Black Sheep Fest 2016 TODAY!

Here we are with one of our biggest ‘hoorah’s of the summer, and the longest running festival happening every year at Black Sheep. That’s right it’s Black Sheep Fest! Happening today starting at 2:00 pm, this will be our ninth Black Sheep Fest yet with our first starting in 2008. We have a great lineup of bands planned for today, and maybe even a rumor of an unofficial aftershow happening behind us up in South Town Studio. Let’s check out that lineup and scheduled times right now:

That’s right, the lineup includes a few twists and surprises. We have our big Battle of the Bands winner, Stems going on at 7:40. We will also be attempting to break our record for largest record of the night at 7:00 pm. We will also have Black Sheep Fest t-shirts for sale for $10, and if you are hungry Popeye’s Barbeque will be open most of the day next door. Dumb Records of course will be open all day during the fest, also next door.

New Arrivals This Week at Dumb Records

We don’t have a whole lot of new arrivals this week at Dumb Records (1107 South Grand E. Ave.), and we are sorry we are getting this list to you a few days late! We have been hard at work saving up funds for Operation: Dumb Elephant. It is not too late to donate to our cause, and even get a limited t-shirt while you do it! We do have a few used records coming in to Dumb Records this week, and also a handful of used CDs. Be sure to check out the shop during Black Sheep Fest on Saturday! Show Tonight at Black Sheep: Cancelled

Whoops! Looks like the show we had previously planned at Black Sheep tonight is now cancelled. Absence of Despair, Abyss, and Sammy & The Punk will no longer be playing tonight.

Tonight at Black Sheep: Blank Spell, Moondead, GRINN, Undone

It’s Monday, and it may be the beginning of the week but we are going to be hosting a killer punk show at Black Sheep tonight. Tonight we have the band Blank Spell coming from Philadephia on the way to a big tour with the indie band Deerhoof (Deerhoof will not be playing tonight). You can check out Blank Spell’s newest demo below. Also playing tonight is the three-piece talented punk band Moondead from right here in Springfield. Then we have a rare performance by GRINN, playing a return show of sorts. And opening things up is the newer Springfield punk band “Undone” featuring members of Garter, Green Messiah, and GUSH.

Black Sheep Fest One Week Away, Set Times

Oh snap it looks like we are already to the final week before Black Sheep Fest– our annual fest that comes every year at the end of the summer. This is the ninth year we have done the festival and we are more excited about this year’s lineup than ever. Today we are coming at ya with the proposed set times (these are subject to change)! Check those out below:

As you can see, the festival will be kicking off promptly at 2:00 pm this year. Don’t be late! We recommend seeing every single band. We will also be attempting to break the record for world’s largest record of the night™ pic at 7:00. We will also have t-shirts for the fest, so bring an extra $10 for those! We will reveal the winner of our t-shirt contest at the fest.

August 22nd at Black Sheep: Anybody But The Cops, Liz Panella, Mark Plant, Shark Week

We got a pretty dreamy show happening here on Monday, August 22nd here at Black Sheep. First off at the top of the bill we have “Anybody But The Cops” from Kalamazoo, Michigan playing some type of “jazz punk” or something or other. You can check out some of their music streaming on the player below. Then we have a couple of familiar solo projects coming from Chicago. We have Liz Panella of the band Earth Girls. Earth Girls performed here for Dumb Fest 3-D a little over one year ago. We also have Mark Plant of the bands Military Police and Broken Prayer (both have also played at Black Sheep). Opening things up we have Springfield surf and slide band Shark Week.

Tours: Our Lady

Yesterday we told you about the Our Lady LP release show for their new album called Lure on Friday, August 19th at Black Sheep. Well guess what, that show is also going to be a kick-off for a two-week tour that Our Lady will be going on in support of the new album. Tonight at Black Sheep: Menthol, Pryss, HUSH, Shark Week

Tonight is the only show happening at Black Sheep this weekend (there is Downhome Music Festival happening tonight and tomorrow night downtown). There have been a few changes and additions to the lineup tonight since it was first announced. Let’s take a look at what we have going on now. We still have the touring punk act from North Carolina- Menthol on the bill. Stream some new music of theirs on the player below. Sadly, The Brain who they were touring with had to drop. We will have punk/hardcore band Pryss on board. Then we have a couple of additions. We have Chicago/Champaign supergroup hardcore band HUSH making a return since playing Dumb Fest 4-Ever. Then opening things up we have the groovy and sweet Shark Week!

Mario Cannamela: “Bottom Bracket”

Local sweetheart birthday boy superstar Mario Cannamela (Wir Können, Livin’ Thing, Dry Heave) released some sort of a new song earlier this month and we’ve been meaning to tell you about it (whoops)! This is a new project (we think?) possibly being called “Roman Candle Drive By,” but we are not too sure. The one song that was released is called “Bottom Bracket” and you can find it streaming below. This is also one of the last things Brandon Carnes helped record up in South Town Studio before leaving to Pittsburg. Check out the song on bandcamp to download it at your own price.

We don’t think Mario has any shows lined up as this new project, but he will be playing a solo set on September 18th at Black Sheep. Happy birthday Mario.

August 19th at Black Sheep: Our Lady “Lure” Release Show

We have a lot of big shows coming up this August. Last night we just told you that Looming will be playing for the first time at Black Sheep since March, and we also have Selector Dub Narcotic from Olympia, Washington coming around that same time. Today we are letting you know that Our Lady‘s long awaited new album will be coming out with a special release show on Friday, August 19th in just less than one month. The new album is called Lure and it is being released by Mayfly Records. You can stream one of the songs “The Fox” off of the record right here, or also below. None of the other acts for this show have been announced yet, you can expect that info soon.
