Exciting things are starting to happen at Dumb Records now that the store has acquired more space and opened up. On Thursday, March 24th we have a real treat coming, and that is the co-founder of Lookout Records, Larry Livermore. Mr. Livermore will be stopping by for the evening in support of his new book “How To Ru(i)n A Record Label” which talks about the story of how Lookout Records formed. For those of you unfamiliar, Lookout Records was responsible for releasing records from bands Green Day, Operation Ivy, as well as many others. From the event description:

Larry Livermore was the co-founder of Lookout Records, the editor and publisher of Lookout magazine, and a longtime columnist for Maximum Rocknroll and Punk Planet. A seminal figure in the Bay Area scene and in punk in general, Livermore walked away from the label at the height of its popularity.

Larry will read from his new book, How To Ru(i)n A Record Label: The Story of Lookout Records (released by Don Giovanni Records). He will probably tumble through his treasure chest of tales and maybe do some Q and A too. Don’t miss it.

More information on the book can be found right here. The event will be held inside Dumb Records at 7:00 pm on March 24th. It is also free, and Dumb Records will be event offering 20% off everything in store starting at 6:00 pm to get you out to this! Find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page for a listing of events happening in Southtown.

Screen Shot 2016-03-08 at 11.09.19 PM.png

Tonight we are bringing you four debut songs from a new garage-rock band to the Springfield area going by the name of “The Nine Elevens.” All we know about this new project is that it features members of Evan Mitchell the one-man band. We have also been told that these four songs come from an upcoming LP the band is working on to be released in the year 2017, which might seem like a ways off. You can check out those new songs on the youtube player below. As far as we know The Nine Elevens currently do not have any live shows lined up at the moment.

March 18th at Black Sheep: Our Lady, Lume, Krelboyne, Hate Your Friends

We have a show coming up very quick in just ten days for Our Lady‘s return from SXSW on Friday, March 18th. To follow up really quick on Our Lady’s GoFundMe Campaign- the band was successful in reaching their goal and it looks like they will be getting their van fixed in time! As a result the band has put their new song “Circle Around My Neck” up for free on their bandcamp page, which you can find right here and also streaming below. Our Lady will be heading out on the road with the band Lume who are an emo band from Chicago, and will also be playing this show at Black Sheep. Also on the bill is Champaign emo/post-rock band Kreylboyne who are no strangers to Black Sheep. And we have another band on the bill – Hate Your Friends who are touring out from Denton Texas, and feature members of bands who have also played here at Black Sheep before.

The show will start at 7:00 pm and will cost $5, which is a steal for a show will all out of town and touring bands. You can find a facebook event for this one right here. Also be sure to check out our shows page where you can look at everything else coming up at Black Sheep in the next few months.
