We’ve had our grand opening – now let’s look at what other things are popping up that are cool in our new downtown home area! Our friends from over at The Pharmacy Art Gallery have also announced a big move to a new downtown location and they have been working on their new space even longer than we have! The new space is located at 623 E. Adams Street, right next door to Recycled Records (also our friends). After months of working hard on their new space they are finally ready for their grand opening and first art show with “Vision” happening Friday and Saturday, March 22nd and 23rd from 6:00 to 9:00 pm both nights.

Find a facebook event for the art show right here. The event of course is all ages and donation based. We’ll have this one and other upcoming Pharmacy art shows listed on our Springfield shows page.

A Successful Grand Opening! Thank You!

Wow! We want to thank everyone who came out to the official grand opening of Dumb Records at our new downtown location yesterday. We had a packed house for the ribbon cutting with the mayor and Chili Bowl Mullet Man and plenty of other friends and familiar faces. Thanks to Foamed Up Coffee for being there as well. This photo up top was taken by radio station 97.7 QLZ.

Our store is now open every day at 418 E Monroe Street from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, and Thursday we will switch over to permanent full hours 10:00 am to 8:00 pm. Shows will be happening here very very soon from what we can tell! We will also be participating in the downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade next weekend!

Dumb Records Downtown Grand Opening Today

grandopeningfornow

Wow, today is a big day for us over at the brand new Dumb Records downtown (418 E Monroe Street). Sure, we’ve been open in some form or another for two months now but today we are making it official with our “grand opening” for our new store and venue space complete with a ribbon cutting.

The store is open all day today from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. The mayor and The Chili Bowl Mullet Man himself will be here for a ribbon cutting at 11:00 am (don’t miss it). There will also be coffee provided (for free and for sale) by Foamed Up – the new coffee shop now located in White Oaks Mall.

And of course we will have records, CDs, cassettes, shirts, and more for sale in our new store. No, we will not have any live music (that is coming very very soon), but we are pretty much ready to go once we get approval and we are showing off our new venue portion of our new space.

Check out a facebook event for all of this right here. See you today!

HISO Music Presents New Webseries “The Meeting”

Screen Shot 2019-03-07 at 5.19.48 PM.png

Our friends over at HISO Music, which recently opened up their facility near the corner of 5th and South Grand are hard at work doing cool things. Earlier this year they launched a new Springfield based web series called “The Meeting.” Maybe somewhat similar to things you might have seen on “The Studio Show” (put on by a different group in a building on South Grand), “The Meeting” is a fictional series about a music and entertainment company called “SOHI” starting off and overcoming obstacles together (maybe similar to what HISO music is).

So far there have been four episodes released, and the plan has been for new episodes to continue coming out every Monday. Check out those episodes on the HISO Music site right here.

March 23rd at The Radon Lounge: Otto San, Kid Ziggy, Papa Luke, Jazz Robots, Animals With Human Names

52602369_2378579532152561_6026750199110565888_o.jpg

There are no shows lined up at our space right now (and not even a whole lot in Springfield at all as far as we can tell), so we want to tell you about cool shows still going on at cool places like The Radon Lounge. This one is happening later this month on Saturday, March 23rd at The Radon. It’s their first ever all hip hop show over there! Wow! We are not even familiar with most of these artists. At the top of the lineup is Otto San – is that someone from Springfield? Jeff? Up before that there’s “Kid Ziggy.” We’ve got Kid Ziggy’s soundcloud player embedded below right down there, you can go ahead and have a listen. Looks like Kid Ziggy is in fact from right here in Springfield. Before that is “Papa Luke”, yes from right here in town. Jazz Robots… are playing as well…. from Chicago! Wow! Last but not least is Animals With Human Names who of course we all know. And as usual The Radon Lounge is getting all fancy pantsy with having guest artists and this time it’s art of “Talismen” on display.

This Radon Lounge show starts at 7:00 pm on 3/23 and admission is just five bucks. Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is going on around town (not a whole lot from what we can tell). Ask about where the Radon Lounge is if you want at radonlounge@gmail.com.

The newest issue of Activator Magazine for March 2019 is out and now available for free at Dumb Records (and has been for nearly a week now, wow!) As you can see, the issue features American Springfield punk rock band Foam Fangers pictured on the cover. You aren’t the boss of them! This issue features album reviews and show calendars as usual, and also poetry. We have a nice update and write-up on things have been going over at the new Dumb Records here downtown, also an informative piece on the state of WQNA by Ken No. There’s a concert review for “Grouper” by David Gracon, an interview with downtown brewery Buzz Bomb and “Buzz Fest” they have coming up, and an interview with Lucky Patterson of The Wolf Crick Boys, and also local rapper “Deezy Da Paperboy”, and other local rapper “City” (Kool Krew). And more! It’s jam packed!

Also Activator added another level to their Patreon page which you can become a monthly donor for – for a $9 level you can receive a special monthly 16-page photo zine that the magazine is going to be putting out every month!? Wow!

We’ve also got plenty of back issues from the past few months of Activator available inside of our store right now as well!

Snoop Dogg + More Announced For Illinois State Fair 2019 Grandstand Acts

It looks like most of the acts have been announced for the 2019 Illinois State Fair Grandstand lineup right here in Springfield in August (can you believe it’s almost August already)?? One big and notable act is popular rapper and actor Snoop Dogg (pictured above), performing in Springfield for the first time(?). That’s happening Friday, August 16th and tickets are going for as low as $25 for the back back row. Other acts include the country music duo “Dan + Shay”, and then also on the country end of the music spectrum is “Old Dominion“. Then you’ve got the return of vocal group Pentatonix, and also some sort of Neil Diamond cover group called “The Traveling Salvation Show” (why couldn’t we get the real Neil Diamond)? Then the one other one is some pop group of boys called “Why Don’t We“, very interesting.

The schedule and ticket pre-sales for all of those acts can be found on the State Fair grandstand website right here. Have a great summer!

Dumb Records Participating in Downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 16th

DUMBOPARADE.jpg

Remember our big green elephant? Well, we almost forgot about it. On Saturday, March 16th we will be taking it out of hiding and participating in the 35th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade downtown Springfield (our first year participating in this particular parade). We will be pulled by Miles T Shirts once again.

The parade happens right at 12:00 pm on that day, and we believe it goes for one hour. The route starts at the Horace Mann parking lot, works it’s way down Jefferson Street, then to 5th street, then loops around at either Capitol or Monroe and goes to 5th.

Our store will be open all day that day as well – from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm and during the parade. Come on downtown! Check out a facebook event for this right here.

Show Tonight at Lincoln Library

libbbybb

Did you know that later this afternoon there is going to be a live music show going on over at The Lincoln Library downtown not too far from us? Incredible!! And it’s a free show!?!? Why would anyone miss out on a one in a lifetime chance of an opportunity to attend this show?? Bands playing include Springfield’s very own pop / punk group Attic Salt at the top of the bill. Check out their music streaming on the player below. Also is everyone’s favorite Champaign rock group “Nectar” which has played in Springfield many times. Opening things up is Mary Jo Curry according to the flier above, who we do not know much about.

That starts at 6:00 pm inside the Lincoln Library downtown on Capitol and 7th streets… we are guessing somewhere on the ground floor of the library. The event is free and all ages. Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up in Springfield while we are waiting on our venue space to get approved.
