222739_10200133182326427_701126124_nWould you look at that. That’s very funny, Brandon Carnes. It looks like Black Sheep Radio is back tomorrow with all of its wild and crazy antics. Tomorrow we will be speaking to a few members of the pop punk band Up In Arms, who will also be playing the show at Black Sheep tomorrow night along with Good Luck Varsity, Lovecow, and Yogi Beara. Then we also have Dylan McIntosh of Dog Years Records, which is a small independent record label ran out of Springfield. We get the chance to chat with Dylan about how his label is going and what is in store for Dog Years in the future.

Black Sheep Radio airs every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm. You can also listen to the show online at wqna.org. Miss an episode? That’s okay because we stream old episodes on our radio page!

Recap on Scott Blacula/Dino Bravo Battle Set!

16036_4956821475680_1934007736_n

Today we bring you news of how the Scott Blacula/Dino Bravo battle set this past Saturday went! We actually are not really sure who the winner was… we do know that the battle went into the final rounds and overtime and things were extremely intense. It was hard to tell who the real winner was amidst all of the on-stage wrestling, underwear, pizza clocks, and moshing sewer clowns. It looks like Scott Blacula resolved their issue of not being able to find a bassist, but Ivan of Dino Bravo was not the one to join them on bass- it was a random member of the crowd instead. We also know that Dino Bravo has returned to their home turf of Champaign where they continue to wreak havoc (see video below).

Some Things Can’t Be Ignored: Fagalonius P. Hector

hector-collageSpringfield music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored have added a new post featuring 1994 recordings from the old Springfield band Fagalonius P. Hector. From Some Thing’s Can’t Be Ignored:

Ok, folks…this one goes WAY back!  14 years this August, to be exact!  What we have here is an extremely rare piece of Springfield music history.  Most of you who visit this blog have never heard these recordings.  This is Fagalonius P. Hector rehearsing (at the Scanlan’s house I’m guessing??) back in August of 1994.  I’m guessing this was recorded through a 4-track or powered mixer or something because it sounds pretty damn good!  Those of you who weren’t around or just not old enough to have been attending shows back then and never saw these guys live can FINALLY experience what it was like to do so (sorta).

You can stream the songs below or you can head over to Some Things Can’t Be Ignored and check out the full post here.

Hospital Job’s Downer Downer Downer Reviewed on Punknews.org

2785685988-1We recently let you all know that Hospital Job‘s new LP Downer Downer Downer was (and still is) streaming on the popular music website Punknews.org. Today we bring you news that the album Downer Downer Downer was reviewed on the site and received a rating of three and a half of five stars. From the review:

Springfield, Ill.’s Hospital Job includes members of the Copyrights, the Nephrons and Horrible Things, which add to the hype of Downer, Downer, Downer a lot. Needless to say, with the eyes focused firmly on how these sounds would influence the collective effort of Hospital Job, there’s a sense of contentment with the record delivered. I personally had a bit more expectation from it but while it fell just short of my personal bar, it still works well enough.

You can check out the full review here. The vinyl LP was released late last year on Insubordination Records. You can find a link to buy the LP here. Hospital Job will also be playing with The Timmys, Off With Their Heads, and Teenage Bottlerocket on March 11th. Tickets for that show can be purchased here.

Also playing the show will be Austin & Austin and Mildred. Will those two bands be battling it out as well? Who knows! We do know that the show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5.
