Black Friday Record Store Day is typically our second biggest day in sales at Dumb Records right next to Record Store Day in April. Believe it or not, Black Friday is just one week away from today on Friday, November 29th. We’ve been meaning to fill you all in on the titles that we are expecting to get in this year. Typically for recent Record Store Day events, one forth to one third of what we order does not end up showing up. 😦 This usually leads to a few disappointed customers (sorry). Don’t worry though, you don’t need any of that over-priced fancy shmacy stuff. Luckily we are doing a store-wide sale, 25% off everything! (Except for exclusive releases). And we are getting all stocked up on record players, gift cards, shirts, hoodies, crew neck sweatshirts and all of that great stuff!! We even have a show that night at 7:00 pm! So come out even if you aren’t just in it for the exclusives! But if you are, you can find that list of what we ordered below. For everything listed here, you can find more detailed descriptions on the Record Store Day website. And as usual, we can not put any holds on any of that stuff. Sorry.

December 13th at Dumb Records: Benefit Show For Springfield Community Broadcasters (WQNA DJs)

howsthislookdanny.jpg

Are you ready to hear about an important show lined up? Of course yesterday we told you about how the plug was pulled on WQNA 88.3 fm community radio as we know it, however fundraising will continue. Well, there is a benefit event going on TONIGHT at Buzz Bomb Brewery, so get on over to that (more info right here). Then on Friday, December 13th we have our own benefit show happening at Dumb Records to go towards the cause of continuing community radio in Springfield! Proceeds will be going to Springfield Community Broadcasters.

Who do we got playing? Epsom is at the top of the bill, a band we all know is going to rock. The newer local duo that is grade-A quality music, Idle Oath will be playing as well. Idle Oath features Mark Beanblossom who was a DJ on Thursday evenings on 88.3 WQNA. Stream some of their music on the player below. We also have Snuff Rider lined up… instrumental heavy surf band… but guess what, they have changed their name to SONIC MAXIMIZER. We can hardly handle that new name, sorry the flier above isn’t updated. Opening things up is Arlin Peebles and Erin Steinhauer! A duo that you all know and love from The Studio show.

That show starts at 7:00 pm, and for admission we are asking donations of at least $5 to go towards the cause. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page to see what else is coming up at our space in the near future.

WQNA 88.3 FM Sold To Catholic Radio Group, Springfield Community Broadcasters Fundraising Continues

IMG_9647.JPG

It is a sad day for us that have been part of community radio at 88.3 WQNA FM. Yesterday, the plug was pulled on the station which had ran on the air for over 40 years since 1979 after a bid was made by a Catholic radio group and accepted by CACC. However, fundraising efforts for community radio are continuing and not all hope is lost. Here is the official post yesterday from the WQNA 88.3 facebook page:

As of noon today, CACC finalized the sale of the WQNA 88.3 FM license to Covenant Network, a Network with two existing subsidiaries in Springfield radio, and shortly after, WQNA fell silent.

While we knew this was coming in some form or fashion, none of us have had a chance to do a final sign-off or say goodbye to WQNA and the loyal audience we all share.

BUT we want to make sure that everyone is aware that beyond being taken off-air, nothing has changed regarding fundraising efforts led by the Springfield Community Broadcasters, the non-profit that is working to keep community radio alive in Springfield.

WE ARE IN PROCESS OF ACQUIRING ANOTHER LICENSE.

We can’t share all the details, but this is a another real avenue to keep the broadcasters and programming from WQNA alive on another FM frequency, and we will keep you updated as much as possible in the coming weeks.

We have lost this battle, but the war continues. The benefit at Buzz Bomb is still going. The benefit at Dumb Records is still on. Same with the show at the Alamo. The Go Fund Me is still active. Nothing has changed beyond this bump in the road.

We are not dead, and rumors of our demise have been oft exaggerated.

Please share this far and wide, and let’s keep working to save community radio!!!!

A link to donate to the ongoing GoFundMe campaign can be found right here. Dumb Records as well as Recycled Records and The Elf Shelf continue to be drop off points for check or cash donations. Over $10,000 at this point has been raised to go towards the cause of continuing community radio. Tomorrow (Thursday) at 7:00 pm is the fundraiser / benefit at Buzz Bomb Brewery not far from us downtown. You can find a facebook event with more info right here. We will also be hosting a benefit show at Dumb Records on Friday, December 13th which we will announce details for tomorrow.

