bigreleases.jpg

After much careful research on what was released in local Springfield music this year, we finally have our year end survey together for 2016! We came up with a grand total of 34 Springfield releases this year, which is much more than we had last year in 2015! Great job all of you creative artists and musicians out there! Our survey includes your favorite local releases of the year, also a question to list off your favorite songs, and also your favorite shows that happened in town. We’ve also included a suggestion box if you have any input on the types of things you want to see in 2017 around Southtown or on our website.

Check out that survey RIGHT HERE. We’ll be taking responses from now up until EDIT: 3:33 pm on the dot on Monday, December 26th.

Again, here is the list of local releases from this past year with links for you to listen to all of them if you want to study up on this year in local music! And if we are still forgetting something, you can still comment below or email us at blacksheepspringfield@gmail.com and we will add it to the survey as soon as possible.

The weather outside is very frightful. We are supposed to be having our one show of the weekend tonight at Black Sheep – and it’s an “Ugly Christmas Sweater Show!” Fingers crossed on the roads not being too bad tonight and this thing not being canceled! We’ll be sure to let you know on our pages if it is canceled. But for now let’s plan on it happening and come out and bring a sweater! Five bands all from the area bringing you that holiday cheer. For this show we have Vonne– the chill pop band perfect for this time of year. We also have Lavender featuring Kyle Noonan- one of the ones busy heading up the new Southtown Sound project. Before that is the Central-Illinois based electric folk punk band Old Fox Road. Check out some of their music streaming below. We also have our close Decatur friends rolling through in the bands Spooky Poo and Gadget. Should be a good time!

It’s Friday so today from 4:00 to 6:00 pm as always we have another exciting episode of The Black Sheep Radio Show! This week there are once again multiple guests fit into our two hour time slot to make for a great episode. There are no shows at Black Sheep tonight, but there IS the “Christmas Explosion” going on at The Radon Lounge. To represent that we have The Dandelion Pickers (pictured above) coming in to the studio to talk about what to expect at The Radon tonight, and we might even have them attempt to play a song or two live for us in the studio. Our second guest is local poet Emma Wilson. Emma is one of the creative minds behind season 2 of The Studio Show which is also gearing up for a season finale within this next week. We will get to talk to Emma about that and some other things.

Check out our show from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on WQNA 88.3 FM. Stream it live online the same time at wqna.net. Also head over to our radio page for a look at some downloadable episodes of the past.

Dumb Records at White Oaks Mall on Monday, December 19th

unnamed.jpg

What do you know! It looks like Dumb Records will be making a return to the mall this holiday season for one day only as a pop up show on Monday, December 19th. Last year was Dumb’s first time setting up in the mall and we had a fun time with Santa (record of the night photo shown above). This year Dumb Records will have a very similar set up in the lower level of the mall next to Santa and near the carousel. You can find the pop up shop there the full day – the mall is open then from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Come do some holiday shopping if you so wish. The setup will likely include vinyl, gift cards, and we will also be spinning records on a player provided by Sundown One who sells higher end audio equipment and more on 4685 Wabash Avenue.

Dumb’s regular location of 1107 South Grand will be closed this day, but is still open every other day noon to 8:00 pm.

Our friends over at Springfield house venue The Radon Lounge are once again throwing their big annual “Christmas Explosion” and this time we don’t have anything planned that night at Black Sheep so we can all make it out. The Christmas Explosion this year is this upcoming Friday the 16th and it will also be a celebration of five years of The Radon Lounge putting on shows in Springfield. We have our Ugly Christmas Sweater show happening the next day on the 17th and the Black Sheep Holiday Show happening the following week on Friday the 23rd. The lineup for The Radon Lounge’s Christmas Explosion this year features Timbre – the Harpist from Nashville returning to The Radon Lounge. Check out some of her music streaming on the player below. Also on this show is the shoegaze act from Lincoln, Illinois also familiar to the Radon – Hushpad. Also is the folk duo The Dandelion Pickers. We have also be told that the Springfield “Uketopians” will be closing out the night with some Christmas Ukulele tunes.

With this show being at The Radon Lounge, you can also expect some food and hot chocolate and arcade games of some sort. Things kick off over there at 6:00 pm and admission is $5. If you don’t know where the Radon Lounge is you can inquire on their website. Also find a facebook event for this one right here. Check out our Springfield shows page for a look at more shows outside of Black Sheep.
