Springfield music blog Some Things Can’t Be Ignored have added a new post featuring 1994 recordings from the old Springfield band Fagalonius P. Hector. From Some Thing’s Can’t Be Ignored:

Ok, folks…this one goes WAY back! 14 years this August, to be exact! What we have here is an extremely rare piece of Springfield music history. Most of you who visit this blog have never heard these recordings. This is Fagalonius P. Hector rehearsing (at the Scanlan’s house I’m guessing??) back in August of 1994. I’m guessing this was recorded through a 4-track or powered mixer or something because it sounds pretty damn good! Those of you who weren’t around or just not old enough to have been attending shows back then and never saw these guys live can FINALLY experience what it was like to do so (sorta).

Hospital Job’s Downer Downer Downer Reviewed on Punknews.org

We recently let you all know that Hospital Job‘s new LP Downer Downer Downer was (and still is) streaming on the popular music website Punknews.org. Today we bring you news that the album Downer Downer Downer was reviewed on the site and received a rating of three and a half of five stars. From the review:

Springfield, Ill.’s Hospital Job includes members of the Copyrights, the Nephrons and Horrible Things, which add to the hype of Downer, Downer, Downer a lot. Needless to say, with the eyes focused firmly on how these sounds would influence the collective effort of Hospital Job, there’s a sense of contentment with the record delivered. I personally had a bit more expectation from it but while it fell just short of my personal bar, it still works well enough.

Andrew Jackson Jihad at Black Sheep on April 14th

We are very excited to announce that on Sunday April 14th Sean Bonnette of the folk punk band Andrew Jackson Jihad will be performing at Black Sheep. Joining him will be Ian Graham of the band Cheap Girls. Sean of AJJ had this to say about the upcoming tour:

On this tour I will be playing lots of different kinds of songs. Old, new, covers, deep cuts, etc… There will probably be a clipboard at the merch table where you can write in requests. Mark from Anxiety Machine Records will be there too. It will be a truly fantastic voyage.

This is some exciting news. Some of you may remember early summer of 2010 when Andrew Jackson Jihad first played at Black Sheep. This time around (April 14th 2013) the show will also feature two younger local bands Lovecow and Austin & Austin. You can expect a facebook event for the show along with a flier soon. The show will start at 7:00 pm with an admission of $8. Don’t forget to also check our shows page to see what other shows are happening at Black Sheep before then!

Tonight at Black Sheep: Scott Blacula/Dino Bravo (Battle Set), Austin & Austin, Mildred

Did any of you see the Our Lady/Scott Blacula battle set that happened on New Years Eve at the Harm House? It was intense. Tonight Scott Blacula are coming back to take on another long time foe, and that is Dino Bravo from Champaign. Both bands claim to be the original wrestle band, but there can only be one. This will truly be a great and historic battle set in Springfield and Central Illinois music history. Both bands have been going at it for a while now, they were on the radio yesterday and they have also made youtube videos taunting each other which can be viewed here.

Also playing the show will be Austin & Austin and Mildred. Will those two bands be battling it out as well? Who knows! We do know that the show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. Full Skeletal Lightning Fest Lineup in Champaign Announced

Lumpy & The Dumpers Added to 2/24 at Black Sheep

We have another surprise band that has been added to the show at Black Sheep on Sunday, February 24th! It is Lumpy & The Dumpers from St. Louis! Lumpy & The Dumpers will be making their triumphant return from playing in December at Black Sheep. That show along with a few others made the “top Springfield shows list of 2012.”

Black Sheep Radio Tomorrow: Scott Blacula

Black Sheep Radio tomorrow will be very intense and action-packed! This is because Scott Blacula will be invading the studio and talking to us about their long running feud with Champaign’s wrestle band Dino Bravo. We will also be taking the time to review and analyze the youtube videos both bands made to taunt each other. At some point we also may or may not be making a call to Dino Bravo himself! Both bands will be battling it out over a battle set at Black Sheep this Saturday.

We also have punk rock comedian Brandon Judd coming in for some extra commentary and a little bit of interviewing. You can catch the whole thing from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm tomorrow (Friday) on 88.3 WQNA FM, or also online here at the WQNA website. We also have a few old episodes of Black Sheep Radio streaming on our radio page.

Obi-Wan Kanblo Mi Announce Plans To Record

Local Star Wars ska punk band Obi-Wan Kanblo Mi have announced that they will be heading to the studio to record another EP sometime soon. The EP is supposed to be called Episode VI: Return of the Red Eyes. From the band’s facebook page:

Our Lady Tour Photos

As many of you know, Our Lady is back from tour at it seems like they all had a blast! They have posted an album of photos on their facebook page of their adventures, which you can find here. On this past tour Our Lady ventured into the southern U.S. and played a few dates in states including Texas, Florida, and more. You can also check out a few of the photos below. Viele’s Planet Reunion on 4/20 at Capital City Bar & Grill

It is not too often that a musical event going on in Springfield sells out before we even have the chance to announce it! Either way, we feel it is important to mention that there will be a reunion show for Springfield bar and music venue Viele’s Planet at Capital City Bar and Grill on Saturday April 20th this year. The show is not taking place at Viele’s Planet, but bands that frequently played the old venue will be playing the show and some will also be reuniting for this one show. Viele’s Planet was important to the all ages scene at one point because they had all ages shows on Sundays. Bands playing the reunion show include Taxi War Dance, Lidlifter, Grim, UAT, Prone, Petcock, Midnight Dreary, Clone, Stronger Than Seven, and Swirl!

For the 500 of you that were lucky enough to buy tickets before they sold out, the show will begin at 3:00 pm. The show is also ages 21 and over. You can find a facebook event here. Also be sure to check out what other shows are coming up in Springfield over at our Springfield shows page!
