We got a pretty dreamy show happening here on Monday, August 22nd here at Black Sheep. First off at the top of the bill we have “Anybody But The Cops” from Kalamazoo, Michigan playing some type of “jazz punk” or something or other. You can check out some of their music streaming on the player below. Then we have a couple of familiar solo projects coming from Chicago. We have Liz Panella of the band Earth Girls. Earth Girls performed here for Dumb Fest 3-D a little over one year ago. We also have Mark Plant of the bands Military Police and Broken Prayer (both have also played at Black Sheep). Opening things up we have Springfield surf and slide band Shark Week.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else will be coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

Tonight is the only show happening at Black Sheep this weekend (there is Downhome Music Festival happening tonight and tomorrow night downtown). There have been a few changes and additions to the lineup tonight since it was first announced. Let’s take a look at what we have going on now. We still have the touring punk act from North Carolina- Menthol on the bill. Stream some new music of theirs on the player below. Sadly, The Brain who they were touring with had to drop. We will have punk/hardcore band Pryss on board. Then we have a couple of additions. We have Chicago/Champaign supergroup hardcore band HUSH making a return since playing Dumb Fest 4-Ever. Then opening things up we have the groovy and sweet Shark Week!

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what is coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

Mario Cannamela: “Bottom Bracket”

a1364766016_10.jpg

Local sweetheart birthday boy superstar Mario Cannamela (Wir Können, Livin’ Thing, Dry Heave) released some sort of a new song earlier this month and we’ve been meaning to tell you about it (whoops)! This is a new project (we think?) possibly being called “Roman Candle Drive By,” but we are not too sure. The one song that was released is called “Bottom Bracket” and you can find it streaming below. This is also one of the last things Brandon Carnes helped record up in South Town Studio before leaving to Pittsburg. Check out the song on bandcamp to download it at your own price.

We don’t think Mario has any shows lined up as this new project, but he will be playing a solo set on September 18th at Black Sheep. Happy birthday Mario.

August 19th at Black Sheep: Our Lady “Lure” Release Show

13724057_1294568790573010_3907737140459266152_o.jpgWe have a lot of big shows coming up this August. Last night we just told you that Looming will be playing for the first time at Black Sheep since March, and we also have Selector Dub Narcotic from Olympia, Washington coming around that same time. Today we are letting you know that Our Lady‘s long awaited new album will be coming out with a special release show on Friday, August 19th in just less than one month. The new album is called Lure and it is being released by Mayfly Records. You can stream one of the songs “The Fox” off of the record right here, or also below. None of the other acts for this show have been announced yet, you can expect that info soon.

We are assuming (not 100% yet!) that this show will start at 7:00 pm and admission will be $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep in the next few months.

13719553_1449070001779692_4634485261069000001_o.jpg

Looks like we have little bit of a mixed genre show here, coming up quick on Thursday, August 4th just two days before the quickly approaching Black Sheep Fest. We have Providence, Rhode Island-based metal group “Absence of Despair” coming for us at Black Sheep. Check out one of their songs on that player streaming below. We also have a couple of local acts. One of these includes the hard metal band Abyss! Then opening things up we have the rock n’ roll outfit “Sammy & The Punk” mixing things up for us.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where you can find what else is coming up at Black Sheep these next few months.

August 21st at Black Sheep: Looming, Euriah, Vonne

13322074_978698862250128_197642729101272996_n.jpg

It’s been a minute since we’ve gotten to say this, but here’s a show announcement featuring Looming! For those of you unfamiliar, Looming is an indie/punk band originally based out of Springfield that has had two of their four members move far across the country within the past six months. Last time they played a show here was… in March. Now they will be playing at Black Sheep at the end of a tour recently announced with Lemuria. The show will be happening on Sunday, August 21st. Sorry but Lemuria will not be playing the Springfield show. We do however have a good lineup aside from Looming featuring Champaign-Urbana’s own Euriah. Also on the bill is the recently name-changed band “Vonne” (we’ll let you guess what this band was formerly known as).

Mark your calendars for this one, this show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can check out a facebook event for this show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what’s coming up this summer, we are updating things!

OPERATION DUMB ELEPHANT

2016-07-22.png

Okay, we’ll admit it we’ve had some pretty crazy ideas at Black Sheep and Dumb headquarters. We’ve had some pretty dumb ideas before too, but that’s okay. This one might be pretty crazy and also dumb, but we are moving forward with it! We are calling this one “Operation: Dumb Elephant.” That photo right up there ^^ isn’t 100% real just quite yet but it is the end goal of this operation. We are trying to work towards buying a giant fiberglass elephant to give a new home right next to Dumb Records on South Grand Avenue. We need your help though. It is looking like the elephant and trailer with the state it is currently in will cost us anywhere from $1,000 to $1,800 to purchase, repair, and paint.

From now until Saturday we will be collecting donations for this operation. You can drop those off inside Dumb Records (we will have a jar). We aren’t doing an online kickstarter or anything like that this time around. You can donate inside Dumb Records, or paypal us to our account at dumbrecs@gmail.com. If you are looking for a little gift in exchange for a donation, we will be printing *exclusive* elephant tees, and taking pre-orders for those over the next six days in exchange for donations of $15. We can also ship the tees for those of you outside of Springfield. Find the link to those RIGHT HERE. Check out a pic of those below!
