The show announcements don’t get any more last minute than this! We apologize for not getting this one up on our site until just now- we have some catching up to do! Today we are letting you know about this show happening tomorrow- featuring five bands happening at Black Sheep. We have a couple of bands coming from Pennsylvania- one of them being “Above The Mendoza” pictured above, and music streaming below. They will be on tour with another Pennsylvania band called “Am0ra” for their “Road to Famfest Tour.” Then we have a lineup of three bands from the area as supporting acts. We’ve got the poppy pop-punk band Fill In The Blank. Then we got the hard-rockin’ metal band Abyss. And looks like opening things up we have Terribly Happy– the pop punk band from Peoria, Illinois.

Whoops, our little recap of the Black Sheep Battle of the Bands that happened one week ago from yesterday is a little bit overdue! We are sure some of you have been waiting to hear about the results from the battle. Well, this year we definitely had the most bands participating in the battle- seven whole bands, and all of them showed up and played! We have nothing bad to say about any of the performances- all of them were great! And our judges loved them all too! Let’s take a look at our winners:

First place in the crowd voting contest went to Stems! Looks like they will be playing Black Sheep Fest 2016 on August 6th as a result.

First place in the judges voting went to Skunkworks! Looks like they will receive a free recorded demo by Mario Cannamela.

A third place prize was awarded to Kail, who will be getting a guest spot on Lincoln’s Legends Podcast.

Thanks again to everyone who came out and participated in the battle this year! See you all at Black Sheep Fest 2016 if not before then!

Also on tour is a band called “Of Brighter Skies” and they come from somewhere up in Wisconsin. Then we have three local bands on the bill, including the solid metalcore act Set Fire To Salem. Today on Black Sheep Radio: Springfield Illinois Music History

13568815_1122908187770824_9005252337937711180_o.jpg

We actually have a VERY new and exciting episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show lined up today! We have a very special guest! It’s a special episode! This episode is special because we have Nereida and Bob Littrell coming in, who happen to run the very interesting Springfield Illinois Music History page on facebook. The page has been constantly wow-ing us with photos and videos of Springfield bands from as far back as the 1930’s, including much of the 1960’s, 1970’s, and 1980’s. Nereida and Bob will be coming in to talk to us about the project, and we will likely be talking about plenty of bands from our town’s past. We also have quite the playlist lined up, mostly of music from Springfield bands of the past. You can pretty much expect most of it to be from ten years ago and earlier. So buckle your seat belts in this afternoon and get ready to learn!

The Black Sheep Radio Show airs today and every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. There were some problems with the signal from the CACC studio last week, if there are problems again this week you might need to stream the show on wqna.net online also from 4:00 to 6:00 pm!

New Band Pages: Attic Salt

atticsalt

It’s been a minute since we’ve brought you a brand new band page on our site. That doesn’t mean there has been a shortage of new Springfield bands forming though. We’ve got some catching up to do, and we are starting today with the new fuzzy power-poppy punky band Attic Salt! Attic Salt do not have any recorded music yet, but you can check out their new band page on our site and read more about them on their new page right here. Also check out a video of the band playing live at their last show right here. Attic Salt currently does not have any more shows lined up, but we will make sure to let you know when they do!

Check out any of our 60+ current band pages we have set up right here. There are even more past band pages you can check out right here. Do you play in a Springfield band we have not yet gotten a page set up for? We would love to hear from you! Send an email to blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will work with you to set something up.

243_w_fullbig.jpg

Would you look at that! That up there is the only T-shirt design submission we have had so far for Black Sheep Fest 2016! We announced our T-shirt designing contest for the fest a few weeks ago and haven’t had a whole lot of responses since then. Yes, everyone is welcome to participate! This is just a reminder that we will be collecting submissions by midnight on next Tuesday, July 19th. You can submit your designs to us through email at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com. From there we will have a poll going on our site so you can vote for your favorite designs, and one will be chose to be printed as the official Black Sheep Fest 2016 t-shirt!

Again, Black Sheep Fest 2016 is happening this year on Saturday, August 6th. It is our ninth Black Sheep Fest since we started having them in 2008. You can find a facebook event for the fest right here, and a Black Sheep Fest 2016 page on our site.

After the Black Sheep Battle of the Bands last weekend and dancing wolves on our stage, it’s time to get back into the swing of things a little bit with a regular ol’ show tonight. This one features the youthful and rowdy punk band Panzys, who we have not seen in quite a minute at Black Sheep. Make sure to make it out to their spectacular return. The touring / out of town band on this bill is Chicago’s own Lower Automation. They play an experimental type of punk, and you can find their music streaming on the player below. Starting this show off we have a couple of wacky Ted Keylon projects. The first of which is TANG (The Avant National Guard), who will be bringing the noise and the weirdness. Opening things up is the electric ukulele-driven rock band, Sweet Bippy.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. In the meantime you can check out our shows page for a look at what all is coming up at Black Sheep this summer.
