Tonight at Bread Slippers: Big Loser, The Telephone Junkies, Dexter

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! You know what, tonight there is a show at Bread Slippers and we are just gonna go ahead and say that moms get in for free tonight, why not. Tonight we have touring band “Big Loser” from Austin, Texas – which formerly was known as the group “Free Kittens And Bread” and had played at Black Sheep twice in the past under that name. We welcome this act under the new name under our new venue into the future. Stream some of their music below. This show did have a last minute cancellation and that was Loverboard, whoops! The Telephone Junkies are still on board and playing their first show at the new Bread Slippers! Opening things up is Dexter!

Pop Up Stage Saturday (Tomorrow) Morning For Fat Ass 5K Outside of Dumb Records

Wow there is so much going on here downtown we can hardly keep up! This weekend there is the Fat Ass 5k happening throughout downtown, starting tonight with live music on 7th street and then tomorrow with a big morning run. After having The Complaint Line play outside in our alley for Downtown Open Streets last weekend, we are up to keep going with outdoor performances outside of our store and have the opportunity to continue that tomorrow with the Fat Ass 5k run! So we are teaming up with Midwest Connectz for another “pop-up stage” this time will be directly in front of our store on the edge of the street tomorrow morning from 10:00 to 11:00 am! Performers lined up include Clutch, Alexa Redd, and Shon The Greatest. We’ll also be open (maybe a little bit early… let’s say 9:30 am) and will likely have coffee and donuts in our store.

Deezy Da Paperboy + Cornbread: “Check A Bag”

Today we are bringing you brand new Springfield music with some more local hip hop here. This one is a song featuring long time local rappers Deezy Da Paperboy and Cornbread. The song is called “Check A Bag” and comes from an upcoming mixtape being put together by the artists called Kush & Kollabs. Check out the song streaming on the player below.

Both Cornbread and Deezy Da Paperboy will be performing their own separate sets at the first hip hop show at the new Bread Stretchers which we haven’t officially announced yet on Friday, May 31st. Be on the lookout for the announcement for that soon.

SJ-R: “Weekly Y-Block Concert Series To Begin May 30”

There is an article in today’s local paper The State Journal-Register about the big Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series announcement. The article is titled “Weekly Y-Block Concert Series To Begin May 30th” found in the Local section of this Wednesday’s paper, also online right here. From the article:

The Skatalites, one of Jamaica’s original heavy-hitting ska and reggae bands, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Fareed Haque headline the Levitt AMP Springfield Music Series on the Y-block in downtown Springfield on Thursday evenings from May 30th to Aug. 1. The series’ musical styles run the gamut, with artists offering up beebop jazz, soul, traditional Celtic, classical and roots-rock.

The full list of ten concerts has been announced, which you can find a list of on our site right here. Dumb Records is on as a main sponsor for the Thursday, June 6th featuring the one and only Skatalites from Jamaica, which is already less than one month away.

Audiofeed Music Festival Volume 7 Happening July 4-6th in Urbana, Illinois

Trying to stay in the loop with all of the music festivals happening here in town and Central Illinois this summer! A festival whose lineup was recently announced and started in Central Illinois the same time that Dumb Fest did (which would have also been on its seventh year), is Audiofeed Music Festival which takes place at the fairgrounds in Urbana, Illinois each year. This year “Volume 07” of the festival is taking place from Thursday July 4th through Saturday July 6th. The poster is above, although there are so many bands listed there that you might have trouble reading them. You can find a close-up and probably more readable version of the poster on the Audiofeed website right here. You can also find ticket info and more FAQ’s on the Audiofeed website. We find it worth mentioning that our friends over at The Radon Lounge are some of the many people involved in setting up this festival every year.

May Issue of Activator Available At Dumb Records

May is here! Actually, we are already one week into May (happy tornado Tuesday btw), and guess what we have the latest issue of local music magazine Activator Magazine for all of you fans of printed content that you can hold in your hands and read. This is the twelfth issue the magazine has put out since they began with their first issue of June of last year. Have you collected them all?

On the cover of this month’s issue is non-local musician Tav Falco – Tav Falco’s Panther Burns will be performing here in Springfield across the street from us at Bar None on Thursday, May 23rd. Also included is an interview with Bloomington, IL electronic/indie act Black Esther, plus plenty of album reviews, photos, and shows calendars for Central Illinois and St. Louis. There’s a review and in-depth look at “Flor Fest” which took place in Urbana last month, and Mansion Music Fest which is coming up this month in Virden, Illinois. Also an interview with Central Illinois metal band Portals, and more interviews with local artists Kid Ziggy, Papa Luke, Izhi & Danny J. All Levitt AMP Music Series Dates Announced (May 30th – August 1st)

A lot of you have been very curious as to what the city of Springfield winning a $25,000 grant through the Levitt AMP Foundation would lead to and after a lot of waiting and anticipation the dates for all ten concerts that are set to take place on the Y-Block downtown this summer have been announced. These will be happening Thursday nights from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at 4th and Jackson Streets downtown (very close to our new location). At this point all of the dates have been released as facebook events posted from the Levitt AMP Springfield facebook page. Here are all of them listed out:

Getting back on track with all of the new local music that’s been coming out lately! And there is a lot to keep up with when it comes up with local hip hop here in Springfield in the year 2019. Here is a brand new ten track album which dropped last month from local rapper Ty Witty called “For When It Rains…” which you can find streaming on the player below in it’s entirety. You can also head on over to Ty Witty’s bandcamp page where you can download the full album at your own price. Ty doesn’t have any local gigs lined up as far as we can tell.

June 18th at Bread Stretchers: Double Grave, The Cult Of Lip, The Telephone Junkies, Nectar

Wow, are you ready for this? Happy Monday by the way. Here is another show coming up at Bread Stretchers – we are moving into the June show announcements with this one happening on Tuesday, June 18th. For this we have the return of Double Grave to Springfield from Minneapolis! The band had played at Black Sheep last year. This time they are bringing another band called “The Cult of Lip” with them! Stream some of The Cult of Lip’s music on the player below. For this show we also have Nectar performing for the first time at Bread Stretchers (they also performed at Black Sheep last time Double Grave was in town). Opening things up is The Telephone Junkies! (who are also playing our next show here on the 12th).
