Tonight at Harm House: Dan Potthast (MU330), boon, Insomniac Folklore, Kat Jones, Dustin Sendejas

danpotthastinsomniac

Tonight we have what looks like has turned into a pretty big deal of an acoustic/folk/ska show happening at Springfield house venue The Harm House. Tonight Dan Potthast of the band MU330 will be performing in Springfield as a part of his Living Room Tour for the first time since the 1990s. MU330 were an old St. Louis ska band which played Springfield a few times with bands such as The Timmys and NIL8. On top of Dan playing the Harm House, there are also a number of other great acts playing. There will be a performance by the three-piece band boon. Also there will be performances by two other touring guests and those are Kat Jones and Insomniac Folklore, both on their way to Audiofeed Festival happening this weekend in Champaign. Opening things up will be a rare full-band performance by Dustin Sendejas formerly of The Transatlantic.

The show tonight at The Harm House kicks off right at 7:00 pm. There will also be food for everybody at the show so come early. Don’t have the address to the house? Ask a friend or email bggalecki34@gmail.com. Check out a facebook event for the show right here, and see our Springfield shows page for a list of shows happening around Springfield outside of Black Sheep.

You can stream some of the band’s music and find out more about them on their new band page right here. If you want to catch Blind Social live, they will be playing at The Black Sheep battle of the bands on Saturday, July 12th which is coming up fast! More info on that show right here.

Check out any of our 70-something band pages for current Springfield bands right here. Do you play in a Springfield band that has not yet set up a band page with us? We would love to hear from you! You can email us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set up a new page.

July 20th at Black Sheep: Mama Linda Benefit Show

mama linda

For those of you who didn’t read the post about Mama Linda, her house burned down in May. Mama Linda is a very good friend to the Black Sheep, and almost all of the food our beloved punk mom Apryl brings to shows to feed show-goers and touring bands is because Mama Linda gives it to her, thanks to her access to overstock. We want to help Mama Linda out and show her as much generosity as she shows us!!

Therefore, there’s going to be a benefit show in July and everyone who is anyone should come! Why? This show will not only be helping Mama Linda, it’s a Mother Leopard return show. Holy crap, come see the locals in Mother Leopard exhibit all their glory once again! You can hear some of their songs in the bandcamp player below if you need your memory to be refreshed. A really cool band named In Exile will be coming down to play as well in order to bring the love and the hardcore punk to the stage. The rug bugs in Soap Scum are playing too and should bring a horridly killer set as usual, so come see them!! We have even more locals on the bill too, this show will feature the dream-punk tunes of Mystery Gift as well as the emo jamz of Wir Konnen. Check it out, this show should be rad!

It will be held July 20th at 7pm. All donations will go to Mama Linda so save up your change and extra dollars! There’s also a whole Help Mama Linda page! Check that out for sure, and here’s the facebook event for any other information. Keep it real.

July 18th at Black Sheep: Kickstart, The Moms, Deviant, Fill In The Blank

kickstartbig

Our summer wouldn’t be complete without that Friday night hot and sweaty pop punk show (although things won’t be as sweaty inside Black Sheep with our new heating/cooling system). On Saturday, July 18th we have a show for local pop punkers Kickstart. The big time touring band on this bill is called The Moms from New Jersey. They are on punk record label Paper + Plastick Records and you can find some of their music streaming below. Other than that we have the mighty Central Illinois-based melodic hardcore band, Deviant. It has been a little while since they have taken the stage at Black Sheep. To complete the lineup we have a performance by pop-punk band Fill In The Blank.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find this show listed along with many more Black Sheep shows on our shows page.

Our Lady / Estates Stream Split 7″ & Announce Show

OLESATESMOCK   Guard Records, Mind Over Matter Records, Estates & Our Lady are all teaming up to release a really neat split 7″ with a release date set tentatively in late August. The 7″ will be on 5 different color variants, as well as having a screen printed cover & a full stapled in booklet! Couch King has been kind enough to bring us our first free stream of both sides of split which you can find here. The record & all its colorful majesty is now up for pre order here. smalll In other new related news the dorks in both bands are having a Springfield show at The Black Sheep Cafe alongside HOT local hardcore acts Mildred & Meredosia. You can find the event for the show here.

July 14th at Black Sheep: King Worm, Blackhole, New Heart, Panzys

ugh

Hey! We have a cool show sandwhich coming up on Monday, July 14th. It’ll be hosting the local tween pop band King Worm, so make sure to plug your nose for that one. Then we’ll hear some hardcore crud from Missouri based Blackhole. Check out some of their music streaming below. Another band playing that night called New Heart coming from Indianapolis will fork out some brutal jamz, then to finish the sandwhich off we’ll have the sensitive crooners in Panzys tie everything up really well. It’s sure to be a great show!

That’ll be coming up on July 14th with the usual 7:00 pm show starting punk time, $5 at the door. You can find a facebook event for this show right here. We have alot of other cool shows coming up both before and after that so check our shows page out! And in the words of Blackhole, keep spitting.

Tonight at Black Sheep: The Big Push Contest

big push

Who is ready to rumble? Tonight we have a little something different going on at Black Sheep Cafe. We’re hosting an event sponsored by Rich Taste Entertainment and Ozland photography called the Big Push Contest. According to the facebook event for tonight’s big extraveganza,

The contest is designed to give one lucky artist/band a shot at the big time. The winner/s of the contest will receive professional recording, a music video and digital distribution.

With placement on iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, the X-Box store and hundreds more digital retailers plus a music video shot by Ozland Photography we will giving you that “Big Push” needed to take your music to the next level.

Wow! Who will win? Come out to the show tonight! Looks like so far we have a lot of underground acts such as Webacksoon, BDoug, Keithen Gardner, The MoonMen and much more. There will be no indie, punk or folk acts tonight because hip-hop has the floor and all the haters should come anyway. Why? Because it’ll be cool that’s why.

Come out at 7:00 pm and check out the tunes, there might be free candy, and entry fee is $7. Check out a facebook event for the show tonight right here. Make sure to also check out the other awesome shows we have coming up.

Black Sheep Battle of the Bands 2014 Lineup

battleofthebands2014

The Black Sheep Battle of the Bands is happening again this year and it’s coming up fast!  The battle is only two weeks from tomorrow (Saturday, July 12th) and tonight we are here with our finalized lineup of five young bands ready to compete in the battle. This year’s lineup features…

Panzys
Blind Social
The Locals
Schnozzberry Jam
Descrate the Kingdom

That’s it! As you can probably tell some of these bands have played the stage at Black Sheep before, and some are entirely new. This year there will be similar awards to two winning bands. The first prize will go to the crowd-favorite band, and that will be a spot on this year’s Black Sheep Fest happening on Saturday July 26th. The second award goes to a band chosen from a panel of judges, and that will be a free four song demo recorded at our very own South Town Studio. Good luck to all of the bands!

The whole thing is going to start at 7:00 pm and will cost $5 like a regular Black Sheep show. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out what else we have coming up at Black Sheep this summer on our shows page.
