Dumb Records at White Oaks Mall on Monday, December 19th

unnamed.jpg

What do you know! It looks like Dumb Records will be making a return to the mall this holiday season for one day only as a pop up show on Monday, December 19th. Last year was Dumb’s first time setting up in the mall and we had a fun time with Santa (record of the night photo shown above). This year Dumb Records will have a very similar set up in the lower level of the mall next to Santa and near the carousel. You can find the pop up shop there the full day – the mall is open then from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Come do some holiday shopping if you so wish. The setup will likely include vinyl, gift cards, and we will also be spinning records on a player provided by Sundown One who sells higher end audio equipment and more on 4685 Wabash Avenue.

Dumb’s regular location of 1107 South Grand will be closed this day, but is still open every other day noon to 8:00 pm.

Our friends over at Springfield house venue The Radon Lounge are once again throwing their big annual “Christmas Explosion” and this time we don’t have anything planned that night at Black Sheep so we can all make it out. The Christmas Explosion this year is this upcoming Friday the 16th and it will also be a celebration of five years of The Radon Lounge putting on shows in Springfield. We have our Ugly Christmas Sweater show happening the next day on the 17th and the Black Sheep Holiday Show happening the following week on Friday the 23rd. The lineup for The Radon Lounge’s Christmas Explosion this year features Timbre – the Harpist from Nashville returning to The Radon Lounge. Check out some of her music streaming on the player below. Also on this show is the shoegaze act from Lincoln, Illinois also familiar to the Radon – Hushpad. Also is the folk duo The Dandelion Pickers. We have also be told that the Springfield “Uketopians” will be closing out the night with some Christmas Ukulele tunes.

With this show being at The Radon Lounge, you can also expect some food and hot chocolate and arcade games of some sort. Things kick off over there at 6:00 pm and admission is $5. If you don’t know where the Radon Lounge is you can inquire on their website. Also find a facebook event for this one right here. Check out our Springfield shows page for a look at more shows outside of Black Sheep.

The end of the year 2016 is finally coming, which means you can expect an announcement for New Years plans from us soon, and we are also starting to get together our 2016 local music year-end poll. Today is Friday which means that another episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show will be airing. It’s also a rare Friday without any shows going on at Black Sheep! Today on the show we have not one but TWO great guests lined up. The first guest of the show is going to be new communications manager from the Lincoln Library downtown – Elizabeth Buchta. Elizabeth will be talking to us about new music events being put on inside the library as well as SAME FEST celebrating ethnic diversity in Springfield happening there in late January. Our second guest is Johari Osayi who helped us put together our successful “Resilience” event at Black Sheep this past weekend, and who is also involved in putting together poetry and story telling nights recently at William Vans coffee shop.

Tune in from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm to hear this week’s episode! Also stream on wqna.net. Of course we will be playing all of your favorite local tunes as well as music from bands coming to town. Check out our radio page for a few episodes from the past that you can download.

One of them is touring from Alabama, and that is Joyboy from Birmingham. Check out their music streaming on the player below. This will be a good mixed genre show as we have Vonne also on the bill playing their feel good pop music. Up before that is a brand new Bloomington/Normal project called BITE, and opening things up looks like we have the mean and nasty angry hardcore band GRINN from Springfield.

All of this kicks off tonight at 7:00 pm. Don’t let the cold weather deter you from going, things will be cozy warm inside of Black Sheep! Admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where you can see what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the coming weeks.
