It’s getting harder and harder for us to keep up with all of these March show announcements! It seems like there is more than one popping up a day at this point! This show is happening on Saturday, March 12th. This show will feature Springfield emo rockers Wir Können (how nice). The one out of town band we have on this bill is the band Fourside from Bloomington/Normal. You can stream one of their tracks on the player below. We also have the three-piece newer Springfield punk band Moondead, which features members of previous bands Bad Banshee, Garter, and Wilt Candy. Opening things up we have locals, The Locals playing some nice and friendly pop rock music.

The show here will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a better look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the next few months.

Kharybdis: “Era of Deception” EP

It looks like Springfield metalcore band Kharybdis are back in action and have released a brand new 6 track EP entitled Era of Deception online. You can stream the six-track EP on the player below. The EP can also be purchased for download on Karybdis’s bandcamp page. From the band’s bandcamp page:

We traveled to Cleveland, Ohio with only 9 days in total to record this EP, may or may not re-release in the future with better mix. This is was each of our first times in a studio and also our first release as a band. Some may recognize a few of the songs as we have been playing them for 3 years now! Thanks for listening! Share with your friends, spread the word!

It does not look like Kharybdis has any live shows lined up right now, but we will be sure to keep you all updated on any Black Sheep shows in the near future!

There sure are a lot of shows being lined up at Black Sheep this spring. We are starting to overflow and burst at the seams! This is a show happening here on Saturday, March 5th. It is going to be a hoot. For this show we have Indianapolis based band Mr. Clit & The Pink Cigarettes who are no strangers to Black Sheep or Springfield in general. The band brings that rock n’ roll goodness that you all crave with that tinge of punk and bright hair coloring. Check out some of their music streaming below. We also have their good friends and Springfield experimental rock band Boon on the bill. Before that is something interesting and that is Slave Cable- a newer St. Louis noise project featuring members of Animal Teeth. Opening things up for the night we have the wild and reckless noise band TANG.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and $5 just like all of the other good old fashioned punk shows. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a list of more shows coming up at Black Sheep this spring.

2-6 Black Sheep Roundtable Meeting Recap

tumblr_o25rpydCz91sj9f9fo1_1280

Last Saturday, on February 6th we hosted the first Black Sheep roundtable meeting that we have had in a while. The meeting was completely open to anyone wishing to attend, discuss ideas or just sit in and listen. A lot of great ideas came up at the meeting as far as things we can do to get more people out to shows and better utilize our space. Here are some key points that were brought up:

  • A “get involed” zine is currently in the works to better map out how our space works and things that you can do to get involved and help us run it.
  • Wednesday yard crews are going to start back up, lead by BJ Pearce. The first one of the year is happening March 2nd!
  • A lot was discussed on the topic of having non-musical events at Black Sheep. We are open to game nights, hang outs, theater/play performances or anything else! A game night has been scheduled for March 16th.
  • We also discussed the topic of show goers feeling unwelcome at our space. We talked about the idea of hanging up a sign that explains what a “safe space” means to us. And as Devon says, “Leave your dirt at home!”

For a more in-depth look at meeting notes, check out this long doc on facebook. We also agreed to have our roundtable meetings from here on out on a quarterly basis, meaning we will be having four each year. Our next meeting will be some point in late May or early June as we approach the big Dumb Fest 4-Ever. Check out our get involved page for more ways you can get involved with our community and notes on when the next meeting will be.

Here’s a pretty cool lookin’ show happening at Black Sheep on Monday, March 7th! How about it. For this show it looks like we have the band Rik & The Pigs coming all the way from Portland, Oregon. That band shares members of G.L.O.S.S. and Mongoloid, both who have played at Black Sheep in the past. Stream some of Rik & The Pigs’ music on the player below. Also on the bill we have Springfield grunge punk band SAP who just played a show here last night! How neat! Then opening things up it’s a… it’s a Livin’ Thing! Livin’ Thing is a new Springfield band featuring members of Soap Scum, King Worm, and GUSH. Oh yeah, we know the flier for this says Torch Runner will be playing but it looks like that will not actually be happening as we had a little mix up with dates.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep this spring.

A new up and coming teen superstar from our area Devin Hayes has released a new music video for his hit single “We’re Worth It.” You can check out that video right here on youtube or stream it on the player below. Devin Hayes is a junior at Athens High School and he has gained local buzz when he was the opening act along with Kalin & Myles and Laura Marano for Austin Mahone at last year’s Illinois State Fair. Devin doesn’t have any Springfield live shows lineup up, but you can find more of him on his youtube page and twitter.
