Screen Shot 2016-03-09 at 8.27.55 AM.png

Coming up on Saturday, March 19th (before the show that is already scheduled) we will be hosting the first of possibly many meeting at Black Sheep Cafe to discuss the beginning efforts of forming an all inclusive DIY Theatre Troupe! Alex Martin, founder of the troupe, will be discussing her motives for why having an alternative theatre outlet is a good idea in Springfield, how you can get involved, and what the possibilities for troupe activities will be. Ranging from politically charged scripts to weird and avant guard performances, this troupe will be a must see must do for all those who want to witness and/or participate.

The meeting will be taking place on Saturday, March 19th from 5-6 pm and is open to everyone. There, you will be able to learn about these topics as well as schedule an appointment or audition to further specify how your interests and talents can benefit the troupe. Find a facebook event for the meeting right here. Even if you aren’t interested in taking part, come to this meeting to learn more!

There’s nothing quite like a Wednesday night metal show to get you through the middle of the week, and that’s just what we have going on here at Black Sheep tonight. For this show we have the band Arson Party from Kalamazoo, Michigan. You can stream a song of theirs on the player below. In addition to Arson Party we have a handful of local metal acts. The first of those is Set Fire To Salem bringing the metalcore for the night. We also have nearby metal group Through Burning Eyes from Alton, Illinois. We are pretty sure another addition to the show has been the local rock metal band Abyss, who will be bringing the intense mosh dance.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a list of shows coming up at Black Sheep.

Screen Shot 2016-03-08 at 11.09.19 PM.png

Tonight we are bringing you four debut songs from a new garage-rock band to the Springfield area going by the name of “The Nine Elevens.” All we know about this new project is that it features members of Evan Mitchell the one-man band. We have also been told that these four songs come from an upcoming LP the band is working on to be released in the year 2017, which might seem like a ways off. You can check out those new songs on the youtube player below. As far as we know The Nine Elevens currently do not have any live shows lined up at the moment.

We have a show coming up very quick in just ten days for Our Lady‘s return from SXSW on Friday, March 18th. To follow up really quick on Our Lady’s GoFundMe Campaign- the band was successful in reaching their goal and it looks like they will be getting their van fixed in time! As a result the band has put their new song “Circle Around My Neck” up for free on their bandcamp page, which you can find right here and also streaming below. Our Lady will be heading out on the road with the band Lume who are an emo band from Chicago, and will also be playing this show at Black Sheep. Also on the bill is Champaign emo/post-rock band Kreylboyne who are no strangers to Black Sheep. And we have another band on the bill – Hate Your Friends who are touring out from Denton Texas, and feature members of bands who have also played here at Black Sheep before.

The show will start at 7:00 pm and will cost $5, which is a steal for a show will all out of town and touring bands. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where you can look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep in the next few months.

Wolf Luv: “Fighting My Future”

a2102806267_10.jpg

Normally we do not post about releases from bands outside of Springfield here on our site, but after a call and a talk with the wolf we feel that it is necessary to tell you about the newest release from Champaign/Urbana band Wolf Luv. This second demo, Fighting My Future is being released by Springfield-based cassette label Ooey Gooey Tapes, and the release show was also here at Black Sheep a little over one week ago. Because of that, we feel the release is very much worth mentioning. You can stream that 5-track tape below, or head over to the Ooey Gooey bandcamp page where you can download the release at your own price.

Wolf Luv do not have any shows lined up in Springfield at the moment. Check out the Ooey Gooey bandcamp page for other tapes recently put out by the label.
