Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: “The Timmys” (1999)

Springfield historic music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored have made a new update featuring a very rare and classic Springfield punk release- The Timmys‘ 1999 self-titled CD. This would have been released when The Timmys were only a couple of years old as a band. From Some Things Can’t Be Ignored:

Alright, folks…what we’ve got here is the FIRST full-length record ever released by Springfield’s second longest running punk band, the Timmys!!  This was recorded over quite a few months at Studio Media in Evanston, IL in 1999 and self-released by the fellas shortly thereafter.  Not many of these CDs were made as far as I can remember.  As soon as I managed to get to the next Timmys show after this came out, there weren’t any to be had.  A short run of home-burned copies were made, sold at shows and given out to friends and family, and that was about it, I think.  So…it’s pretty obvious that I’m SUPER excited about letting this local gem see the light of day again!!

Check out the full post right here, where you can download the album right here. The Timmys of course are still an active band, and they will be playing this year’s Hobgoblinspookadelic at Donnie’s Homespun.

In honor of Black Sheep recently turning nine years old and entering its tenth year of being an all ages venue in Springfield, we want to bring a new feature to the site that will highlight all of the important events and changes in the venue’s nearly-decade-long run. Today we are revealing the Black Sheep History page– a page where we tried listing off important events in Black Sheep history complete with photos and descriptions. Check out that new page right here. You can also go back and find the page any time hidden in the drop down bar under the “About” tab.

Thanks to all who were around for any of those 9+ years, and hopefully we can continue for many more. 2015 Black Sheep will turn 10 years old and it is also the Year Of The Sheep according to the zodiac calendar.

October 24th at Black Sheep: Black Sheep Halloween Show

halloweenshowprintIn our steady stream of October show announcements this week, we do have a little bit of bad news. The bad news is that we will not be hosting NIL8’s Hobgoblinspookadelic this year. Want to hear the good news? The good news is that we still have a killer Halloween show lined up, so it’s time to dust off those old costumes from your childhood and get ready for our Halloween show on Friday, October 24th! Our Halloween show will feature a reunion by the legendary Springfield ska band, Don’t Mess With Winkie. The band started in 2006 and played their last show at Black Sheep Fest 2012 over two years ago. They will be doing a one-off reunion show for our Halloween show this year. Also on the show is another reunited band, Los Injectors. Los Injectors features members of NIL8. Also on this show is the extra-spooky newer Springfield ska band, Bad Banshee. And of course a Halloween show wouldn’t be fit without the slimy and beautiful hardcore punk band King Worm.

The Halloween show will start at 7:00 pm and cost $5. Wear a costume. Be on the lookout for a facebook event shortly. For now, check out our shows page where we have all of our upcoming shows listed.
