end of September and was slated to take place this year from September 25th-27th, has decided to pull the plug this year after growing concerns of the rise of COVID-19. From the festival’s facebook page:

The current status of the phased reopening in Illinois, coupled with an overabundance of caution has been the major force in driving this decision. We are fully planning to host the event in 2021 and will announce dates as soon as they are confirmed.

Participants who have pre-registered vehicles will automatically receive a refund. Please note it may take up to 30 days to receive your refund. You will receive an email once the cancellation is processed and you will see the credit to your credit card within 5-7 business days from that date.

The International Route 66 Mother Road Festival hosts and organizers appreciate your patience and support as we work through this unprecedented situation. We look forward to seeing you in 2021.

At this point every major downtown festival and event has been cancelled this summer, we’ll keep our site updated on more cancellations or news on what events are still happening. The St. Patrick’s Day Parade downtown was originally re-scheduled for September as well, although the future is still unpredictable for events even at that time.

Our Arcade Is Now Open + July Store Updates

106639684_10222254429137377_8632288844688422401_o

Yesterday, we made a surprise announcement that our arcade is now open to the public. That’s right, 10 games – (1 sit down racing game, 4 stand up classic arcade games, and 5 pinball machines), all waiting for you. Along with that announcement, we announced that we are upping our store hours to 11:00 am to 7:00 pm for now. The arcade is open during all of those hours as well, and we are testing things out with the arcade this month and will make adjustments if needed. For now, here is how we are doing things with our arcade:

👾 We currently have 10 games (5 pinball / 5 arcade).
👾 Entry is $5 or with $10 of any purchase in the store.
👾 All games are set to free / unlimited play (no quarters).
👾 We are limiting arcade occupancy to 4 at a time.
👾 Use hand sanitizer before and after entering

And here is a breakdown of some changes with the store:

💿 Face masks are now REQUIRED to enter
💿 Our hours are increased to 11am-7pm every day
💿 We are limiting to no more than 10 inside the building

One other thing! Now would be a good time to tell you all that we also will be open for July 4th this year (tomorrow)! We figure since we are now debuting the arcade and most normal Fourth of July activities are cancelled, we should be open.

Join us for some pinball and arcade chat on our forum! Now let’s play some games!

July 25th (outside of) Buzz Bomb Brewery: Stick People, Blushe

What’s this, today we are posting about a show that’s coming up in town!??! The first time we have done so in close to… four months??? This one is not happening at our space, it is happening just one block over from us outside of Buzz Bomb Brewery (406 E Adams). Buzz Bomb has been hosting live music acts (usually one per night) this past month or so, and we are starting to see other live music pop up around town as well (usually always outdoors). This is one of the first events coming up we’ve seen that we feel is notable to mention on our site and fits more of the description of a traditional “show” with multiple acts. Happening on Saturday, July 25th and those two acts are… Taylorville/Springfield alt. rockers Stick People, and Springfield punk group Blushe. Both groups have had new music come out during this pandemic.

Find a facebook event for this “punk night” right here. Start time is 8:00 pm, admission is free, and this would be… all ages? We are pretty sure? Also it might be time for us to reboot our Springfield shows page to keep track of some things happening around town?? Hmmmmm…

That is 36’s Anaxphobia Chapter 1: Roadshow, which you can find streaming on the player below. 36 Brimstone is affiliated with music collective DB Entertainment and has performed at our space a couple of times in the recent past. Also head on over to 36 N Brimstone’s soundcloud page for more music.
