Halloween is on a Thursday night this year. We have a full lineup of bands. At the top of the bill is punky punk act Foam Fangers from right here from our city’s very own dumpsters. And before that we’ve got the solo project based out of Decatur, Marble Teeth. Spooky! Opening things up is the absolutely terrifying, the completely ghoulish act from here and Peoria, Sadface Killer!

Today On The Dumb Records Radio Show: Josh Flanders (Buzz Bomb Brewing Co.)

buzzbombradionow.jpg

It’s Friday, so that means yet another episode of The Dumb Records Radio Show is going on air at 4:00 pm! Who do we have behind the magic door this time? Looks like it’s Josh Flanders, representing our neighboring business Buzz Bomb Brewing Company! Buzz Bomb has been throwing shows over at their location on Adams Street for the past couple of years and they are gearing up for a big “Oktoberfest” this weekend, which will be outdoors and feature heavy hitting punk band NIL8, and also rockabilly act Twistin’ Tarantulas from the Detroit area. We will be talking to Josh about the festival coming up as well as anything else that’s been going on over at Buzz Bomb!

The Dumb Records Radio Show airs today and every Friday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA FM. You can also listen online at the same time at wqnaradio.org. Also check out our Mixcloud page where we’ve got all recent episodes recorded and streaming for free online!

Tonight at Dumb Records: Greenhouse Opera, Idle Oath, Skyler Duncan

Happy fall, everybody. It’s fall outside. And October, and this is our first show in October happening tonight!! It’s an indie-rocker of sorts. First off, we had the opening act drop off, so we only have three acts lined up for tonight. Things will likely start at 7:20pm on the dot because of this change. So now starting things is going to be Skyler Duncan – the mythical / legendary futuristic prog-rock ambient trio that’s been making some sort of splash in town? Headlining the bill is Greenhouse Opera – the new full band project of Dexter Anodyne, who has played at our space plenty of times. And right in the middle there we have a newer local duo called Idle Oath that we are excited about! Stream their music on the player below!

This show starts at 7:20 pm now, and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for the show right here. Also check out our shows page to check out what else is lined up at our place in the near future!

October 17th at Dumb Records: Black Box, Night Witch, Foam Fangers, Grinn

Hear-ye, hear-ye. We’ve got a show happening coming up on Thursday, October 17th at our space. It’s another punk show. For this one we have the band Night Witch coming all the way from Tallahassee, Florida. Night Witch features a guy who presses small runs of records and *little fun fact* pressed the Eggman limited flex. He also played at Dumb Records like five years ago and at Black Sheep in another band like 10 years ago. His name is Tyler by the way. Stream some of Night Witch’s music on the player below. Speaking of Eggman, a newer Springfield band features members of Eggman called “Black Box” is playing. Who else is playing? Foam Fangers. Who is opening this show? GRINN.

This show starts at 7:00 and admission is $7. Check out a facebook event for this show right here. Also of course check out our shows page for a look at what else we’ve got coming up this fall.

“Oktoberfest” This Saturday (October 5th) Outside of Buzz Bomb Brewing Co.

IMG_9342.jpg

We know that after a successful outdoor free outdoor concert, you are all thirsty for more, thirsty to keep on supporting live music in this city so we can maintain our new “Springfield Rock City” worldwide status. Well you are in luck, this Saturday, October 5th, Buzz Bomb Brewing Co. just one street over from us is putting on “Oktoberfest” outside. From our understanding, there will be a big outdoor tent set up just like they did for Buzzfest back in March. This is also supposed to be going on all day from 2:00 pm until 1:00 am way late at night. As far as we can tell there are no age constraints to see the bands play outside, and the event is maybe $16 based on the facebook event. Who’s playing?? Headlining this big one is Twistin’ Tarantulas from Detroit! Pistol Pete who more recently moved to Springfield plays upright bass and sings for the band, check out our radio interview we recently did with Pete. Also of course, big heavy hitting local act NIL8 will be going on before Twistin’ Tarantulas take the stage. According to the facebook event, NIL8 go on at 7:45 and Tarantulas are at 9:30 pm. There is also a Chicago based band called “North By North” playing. You can check out their music streaming on the player below. And earlier on is the Bolzen Beer Band playing some sort of traditional… beer music and there’s a… Hammerschlagen Tournament???

Check out the full facebook event with schedule for this one right here. Buzz Bomb is right over on Adams Street – 406 E Adams right through the alley from us.

71153743_10219544900320850_4065991160542265344_n.jpg

Last night, true Springfield rock and roll history was made!! If you were among the hundreds in attendance last night, then you could probably feel just how magical it was. We feel the need to once again thank everyone who helped make last night possible – of course thank you Shonen Knife and The Hooten Hallers for coming and playing! Thank you Slingshot Dakota and coming and playing an aftershow in our own space as well! Thank you Jason Perry for being the one to originally get in touch with Shonen Knife about playing here in the first place, we can not take credit for getting the band! Thank you of course to Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s for being the best Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s in the world, and to this tweet from Sean Neumann for going completely viral yesterday. And of course thank you to all of the sponsors that were willing to chip in to help us meet the funding we needed to make the concert possible and for free to the whole community! Those are:

Nightshop
Grab-a-Java, Inc.
Activator Magazine
Hardee’s
Buzz Bomb Brewing Company
Copper Pot Cooking Studio
Dumb Records
The Real 217 Prublems
ColorDerm Permanent MakeUP
Good Heart Tattoos
The Radon Lounge
Rail Splitter CrossFit
Redbird Electric Tattooing

And of course thank you all for coming out, that was by far the biggest turnout event on a Monday night in Springfield we have ever seen!!

Tonight at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s: Shonen Knife, The Hooten Hallers + Aftershow tonight at Dumb Records: Slingshot Dakota, The Telephone Junkies

Tonight is THE night!! There are four bands playing tonight between a big main show and big aftershow at what is certainly a once in a lifetime chance to see Shonen Knife from Japan play for free right here in Springfield. That’s right if you haven’t heard by now we don’t know what, but Shonen Knife from Japan, formed in 1981, is playing at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s. They are on their 22nd full length album, “Sweet Candy Power” and on a big U.S. tour! Stream one of their earlier albums below. They are coming through with The Hooten Hallers playing some rockabilly from Missouri. That show starts at 6:00 pm at Rock N’ Roll Hardee’s (2501 Stevenson Drive), and it’s FREE. Car pooling or finding elsewhere other than the main Hardee’s lot is encouraged. Find a facebook event for that one right here.

THEN, after that there is a big aftershow over at Dumb Records. That one features big Top Shelf Records touring duo Slingshot Dakota from western Pennsylvania somewhere. The Telephone Junkies will be kicking things off for that one, we are shooting to start things at 9:00 or so, or whenever makes sense from whenever Shonen Knife will be finishing their set. Find a facebook event for that one right here. That show is $8 admission.

Tonight at Dumb Records: Starstuff, Reggie & The Demons, Layers, Vertrell Yates

There’s so much going on this weekend that we almost forgot that we do have an all local show lined up at Bread tonight. This one is going to be neat! A couple of the acts are hot off the open mic nights and straight onto this real deal show. Okay, so at the top of the bill is Starstuff – a fairly new local rock act that had played Black Sheep at one point towards the end of things. We don’t think they have anything online. There is also “Layers” – the poetry music fused duo and sometimes solo act. Come and eat it up with your ears. Reggie & The Demons is playing… who most of us know as “Niko”, this is the name of his new solo project that performed at our last open mic. Then opening things we have the bass / poetry fusion act Vetrell Yates, also playing his first real deal show at our space.

All of this starts at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up at the near future.
