If you haven’t noticed, the “CFP” house venue has been pretty quiet these past few months as things have been more up and rolling on the “Bread Stretchers” end of things. However, tonight the Springfield basement is hosting what looks like their one and only show this summer and the first one since shows have been happening at Bread Stretchers. Tonight the show at the CFP features the full band lineup of Kate The Band, who just released two hot new tracks on our site this past week. There are two touring bands on this show. The first is “Dead Selves” from Atlanta, Georgia. You can stream their music on the player below. The other band is “Dana Skully & The Tiger Sharks”. Wait, that band played at Black Sheep before, didn’t they? Opening things up is an act we haven’t seen in a minute – Marble Teeth from Decatur, Illinois.

All of this starts at the CFP house at 7:00 on July 3rd – yes, they will be serving Crusty Fish Pies as part of their vegan bake sale. It’s $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our Springfield shows page where we try to keep a list of shows going on outside of our space in town.

Zetaretic: “Demo”

62442347_2067894936845183_877948983828283392_o.jpg

We recently discovered a brand new metal recording project and possibly soon to be full band called “ZETARETIC” from right here in the Capital City, so of course felt it appropriate to share Zetaretic’s demo recordings that were just recently released. You can stream the first song of that demo: “What Lies Beneath” on the Youtube player below. Or head over to the Zetaretic Youtube Page to stream all five of the tracks. The demo is called The United $lave$ of America. It looks as if right now Zetaretic is just the solo project of Aaron Williams, but Aaron is looking to recruit other members to turn it into a full band. Go check out the Zetaretic facebook page if you would like to stay updated or learn more!

Yes we are also adding this one as a 2019 release under our Springfield album archive page! Go check it out! We just hit 450 releases!

New Band Pages: Snuff Rider

64949488_558167598048341_6163928160304889856_o

Today we present to you a brand new featured band page of the week and that is for the brand new instrumental surf band based out of here in Springfield and also Taylorville Illinois, called Snuff Rider. That’s right, you can check out that new page here. Snuff Rider has only played one show and that was the Activator Magazine Anniversary show at our space a few weekends ago. They have another one lined up this month at Buzz Bomb Brewery on the 17th. They have no recordings right now but on the page you can find out more about the band and see a live video taken from the show they played.

You can check out any of the 40+ current band pages we have set up on our current band pages right here. Yes, we know a lot of these need to be moved over to “past bands” right now and updated, we are working on it! Do you play in a local band or are a solo original musician here in town that does not have a page set up with us?? Email us at dumbrecs@gmail.com and we will work with you to set something up!

It’s the normal drill for this one – 15 minute slots from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, and to claim a slot, just post in the facebook event, email us at dumbrecs@gmail.com, or just show up to the show. The Music Shoppe Inc. New Location Grand Opening July 13th

msucishowww.jpg

Maybe not the usual type of local music going-ons we cover on this site, but we figured letting you all know about a new or relocating music instrument/gear store having a grand opening would be an appropriate thing to do, especially for all of you local musicians out there. The Music Shoppe Inc., which was formerly located at 14th and Stevenson Streets in Springfield is holding a grand opening for their new west end location they have moved to at 2940 Constitution Drive. This is out there by Target and Skyzone on the West End. If you don’t know about Skyzone on the west end you need to go there too. The grand opening for the new location is happening in a couple of weeks all day on Saturday, July 13th from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm. Find a facebook event for the grand opening right here. The Music Shoppe is open now (not today), but every day except for Sunday 10am-6pm, and 10am-5pm on Saturdays. There are music lessons at the new location as well.

With Capitol City Music also located out west on Wabash, this puts both major music shops in town out west. It seems as if The Rock Shop’s repair department has also joined forces with The Music Shoppe and will be involved with the new west end location.

Bruce Kodrich: “Don’t Leave Empty Handed”

a1633151497_10.jpg

Today we are bringing you a stream of a local album we are absolutely blown away at the existence of. Bruce Kodrich – (yes, father of Black Sheep co-owner Drew Kodrich, vocalist of hardcore band Prevention, etc., etc.) has uploaded a full length album of his own original music, called Empty-Handed onto bandcamp. We have that album streaming below. The album features eight tracks of pure rock. Also head over to Bruce’s bandcamp page to pay to download the album for seven bucks and support Bruce. There may or may not be rumors of many more lost tapes in Bruce’s rock collection of original material he recorded over the years.

These songs and recordings may or may not be older than 2019, but since it is being released into the world right now we are counting it as a release for this year in our Springfield album archive page.

The Deep Hollow: “Carry Me Home” (Music Video)

Screen Shot 2019-06-29 at 8.04.57 AM.png

Today we are bringing you a fresh new music video from local Americana trio “Deep Hollow“. The video is for their song “Carry Me” which was a track on the band’s latest album Weary Traveler which was released last year. It won’t let us embed the video below, will it? Dang it. You are going to have to go on over to The Deep Hollow’s facebook page to watch this video, right here. This neat video features a few friends of ours from all over Springfield singing along, including a one second clip of Dumb Records volunteer Brian Galecki in our store! The video was shot and directed by Josh Catalano of Catalano Creative.

The Deep Hollow opened up for Lionel Richie at The Bank of Springfield Center earlier this month. We are not sure of any other shows they have coming up right now. Check out our vids/pics page for a long list of Springfield music videos shot over the years that we are adding this one to.

Friday Night Concert Series At White Oaks Mall Starting Today

Screen Shot 2019-06-28 at 1.41.57 PM.png

It looks as if White Oaks Mall heard that cool weekly concert series’ are IN this summer, so they decided to make a move on planning weekly concerts of their own to happen Friday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm over in their food court. This whole series is kicking off tonight in the food court (don’t forget we also have a show going on over here, so choose wisely), with the first act in the series being The Capital Big Band. The only other concert confirmed on the White Oaks Mall website right now is for next week July 5th with American Idol contestant Gracie Nave. White Oaks will be keeping an updated schedule on their site right here. And of course as seen on the flier above, White Oaks is open to hearing from acts that are interested in performing. Anyone interested can call the number listed: (217) 787-0110.

We just spoke with new White Oaks Marketing Coordinator Lori Kiel on the phone about the series, and she will be joining us on our radio program if all goes as planned in two weeks on Friday, July 12th to talk about what else is coming up in the series!

Tonight at Bread Sheep: Local Drags (LP Release), Bottom Bracket, Attic Salt

58443102_2447899931928026_7264597440680951808_o

There is a show going on at Bread Sheep tonight! It’s our only one we’ve got lined up this weekend so be sure to come out tonight and enjoy the pure music. Tonight is going to be the LP release (yes, a vinyl record) of local group Local Drags who have not performed in Springfield very often if even at all. It’s good though – someone is pressing their album on to wax so it’s gotta be good. Stream that new album on that player below. This show is also going to be good because it’s got heavy hitters Bottom Bracket on board. And we’ve also got a rare Attic Salt performance – another band who has yet to play in the new space. That’s it! It’s just a three band show now.

This show starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our Bread Stretch Record Sheep’s shows page for a look at what is coming up in this space next door to us that we don’t have anything to do with.
