Vegan Taste-Testing at Popeye’s BBQ July 19th

AR-307149940

More cool things are happening this summer in Southtown! Today we are excited to announce that our neighbors at Clay’s Popeye’s Barbecue (located 1121 South Grand Ave) will be hosting a special taste-testing on Saturday July 19th from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm (two weeks from today) for some new vegan recipes that they will be introducing to their menu. We have heard rumors that these new recipes were inspired by some of the vegan food that Apryl brought to share at Dumb Fest. For those of you who do not know, Popeye’s Barbecue is located right next door to Dumb Records. They are usually open from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm Tuesdays – Saturdays.

Check out the Clay’s Popeye’s BBQ website right here. We have also been told that there is a good chance new vegan option menu items will be debuting on Saturday, July 26th which happens to be the same day as Black Sheep Fest 2014.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Panzys, JAG, Howlback, Austin Connelly, Mystery Gift

whatthe

Happy Forth of July weekend everybody! As you can tell, we did not have a show at Black Sheep last night. Instead, we are just having one solid almost-all local show happening tonight. This should be a fun time. For this show we have Springfield’s youngest and rowdiest punk band, Panzys. Next up on the list is the power-trick-or-treat-indie band JAG. Don’t miss out on your chance to see them live in concert tonight. We also will be visited tonight by Peoria pop band, Howlback. Due to a slight lineup change tonight, we will have Austin Connelly playing in place of RDNT. Topping it all off there will be a performance by Mystery Gift.

The show tonight kicks off at 7:00 pm, and it’s 5 bands for $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep and Dumb Records.

Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: Los Injectors Live 2001

hpqscan0001

Looks like Springfield music and punk rock history blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored is at it again, this time with some live recordings of the NIL8-related project Los Injectors in 2001 performing at old Springfield venue On Broadway. From the post:

What we have here is a LIVE CD released by Springfield’s ONLY real-deal Rockabilly band, Los Injectors!!  This band formed back in 1998 with Matt Vanselow on vocals, Damon Soper on guitar, Jeff Cunningham on upright bass, and Chris Warren on drums.  I think I only saw these dudes perform once during their short lifespan.  They disbanded in 2001, so this recording captures one of the last shows the fellas ever performed.  This was recorded at On Broadway here in Springfield back on September 15, 2001.  MAG also performed that night, so Damon was pulling double-duty that evening as he played bass in MAG, as well.  Although Los Injectors was initially conceived as a Rockabilly band, their sound gradually grew more aggressive and heavier as they continued on, resulting in a unique sound and style all their own.

Check out the full post on Los Injectors at the Some Things Can’t Be Ignored site right here. You can check out that live set streaming on the player below. You might also remember a while back we posted about Los Injectors announcing some sort of reunion. Well guess what? Did you know that the band will be performing this Saturday night at Donnie’s Homespun? They will also be playing at this year’s Downhome Music Festival on August 2nd!

This Weekend In Urbana Illinois: AudioFeed 2014

Half Way To Black Sheep Band Lotto

Screen shot 2014-05-17 at 9.40.18 AM

Remember that fun Black Sheep Band Lotto thing we did back in May, where any volunteer could put their name into a box and then we drew bands at random from the box? The names were drawn at the end of this year’s Black Sheep Cover Show, and if you can believe it we are at the half way point between the names being drawn and the Band Lotto Show happening on Saturday, August 16th.

Now would be the time to start getting together with your band lotto band and start getting serious if you are one of the 53 names that are on that list above! We have a facebook event created for the band lotto show right here. Let us know about your band lotto progress there! And if your band lotto band isn’t going to be able to pull things off in time, shoot us an email at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and let us know. We are suggesting set lengths be 15-25 minutes, and that should include mostly original music (maybe one cover is okay). Good luck out there, and see you August 16th!
