Prepare yourselves for possibly our busiest month we’ve ever had to date! This one features the band Leggy from Cincinnati, Ohio. You can stream some of their music on the player below. It also features the new Springfield all-femme groove band Shark Week. Also on the show is Arc Flash from Kansas, who will be on tour with the band Leggy. With F///\\\M playing a final show inside Dumb Records at 7:00 pm tonight, the solo project of Brandon Carnes has decided to record one final 3-song release, being called the I Love You Project. The second track of the three “I Love You” features audio clips of many different phone calls Brandon collected of different people saying “I love you.” You can stream the full EP below, or also head over to the F///\\\M bandcamp page to download the songs at your own price.

F///\\\M will be playing one final show inside Dumb Records tonight at 7:00 pm along with Gutterpriest. For those of you who do not know, Brandon is also planning on moving out of Springfield and to Pittsburg next month, which unfortunately means the end of South Town Studio. The show tonight is free so come out!

Tonight at Dumb Records / Black Sheep: F///\\\M, Gutterpriest + Game Night

showtnight.jpg

It seems like the curse of van breakdowns has been strong with touring bands coming to play at Black Sheep! Tonight we had a couple of touring bands scheduled to play at Dumb Records but unfortunately they had to drop the gig after being stuck and broke down in Kentucky. However, we will still be having the show inside Dumb Records with just the two locals acts- F///\\\M and Gutterpriest. This will probably be the last F///\\\M show, so be sure to catch it out! The solo project of Brandon Carnes also released a new 3-song EP on the internet last night, which you can find streaming below.

Game night will also still be happening tonight at 8:00 pm. Come out at 7:00 pm to catch a couple of bands at Dumb, and then mosey on over to Black Sheep for a game of Yahtzee! All of this is now free. Check out a facebook event for the Dumb Records show right here, and also a facebook event for game night right here. Also check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up in Southtown in the next few months.

This show coming up in just twelve days at Black Sheep on Sunday, March 27th is going to be a huge one. It’s also happening on Easter day, how about that! Easter is not going to stop us from coming out to this one though, it is looking like it is the last Looming Springfield show for while, at least until August. The band is going through some changes due to members moving and while they will remain active, we might see less live shows at Black Sheep in the future. Also playing this show is Springfield heavy hitting band Our Lady, making an incredible lineup. We also have a few touring bands on the bill. The first of which is Hodera coming all the way from New Jersey. Stream some of their music on the player below. On a separate tour and coming from a different end of the punk scene we have Dry Heave– closing up their big spring break tour. They just recently put out a new tape on Springfield-based label Ooey Gooey. Opening things up we have a solo set by Isaac Arms from Champaign of the band Withershins.

This show will start at 7:00 pm and admission is $5. You can find a facebook event for the show right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a good look at what else is coming up as far as shows go around Southtown.

Exciting things are starting to happen at Dumb Records now that the store has acquired more space and opened up. On Thursday, March 24th we have a real treat coming, and that is the co-founder of Lookout Records, Larry Livermore. Mr. Livermore will be stopping by for the evening in support of his new book “How To Ru(i)n A Record Label” which talks about the story of how Lookout Records formed. For those of you unfamiliar, Lookout Records was responsible for releasing records from bands Green Day, Operation Ivy, as well as many others. From the event description:

Larry Livermore was the co-founder of Lookout Records, the editor and publisher of Lookout magazine, and a longtime columnist for Maximum Rocknroll and Punk Planet. A seminal figure in the Bay Area scene and in punk in general, Livermore walked away from the label at the height of its popularity.

Larry will read from his new book, How To Ru(i)n A Record Label: The Story of Lookout Records (released by Don Giovanni Records). He will probably tumble through his treasure chest of tales and maybe do some Q and A too. Don’t miss it.

More information on the book can be found right here. The event will be held inside Dumb Records at 7:00 pm on March 24th. It is also free, and Dumb Records will be event offering 20% off everything in store starting at 6:00 pm to get you out to this! Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a listing of events happening in Southtown.
