The music videos for local artists keep on comin’ in hot!! This afternoon we are bringing you one shot in the heart of downtown Springfield – even some of it looks like it was shot right infront of our store! This video is for local rapper DZY and his song “Waiting On”, which was shot and directed by the very talented and always busy Jayy Wills. Check that out on the player below, or also on youtube right here. DZY performed at least one song with DreTheGuy at the most recent hip hop show at our space earlier this month.

Check out more videos shot and produced by Jayy Wills (JWE) right here. Also check out our vids/pics page and scroll down for a list of music videos from local acts over the years.

Here’s a show coming up here really quick!! Like in two weeks even! On Friday, September 13th. “The The Bread Theatre” (Very fancy). We’ve got a nice mix of solo artists on this show! At the top of the bill is Asa Dawson. Who’s that? He used to be in popular indie rock band from Springfield in the 2000’s called The Junior Varsity! Another blast from the past on this show from those of you who may have been around for some early Black Sheep days is The Winning Stretch, which is nowadays the duo of married couple Josh and Laura Kuhl (pronounced like “cool”). Before that is a solo set by Mario Cannamela. Opening things up looks like is Blue Parks!

What a nice, relaxing, indie rock / acoustic show. Starting at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page which we just updated!

Local Springfield musician Dexter Anodyne who recently released her debut album, Weeping Venus has now released a music video for the track “The River” off of that album. The video here was produced and directed by Matt Schmitt looks like with the help of Artist United Network which is a media production service based out of St. Charles, Missouri. Great job, everybody! You can hopefully check out the video embedded on the player below. If that’s not working, you can go see it on the Artist United Network facebook page right here.

Looks like the next show Dexter is playing in town is on September 21st across the street from us at Bar None. Also check out our vids/pics page and scroll down for a list of music videos taken over the years by Springfield bands/artists.

Today we bring you the stream of Gillespie Illinois-based pop artist Chance Reiniesch’s new EP, People Pleaser. You can stream all four songs of the EP on the youtube player below, or check it out on youtube right here, or Spotify right here.

Don’t forget that Chance’s EP release show is also tonight at Dumb Records, where he will have People Pleaser available for sale on CD! We will be sure to pick up copies for our local section as well! We are aslo adding this one to our Springfield album archive page, putting us at release number 38 so far as featured on our site this year.

Gargantuan: “Wardogs Ov The Wild Hunt”

a1614742261_10.jpg

Today we bring you a brand new track which was released on bandcamp this past week for a new project so dark and mysterious… we don’t know really anything about it! So dark and scary that we were hesitant on sharing this with you!! The project is called “Gargantuan” and we know it’s from here in town but don’t think it has any live performances lined up. The song is called “Wardogs Ov The Wild Hunt” and you can find it streaming below. From the bandcamp page:

This track is the first single of GARGANTUAN’s upcoming premier album, ‘Upon the Golgothan Plains”, to be released at an undisclosed date in 2019, gods willing.

We also certainly don’t know why Dumb Records is thanked in the bandcamp notes!! Beware of more future Gargantuan.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Chance Reiniesch (CD Release), Rather Dashing, Vincent Sebastian

What’s going on over at our space tonight? It’s another CD release show for an artist from the area! This time the CD release is for Chance Reiniesch – a vocalist / musician from Gillespie, Illinois (pretty close to here) who is releasing a new EP called People Pleaser. We are fairly certain the EP will be available on CD. And it’s up on Spotify now!  Also on this show and playing our new spot for the first time is local rock group Rather Dashing. Stream some of their music on the player below. We’ve had a slight lineup change to the show since it was first announced it looks like – instead of Kenyon DeShasier playing tonight, Vincent Sebastian is going to take his place and do a short set. Also tonight is a good night to head on downtown and check out this show and also maybe catch a glimpse of Spin Doctors at The Old Capitol Blues & BBQ Festival!

Check out a facebook event for our show tonight right here. Start time is 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Also be sure to look at our shows page for a look at what else is coming up! See ya!

Today on The Dumb Records Radio Show: Reaver

reavershow.jpg

Guess what, it’s Friday so that means it’s another episode of The Dumb Records Radio Show!! Our show isn’t over until they pull the plug (which could be at any given point, but we’ll keep you all updated with any news regarding the status of WQNA as soon as we are able to). Today we are back on air, and continuing our streak of having special guests on with us every single time! Today’s guests are the band Reaver from Alton, Illinois playing at Dumb Records tonight! We’ll be talking with them halfway through the episode and playing plenty of their new album that just recently came out.

Tune in at our regular time from 4:00 to 6:00 pm today and every Friday on 88.3 WQNA FM, or online at wqnaradio.org! Also check out our radio page or Mix Cloud page to stream some recently recorded old episodes.

Shonen Knife (Japan) at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s September 30th

Screen Shot 2019-08-22 at 6.34.50 PM.pngA lot of you may have been dying to know what our secret international band we were trying to book at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s when we announced that we were looking for sponsors to make this happen earlier this summer. Well tonight we are letting the beans out of the bag! The show is happening Monday, September 30th and our big secret band is Shonen Knife from Japan!

Shonen Knife is an alternative rock band formed in Osaka, in 1981. Heavily influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, The Beach Boys, and early punk rock bands, such as the Ramones, the trio crafts stripped-down songs with simple, yet uncoventional lyrics sung both in Japanese and English.

From November 24 to December 11, Shonen Knife toured with Nirvana and Eugenious all over the UK for a total of nine shows and during the tour Naoko taught Cobain how to play “Twist Barbie”, which Nirvana covered live at one of their secret shows.

Of course we have to send out a big thank you to all of our sponsors that answered our call to help in donations to make this free to the public show a reality. Those sponsors are listed out here, support these businesses!

nightshop (in Bloomington, Illinois)
Grab-a-Java, Inc.
Activator Magazine
Hardee’s
Buzz Bomb Brewing Company
Copper Pot Cooking Studio
Dumb Records
The Real 217 Prublems
ColorDerm Permanent MakeUP
Edmiston Consulting
Benny DeWitt Tattoos
The Radon Lounge
Rail Splitter CrossFit
Redbird Electric Tattooing

Shonen Knife will be touring this time around with an opener “The Hooten Hallers” which from our understanding have actually played Springfield at Bar None before, and they are from Missouri.

The start time for this event is going to be right at 6:00 pm (don’t be late)! It is free, but we will gratefully accept donations at the show and even before to make sure we have enough to cover costs of pulling this off (we did fall short of our goal with our sponsors, but are still to the point where it is happening no matter what). Find a facebook event for this one right here.
