Today we are bringing you a video of the Springfield metalcore band Vacant Skies performing their song “Nothing Close to Family” at Black Sheep last month on January 19th. The show was a part of the eight-band “Winter Wreck” that happened featuring bands of all genres and quite the crowd. Check out the video on the player below.

Vacant Skies currently do not have any shows lined up at Black Sheep but we will make sure to let you know when they do! Also check out our vids/pics page for a look at more videos of local and touring bands performing at Black Sheep throughout the years.

We have a pretty big show at Black Sheep happening tonight! There are a few twists too- well, actually just one twist. Unfortunately Our Lady had to drop the show tonight. In their place we are getting a rare performance by Springfield’s own Looming who have not played on the Black Sheep stage since September. Wowee. This show is also the EP release show for central-Illinois shoegaze band Lavender. You can stream their new EP on the player below, and then purchase it at the show tonight. Also on the bill is post hardcore band LifeWithout from Alton, Illinois. Then we have Champaign friends and emo band Krelboyne, who have played here many times. Opening things up is the solo project of BJ Pearce called “Pretend I’m Not There”.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

Today on The Black Sheep Radio Show: “The Dumb Records Radio Hour”

IMG_0191.jpg

Today we are trying something very new on The Black Sheep Radio Show just for the heck of it. For the first time ever we are actually bringing the show to the Capital Area Career Center where we will be actually be recording the show live. Brian Galecki is going to be hosting this shindig this time around instead of Brandon Carnes, and you can expect to hear a few guests come on. Instead of playing all local music and bands that are coming to town, Dumb Records will be taking over the airwaves this time around and will only be playing vinyl records that you can find for sale in the store.

The Dumb Records Radio Hour will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on 88.3 WQNA fm. You can listen on your radio dial then or also live at wqna.net. Be sure to also check out our radio page for a few old episodes that you can download.

It’s Friday and there is a show happening at Black Sheep tonight! Tonight We have the local band Set Piece playing this show, who describe themselves as “heavy indie rock.” You might be able to stream some of their music on the player below. There has also been a slight change to the lineup since we first announced the show. The show will still be just three bands, but instead of Governor Street as previously announced, we now have the Springfield sludge band Green Messiah on the bill. Then the third band on the bill Black Ops Agency, which is a long running rock band featuring members of TANG.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. We might have heard a rumor about their being food at the show!? We’ll see! You can check out a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a list of everything coming up at Black Sheep in the near future.

It’s getting harder and harder for us to keep up with all of these March show announcements! It seems like there is more than one popping up a day at this point! This show is happening on Saturday, March 12th. This show will feature Springfield emo rockers Wir Können (how nice). The one out of town band we have on this bill is the band Fourside from Bloomington/Normal. You can stream one of their tracks on the player below. We also have the three-piece newer Springfield punk band Moondead, which features members of previous bands Bad Banshee, Garter, and Wilt Candy. Opening things up we have locals, The Locals playing some nice and friendly pop rock music.

The show here will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a better look at what else is coming up at Black Sheep in the next few months.

Kharybdis: “Era of Deception” EP

It looks like Springfield metalcore band Kharybdis are back in action and have released a brand new 6 track EP entitled Era of Deception online. You can stream the six-track EP on the player below. The EP can also be purchased for download on Karybdis’s bandcamp page. From the band’s bandcamp page:

We traveled to Cleveland, Ohio with only 9 days in total to record this EP, may or may not re-release in the future with better mix. This is was each of our first times in a studio and also our first release as a band. Some may recognize a few of the songs as we have been playing them for 3 years now! Thanks for listening! Share with your friends, spread the word!

It does not look like Kharybdis has any live shows lined up right now, but we will be sure to keep you all updated on any Black Sheep shows in the near future!

There sure are a lot of shows being lined up at Black Sheep this spring. We are starting to overflow and burst at the seams! This is a show happening here on Saturday, March 5th. It is going to be a hoot. For this show we have Indianapolis based band Mr. Clit & The Pink Cigarettes who are no strangers to Black Sheep or Springfield in general. The band brings that rock n’ roll goodness that you all crave with that tinge of punk and bright hair coloring. Check out some of their music streaming below. We also have their good friends and Springfield experimental rock band Boon on the bill. Before that is something interesting and that is Slave Cable- a newer St. Louis noise project featuring members of Animal Teeth. Opening things up for the night we have the wild and reckless noise band TANG.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and $5 just like all of the other good old fashioned punk shows. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a list of more shows coming up at Black Sheep this spring.
