Let’s get a little bit back on track with videos in the new show spot next door to us. Today we are bringing you a video of the Omaha Nebraska hardcore band Jocko performing here a little over a week ago on July 6th. The video is of the band performing their song “Jungle of Stone” and you can check it out on the player below.

Also head over to our vids/pics page for a list of local and touring band videos (still mostly at Black Sheep) over the years. Or check out our youtube channel.

Vincent Sebastian: “Interference”

a1326921504_10.jpg

Happy Sunday! We are taking things a little slow today over here at the office since we just got done with three nights with three great shows back-to-back-to-back at Dumb headquarters, so excuse us coming in late with some website posts today. A week or so ago Springfield/Chicago musician Vincent Sebastian released a debut full length album, Interference, around the same time he performed at the show at our space with Jocko and others. We are finally getting that album here streaming on our site today. If you haven’t listened yet, you can stream it on the player below – it’s great. You can also head over to Vincent Sebastian’s bandcamp page to purchase the download of the album.

Vincent doesn’t have any other shows lined up at our space that we know of as of right now. Keep your eyes and ears out for them in the future. Yes you can check this one out on our Springfield album archive page as well. We are at 451 released listed on that page.

Tonight at Bread Sheep: Tim Buchanan, The Dixie Narcos, Father Talljasper, Adam Maletich

timbuchananflier_web

Here we are at the end of our run of three shows back-to-back-to-back at Bread Sheep this weekend with this good psychedelic/folk show happening tonight. It features touring artist Tim Buchanan – who was actually a member of Oklahoma hardcore band American Hate who had played Black Sheep a few times. Tim’s solo material is nothing like American Hate, and you can stream it on the player below. Also on this show is psychedelic rock group “The Dixie Narcos” from Jacksonville, that rarely ever play live. What a treat to have them on. Then also there is a newer group from some town we know nothing about called Canton, Illinois. The band is “Father Talljasper” and they also play some indie rock stuff. Opening things up is local solo acoustic artist Adam Maletich.

Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Admission is $6.00 this time around and things kick off at 7:00 pm. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a look at what else is coming up at Bread Sheep.

Today on The Dumb Records Radio Show: Lori Kiel (White Oaks Mall)

todayonourprogram.jpg

It’s another Friday and we are keeping the ball rolling with some solid guests lined up on our radio program! Last week we had a great time chatting with Tim Smith about the upcoming Abe Fest going on next weekend downtown. We actually got a “Mix Cloud” page up and rolling so that we can start posting old recorded episodes! Check that out right here. This week, after being curious about what’s going on with a concert series in the White Oaks Mall food court – we reached out to the mall directly about someone coming in to talk to us on their behalf. So today as our guest we have Marketing and Business Development Director Lori Kiel coming in to talk with us! Wow! Lori will be talking with us about the Friday evening concert series they have going on now through the end of September. Tonight’s series actually includes Dexter Anodyne and Caleb Coppinger, and starts at 6:30pm out at the mall food court.

You can tune in to our radio program at 4:00 pm today and every Friday – from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA FM. Also stream the show during the same time online at wqnaradio.org.

Tonight at Bread Sheep: Kate The Band, Best Sleep, Sadface Killer, Flunkie

Happy Friday everyone, T.G.I.F.! We are right in the middle of a three day show back-to-back-to-back streak with a very solid indie rock show happening tonight. This show features full band “Kate The Band” – you know it’s good based on these two songs we streamed on our site last month. The touring act on this bill is “Best Sleep” from Fort Wayne, Indiana. You can stream their music on the player embedded below. Then we have the first “Bread Sheep” performance of Peoria and Springfield based emo band Sadface Killer. They are a good band and released their debut full length album Domino Line earlier this year. Opening things up is the local solo project – Flunkie.

This show will start at 7:00 pm regular showtime and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at Bread Sheep in the near future.

Levitt AMP Springfield Tonight: Dirty Dozen Brass Band

DirtyDozen-2.jpg

We may have a big punk/hardcore show at Bread Stretchers tonight – but did you also know there is a big free concert going on right through the alley tonight as well as part of the Levitt AMP Springfield Concert Series. This is concert number 6 out of 10 free concerts – just 3 more after this! Tonight is a big concert for the series – The Dirty Dozen Brass Band from New Orleans is making a grand appearance! Here’s a description from the Levitt AMP Springfield page:

Celebrating more than 40 years since their 1977 founding, New Orleans-based Dirty Dozen Brass Band is a one-of-a-kind experience that the band describes as a ‘musical gumbo.’ The term ‘gumbo is appropriate because—much like the traditional local dish—Dirty Dozen Brass Band seamlessly brings together musical influences across jazz, big band swing, funk and soul to create an electrifying experience that feels like an instant party. The core of their sound is classic New Orleans jazz and swing, which they developed as young musicians playing in churches and the local club circuit in New Orleans itself.

The free concert out on the lawn tonight (and that’s the lawn directly in front of the Governor’s Mansion in between 4th and 5th streets) starts at 6:00 pm and goes until 8:30 pm. There is an opening act and that is local jazz musician Frank Parker.

If you want to see what other Levitt AMP concerts are coming up on the block or learn more, check out their website right here. Find a facebook event for tonight’s concert right here.

Tonight at Dumb Stretchers: Slüsk, Deadbeat, Blushe, Schedule One, Black Box

Tonight kicks off a run of three shows we have lined up back-to-back-to-back in our space tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday nights. They are all good shows. Tonight we have a pretty good punk show lined up. We have a band from Columbia, Missouri called Slüsk. You just might want to check them out on the player below. We also have a punk band from Omaha, Nebraska coming through. They are called Deadbeat. Who do we have for locals on this show? A new favorite band for a lot of people from right here in Springfield – Blushe is playing. The psychadelic / noise project “Schedule One” will also be playing. And opening things up is the first show of a brand new local band… called “Black Box”. Be sure to show up on time to enjoy and experience it all.

That all starts tonight at 7:00 pm and admission is $5-7. Check out a facebook event for that one right here. Be sure to check out our shows page for a nice full list of everything coming up at Brad’s Stretchers in the near future.

July 26th & 27th at Bread Sheep: Midnight CD Release / Downhome Music Festival Aftershows

downhomeaftershow4.jpg

Get ready because this evening we are going to throw a lot at you for some surprise shows happening at our space later this month. This is a joint announcement for TWO shows happening at our space – BOTH are aftershows for Downhome Music Festival on July 26th and 27th, BOTH are happening right at midnight (crazy, we know), and BOTH are CD release shows for two different local artists. This is just getting too wild. Let’s break it down for each show:

The first night of Downhome Music Festival is Friday, July 26th. There will be a show at our space at midnight that night It will be a CD release show for Dexter‘s new album Weeping Venus. We are excited. You can check out the first song from that album right here. Also playing is Jeff Williams of NIL8. That show is just $3 and it’s all ages of course.

Then the next night is Saturday, July 27th (yes we are aware since we are talking midnight here it would technically be the 28th). For this one we have local grunge rockers Master Bastard‘s CD release for their new album which we have been told is being called Drinking With Children. Also on that show is Taylorville 90’s rock group Stick People, and the brand brand new surf band that’s been making splashes, Snuff Rider. Another $3, all ages show!

Both of those shows are starting right at midnight, both are all ages, and both are $3. We’ll be getting facebook events up for both of those right away. Oh, and no beer in our space for any of those. Sorry. Check out our shows page to see what else is coming up at our space this summer.
