Pay attention, because we are here now to tell you about a pretty sick gig happening on Thursday, November 14th at our space. You’re all invited. This show features Jupiter Styles, which has been making a big splash in the Chicago area and features Sean Neumann (formerly of Single Player, Nectar, Easter, and maybe some other bands that have played at Black Sheep). Stream some of their up and coming big hit album on the player below. Also on this show is the return of Bottom Bracket, back with a brand new lineup or something? We heard a rumor that every single former member of the band has now been replaced with a brand new members from all over the world, we are going to have to see if that is true. Also this is the return of Kate Laine who we have also not seen in a minute! Opening things up is some new group from Alton, Illinois called “Yeah, I’m Sorry.” What kind of a name for a band is that?

This all starts on November 14th at… 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything else coming up this fall.

Videos: Navel at Dumb Records 9-4-19

Screen Shot 2019-10-11 at 7.29.11 AM.png

Today we bring you a video of the band Navel from Japan performing at our space earlier last month. They were a surprise band that we were only able to announce a few days before the show, and have been active playing punk rock since the early 1990’s. This was their first time touring the U.S.A. and we were thrilled to have them as the first band from overseas at our new location. Check out the video embedded below, or go to our youtube channel right here.

Also find more videos from over the years (mostly at Black Sheep) on our vids/pics page.

There is yet another show happening at Springfield house / basement venue “The CFP” this fall! It is happening on Monday, November 4th. For those of you who do not know, C.F.P. stands for The Crappy Flappy Pancake house. The touring act on this show is Nonconnah, they are a shoegaze duo from Hickory Withe, Tennessee. You can stream some of their music on the player below! This one is going to be a rare show for solo ambient act “Pretend I’m Not There.” Also a very rare show for experimental / electronic / ambient solo act, Imaginary Colours. Also on the bill is solo act “Belle” from Champaign/Urbana.

This show starts on November 4th at 7:00 pm. Admission is $5-7. We can’t tell you where The CFP is located, sorry! Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our Springfield shows page, which probably isn’t very updated right now! Whoops!

The Dixie Narcos: “Tinder Folk”

Psychadelic Rock group The Dixie Narcos based out of Jacksonville Illinois are back with yet ANOTHER album! Amazing!! This is their second album to be released this year, and it is called Tinder Folk, and you can find it streaming on the player below. It’s a whole thirteen tracks. Check out their Spotify page where you can also hear it all. Or find the album right here on bandcamp. According to Spotify this is the band’s seventh full length album (we could be wrong on that), and even according to their facebook it looks like they are working on yet another album.

The Dixie Narcos also released the album Soda Pop earlier this year. They played one show inside of our show space earlier this summer and as far as we know it’s the only show the band played this year?? A band that has released more full length albums than shows they’ve performed live?? We are adding this one to our Springfield album archive page, bringing us to 43 releases featured on our site so far this year.

November 9th at Dumb Records: Mac Xavier, Satisfy, King Deezy, Unk + More

We’ve got another show coming up in November – this one is also one month from now on Saturday, November 9th. It’s a hip hop show featuring a group of artists all of which have never played at our space before. The headlining act here is an artist by the name of Mac Xavier, who was originally based out of Springfield but has since moved to Georgia. You can check out his music streaming on the player below. The poster has three other artists listed from the area. One of those includes “Satisfy.” It also includes…. King Deezy. And… “Unk”?! We can’t find Unk on the internet. Plus it looks like there’s more!

The poster says something about a VIP package but we told the promoters in this case that we are not really sure how that would work or make sense with our record store setup and being open all day before the show. Oh well. General admission for this show is $10, and let’s go ahead and say it starts shortly after 7:00 pm. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also check out our show page for a good look at what else is coming up at our space in the near future!

We have a band coming from California (the first from California to play our new downtown spot?) called Squarecrow. You can check ’em out on the player streaming below. Also two solid local acts are on this show, it’s gonna be good. Attic Salt is on this show, they are good. And guess what else, Starter Jackets are also on this show, they are also pretty good.

All of this happens tonight at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can check out that flier for some 2019 fall fashion tips to get your outfits ready. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Yes, we are already to the November show announcements. And this one is a hardcore show happening exactly one month from today on Friday, November 8th! It features the return of Outcast from Kentucky (and no, it’s not the Outkast you are thinking of). Outcast played at Black Sheep a year or so back. Check out their music streaming on the player below. Yes, we also have Springfield straight edge youth crew band Prevention on the lineup. Any fans of metal out there or metalcore? Good, because we have the band “Polterguts” from St. Louis as well. Opening things up is the new wild, fast, AND crazy band, Black Box.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up in the near future at our space.

October 2019 Issue Of Activator Available Now

IMG_9528.jpg

Yes, it is October we can still hardly believe it. And we can hardly believe that it’s a week into October. And we can hardly believe that we’ve been around here downtown for over nine months at this point and coming up on one year. And we can’t believe that Activator Magazine is on their like 16th or 17th issue and we have copies of that new issue inside of our store right now. We’ve got a big ol’ stack.

This issue is packed with a lot of stuff, as always. This includes album reviews and live music calendars for Central Illinois and St. Louis. This also includes interviews with bands Master Bastard (as featured on the cover), Prevention, Dirty Rotten Revenge, and Radio Buzzkills. There’s an interview with a new festival going on in Bloomington next month called Midwest Extreme Fest. There’s an interview with Gorecore FX and a photo-spread from Fashion Oddities fashion show that happened last month. Also an interview with local hip hop artist Valid Baby. All of that and much, much more.

Come pick up a copy for free at any time our store is open (10:00am – 8:00pm every day). And if you would like to go the extra mile and support Activator Magazine with the amazing things they are doing for our area, we highly recommend paying a visit to their Patreon page!
