Looks like we have little bit of a mixed genre show here, coming up quick on Thursday, August 4th just two days before the quickly approaching Black Sheep Fest. We have Providence, Rhode Island-based metal group “Absence of Despair” coming for us at Black Sheep. Check out one of their songs on that player streaming below. We also have a couple of local acts. One of these includes the hard metal band Abyss! Then opening things up we have the rock n’ roll outfit “Sammy & The Punk” mixing things up for us.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where you can find what else is coming up at Black Sheep these next few months.

August 21st at Black Sheep: Looming, Euriah, Vonne

It’s been a minute since we’ve gotten to say this, but here’s a show announcement featuring Looming! For those of you unfamiliar, Looming is an indie/punk band originally based out of Springfield that has had two of their four members move far across the country within the past six months. Last time they played a show here was… in March. Now they will be playing at Black Sheep at the end of a tour recently announced with Lemuria. The show will be happening on Sunday, August 21st. Sorry but Lemuria will not be playing the Springfield show. We do however have a good lineup aside from Looming featuring Champaign-Urbana’s own Euriah. Also on the bill is the recently name-changed band “Vonne” (we’ll let you guess what this band was formerly known as).

Mark your calendars for this one, this show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can check out a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what’s coming up this summer, we are updating things!

OPERATION DUMB ELEPHANT

2016-07-22.png

Okay, we’ll admit it we’ve had some pretty crazy ideas at Black Sheep and Dumb headquarters. We’ve had some pretty dumb ideas before too, but that’s okay. This one might be pretty crazy and also dumb, but we are moving forward with it! We are calling this one “Operation: Dumb Elephant.” That photo right up there ^^ isn’t 100% real just quite yet but it is the end goal of this operation. We are trying to work towards buying a giant fiberglass elephant to give a new home right next to Dumb Records on South Grand Avenue. We need your help though. It is looking like the elephant and trailer with the state it is currently in will cost us anywhere from $1,000 to $1,800 to purchase, repair, and paint.

From now until Saturday we will be collecting donations for this operation. You can drop those off inside Dumb Records (we will have a jar). We aren’t doing an online kickstarter or anything like that this time around. You can donate inside Dumb Records, or paypal us to our account at dumbrecs@gmail.com. If you are looking for a little gift in exchange for a donation, we will be printing *exclusive* elephant tees, and taking pre-orders for those over the next six days in exchange for donations of $15. We can also ship the tees for those of you outside of Springfield. Find the link to those RIGHT HERE. Check out a pic of those below!

Videos: Statues of the Dead at Black Sheep 7-9-16

13613686_10101537292520638_7671602300646530558_o.jpg

Today we are bringing you a video of what was one of the most anticipated sets at this year’s Black Sheep Battle of the Bands which happened a couple of weekends ago. That would be Statues of the Dead – a new group featuring members of Say Something and also a five year old rocker. Statues of the Dead were not the winner in either of the voting categories, but they did get a great response from the crowd. You can see our Battle of the Bands recap post right here. Check out that video below. Also be on the lookout for another Statues of the Dead show being announced really soon.

Check out our vids/pics page for more videos taken at Black Sheep over the past 10+ years.

Tonight at Black Sheep: HOUND, Livin’ Thing, Undone, Chili Mac

houndweb

We are excited for this one tonight. We’ve had a couple of last minute lineup changes but looks like what we’ve ended up with tonight is still one solid rock show happening for you all. Tonight we have the mighty HOUND coming from Philadelphia to rock our socks off (featuring members of Bad Side and Ted Leo & The Pharmacists). Check out some of their music playing below. We also have the out of control hardcore bar band, Livin’ Thing shaking things up tonight. What will those boys come up with this time? We also have a last minute switchup to the lineup- and that is now Undone is playing in place of Copper Blue who are unable to make it. Opening things up is a new Springfield project called “Chili Mac”, also just performing as a two-piece tonight because things didn’t go exactly as planned. Everything should still be great though!

The show tonight starts at 7:00 pm. Bring $6 for the show! Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a complete list of everything coming up at Black Sheep the next couple of months.

August 24th at Black Sheep: Selector Dub Narcotic, Epsom, SAP

13698267_10209518277741552_8966160039034333728_o.jpg

Time for another exciting show announcement. On Wednesday, August 24th we have a special guest coming to perform at Black Sheep, and that isCalvin_Johnson. Calvin Johnson (founder of influential Olympia-based indie label K Records, and also various bands and projects such as Beat Happening) is making a return to The Black Sheep as Selector Dub Narcotic. Calvin performed a solo set at Black Sheep here last in 2009, close to seven years ago. Check out what Selector Dub Narcotic’s all about on the video embedded below. Also on this show is the “acid-reflux” rock band from Springfield, Epsom. And then opening things up we have a performance by our very own SAP. It’s a three band show, and that’s it!

This one will kick off at 7:00 pm and admission this time around is $6. You can find a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where you can see what all is coming up at Black Sheep these next few months.

Tonight at South Town Studio: Black Bloc, Gazeebo, Ceiling Lust, Emasculate Regression, Invertabit, Citizen 2-13

DFflier

There are no shows happening tonight at Black Sheep, but we do happen to have this now six-act noise show happening up in South Town Studio. Sounds like there will be tacos for in exchange for donations for the touring acts starting at 7:00 pm tonight, and the true noise will kick off at 8:00 pm. For this one we have noise/drone project Black Bloc coming from New York. You can stream a track from that project on the player embedded below. Then we have three local acts, including a rare set from the Springfield noise project Gazeebo. We also have the newer industrial project Ceiling Lust, and opening things up looks like we have Emasculate Regression. In addition to this, since the show was announced a couple of bands have been added. Those are Invertabit and Citizen 2-13 from Wisconsin.

This show will be kicking off at 8:00 pm, looks like there might be food available a little before then- but bring donations if you want to eat! Donations be likely taken for the touring act as well. Check out our shows page for a list of upcoming shows at Black Sheep and in Southtown.
