The CFP had a show at their house last night (sorry, we’ve been behind on posting, otherwise we would have done a “show tonight…” post for it). Whoops! We are however ready to tell you about the next one that the big basement house venue has lined up. It’s happening exactly one month from today on Thursday, December 5th. Something about vegans and hot chocolates and snacks and two dollars. There are also musical acts. This includes touring act Jack M. Senff from Michigan. Check out Jack’s music on the player below. We’ve also got… Mario Cannamela of the band Bottom Bracket. Mario’s bedroom is upstairs at the end of the hall. Emily Hough is also playing, the 17 year old singer/songwriter from Petersburg who has been doing big things and putting out great tunes. Also Reggie & The Demons! (Who is Niko). Opening things up or something is Chance Knight doing some spoken word / poetry.

This show is at the CFP, if you don’t know where it is you’re gonna haft to ask somebody, sorry. It starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our Springfield shows page to look at a small list of shows going on in Springfield outside of our own space.

Springfield In Running For Second Levitt AMP Grant

70494990_888912514827545_3254721346415886336_o.jpg

Yes, you heard that correctly! You know that getting to have free outdoor concerts every Thursday night downtown on the Y-Block was a cool thing, even if you didn’t attend them all, so why not vote to make it happen again for our city?? This time our city is once again in the running for another $25,000 grant to bring free live music downtown this summer. Let’s vote!

Go register on the Levitt site and then vote for Springfield right here!

Springfield’s page on the Levitt site has a description that is more in-depth on how the grant next time around could potentially be used, and also how things went for us this past summer. Here is a piece from that:

No one was using this block before the first year of Levitt AMP. Now people see the possibilities. Yet the block is still in its infancy, as it does not yet have full infrastructure required to become a community gathering site. The city laid AstroTurf and a concrete pad for our first year as a necessary improvement over the dirt and weeds. Success after a second-year grant would include a long-term funding plan and RFP for design that can pass muster with all of our elected officials, from alderman to Governor.

The page on the Levitt site also currently shows that we are 7th place! (The top 25 cities make it on to the next round where the Levitt Foundation selects final recipients).

myflierNove17.jpg

This includes Nightcrawler from the Chicago area – playing some real smooth emo music, with a new hit record coming out on Rat King Records very soon. Stream that new hit single on the player below. The other touring act on the bill is a solo act called “Vera Devorah” from Lincoln, Nebraska. As far as locals go, we’ve got local rock group Star Stuff on the bill. We’ve also got Blushe. Opening up this show is actually a 13 year old singer songwriter we are really happy to welcome to perform at our space! That is Ella Gibson!

The State Journal-Register: “Good Heart Tattoos Opens In Downtown Springfield”

73108475_2836509193067096_4403077700219043840_n.jpg

Our new next door neighbor, Good Heart Tattoos, was featured in an article in the local paper, The State Journal-Register yesterday. This was a part of Sunday’s local business notes, and the paper talked with owner Benny DeWitt about the new downtown tattoo shop having a grand opening on Saturday, November 9th. Believe it or not Benny has already opened his doors and started tattooing in a soft-open, Tuesdays through Saturdays from noon until close. Here’s a snippet from the article:

This tradition even extends to the downtown location DeWitt selected, which he hopes conveys a certain image about his business.

“Through the early part of the last century, tattooers that were good wanted to be on Main Street USA,” DeWitt said. “So I feel that Monroe is kind of like Main Street USA and I think that’s a really cool thing to bring downtown.”

DeWitt added that “there’s a lot of creative businesses and a lot of blue collar-style stuff happening” downtown between the mix of breweries, record stores, coffee shops and a hip barbershop, making it an attractive spot for him.

You can find the full article in yesterday’s paper (Sunday), or online right here. In the business notes there is also mention of continuing development on a long-stalled apartment project also down the road from us on Sixth and Monroe Streets. There was also an article yesterday on a “Healthy prep meal service” also heading downtown to Monroe street, out of Custom Cup just down the road from us. Check that article out online right here.

November 2nd at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s: “Foam Fest”

foamfest.jpg

What’s this, there is something happening at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s one week from today… on Saturday November 2nd?? This is “Foamfest” being put together by Foam Fangers… which looks to us like a regular four band show happening at Hardee’s! As you can see we got some pizza, chicken, and burritos on the flier, but we are not sure if all of those things are currently on the Hardee’s menu. To see an official up to date Hardee’s menu, go to the Hardee’s website right here. Who is playing Foamfest?? At the top of the bill of course is Foam Fangers. We also have 90’s-sounding alternative / power pop band The Complaint Line rockin’ it. We also have… The Blood-Soaked Boogie Bandits! What a nice Halloween-themed act. Looks like opening things up is Prevention, who just played here last night!

Foamfest starts at 6:30pm according to the flier, and it’s free. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Our weather radar tells us it’s going to be a nice high of 48 degrees and low of 31 on that day with clear skies, we’ll keep an on that weather! Find a list of other shows going on around Springfield on our shows page.