An article ran in the City & State section of The State Journal Register about the sale of the station. “WQNA-FM sold to Catholic Radio Group; Signal Goes Silent” – which you can check out online right here or by picking up a copy of today’s (Wednesday’s) newspaper.

Screen Shot 2019-11-18 at 4.49.42 PM.png

Today we bring you a new hit music video featuring not one, not two, but THREE talented local artists: Deezy Da Paperboy, Jayy Wills, and Cornbread. The video is for a song called “Angels,” by Deezy Da Paperboy and was shot and directed by Jayy Wills, looks like out in the mountains of Illinois somewhere. You might also catch a glimpse of some other local celebrities in the video. Check out the video on the player below.

Check out a list of other local music videos shot throughout the years on our vids/pics page.

The Dixie Narcos: “Honey”

Screen Shot 2019-11-18 at 2.13.08 PM.png

The music-making machines over in Jacksonville known as “The Dixie Narcos” have released a new song called “Honey” which comes off of an upcoming album called Orange 3. You can find that track on the youtube video embedded below. Actually the band kept going with new singles presumably all off the upcoming album with a few more uploaded onto their youtube page since this one a few weeks ago. We just can’t keep up. Check out the track “Deadlights” here, “Out” here, and “Please, Tell Me About The F*cking Golf Shoes” here.

The Dixie Narcos have already released two full length albums this year. Those include Soda Pop, and Tinderfolk. Check them out on bandcamp right here, or on spotify right here. The Dixie Narcos played one show at our space earlier in the summer, but currently don’t have any live shows lined up as far as we know.

Tin Ghost: “Into The Arms Of The Great Unknown”

a4057149634_10.jpg

It’s been a minute since we’ve been back on track with some new Springfield music that’s been coming out. Today we are bringing you a brand new full album from Springfield recording project “Tin Ghosts.” “Tin Ghost, originally formed by Mark Schwartz in 2008, has been resurrected after a 10 year hiatus. Tin Ghost blends haunting melodies, acoustic elements, and modern songcraft into music that sounds both old and new.” Tin Ghost just came out with an album (the third to be released on bandcamp in the past few years), called Into The Arms of the Great Unknown, and you can find it streaming in its entirety on the player embedded below. Also head over to the Tin Ghosts bandcamp page where you can purchase the download of the album as well as check out previous releases by the project.

You bet we are adding this one to our Springfield album archive page. This brings us to 47 releases featured so far this year, and 473 total.

myflierNove17

It is a Sunday, and we have a very good show lined up for you all tonight! Tonight includes Nightcrawler from the Chicago area – playing some real smooth emo music, with a new hit record coming out on Rat King Records very soon. Stream that new hit single on the player below. The other touring act on the bill is a solo act called “Vera Devorah” from Lincoln, Nebraska. As far as locals go, we’ve got local rock group Star Stuff on the bill. We’ve also got Blushe. Opening up this show is actually a 13 year old singer songwriter we are really happy to welcome to perform at our space! That is Ella Gibson!

All of that starts at 7:00 pm tonight and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at our space in the coming months.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Jupiter Styles, Bottom Bracket, Kate Laine, Yeah I’m Sorry

72110872_2790154481035901_3480459454489559040_n

It’s been a cold and Christmas-y past couple of days here in the middle of downtown. We are ready to heat things up with a show tonight! You’re all invited! This show features Jupiter Styles, which has been making a big splash in the Chicago area and features Sean Neumann (formerly of Single Player, Nectar, Easter, and maybe some other bands that have played at Black Sheep). Stream some of their up and coming big hit album on the player below. Also on this show is the return of Bottom Bracket, back with a brand new lineup or something? We heard a rumor that every single former member of the band has now been replaced with a brand new members from all over the world, we are going to have to see if that is true. Also this is the return of Kate Laine who we have also not seen in a minute! Opening things up is some new group from Alton, Illinois called “Yeah, I’m Sorry.” What kind of a name for a band is that?

This all starts on tonight at 7:00 pm and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything else coming up this fall.
