Tonight at Dumb Records: Larry Livermore: “How To Ru(i)n A Record Label”

There is some interesting and exciting stuff happening at Dumb Records tonight! That’s right, the store has punk legend and co-founder of California-based record label Lookout Records and important figure in the Bay Area punk scene- Larry Livermore coming by the store. Larry will be reading a little bit from his new book – How To Ru(i)n A Record Label, doing a Q & A, and just hanging out. Even if you are unfamiliar with Mr. Livermore’s work, come on out! The event will begin at 7:00 pm, (admission is free) and we will be offering 20% off everything inside Dumb Records starting at 6:00 pm through the rest of the night if you want to get to the store a little early. April 22nd at Black Sheep: Sammy & The Punk, Dear Darla, Ragna Rye, Fill In The Blank, Noesis, Terribly Happy

Here’s another April show announcement! We gotta keep up with these every single day because dang there are so many shows happening in April. This one is happening on Friday, April 24th at Black Sheep. The out of town on the bill for this one is the band Dear Darla from Indianapolis, IN. They play pop punk and you can stream their music on the player below. Other than we have a pretty hefty bill of local bands lined up. This includes the three-piece rock n’ punk outfit, called Sammy & The Punk. We also have the rockabilly folk band playing a rare Black Sheep show- Ragna Rye. One other out of town band but from nearby is the band Terribly Happy from Peoria, IL. We will be terribly happy to have them. Before that to get a good genre-mix in is the metalcore band Noesis from Carlinville, Illinois. And then last but not least is the local pop punk band Fill In The Blank.

Jeff Williams + Clare Frachey + More Featured in “Art Seeks” Video

From the same creators of The Studio Show is this nice “Art Seeks” video put together by Dave Heinzel, one of the main cameramen and editors behind The Studio Show. This five-minute long “Art Seeks” video is a follow up to a previous video called “Art Speaks” and it sheds light on the importance of keeping art and keeping art programs in public schools.

You might recognized a few local artists and musicians such as Clare Frachey of the band SAP (pictured above) and Jeff Williams of NIL8. You might even catch a glimpse of Dumb Records too! Check out the full video streaming below.

 

August 8th at Black Sheep: Echo of Silence, Noesis, Accents, Set Fire To Salem

Today we have a show announcement for a show happening on Monday, August 8th at Black Sheep which sure sounds like a wayyyys away. This one’s going to be a metal show with a couple of touring acts. This includes Echo of Silence from Detroit, Michigan (pictured above). You can check out their music streaming on the player below. Echo of Silence will also be touring with Central-Illinois band Noesis, who are no strangers to Black Sheep. Also on the show is the band Accents from Staunton, Illinois. And opening things up for now we have the local metalcore project Set Fire To Salem. There might be another band TBA added later on to the lineup.

Dumb Records Participating In Central Illinois Collectible Music Weekend

If you need something to do during the day this Saturday coming up in Springfield, we have just the thing for you! Dumb Records will be participating in the “Central Illinois Collectable Music Weekend” for the Springfield date, which is this Saturday, March 26th. There will be plenty of tables and booth set up for different record stores and collectors from all over the midwest. Dumb Records participated in one of these events about a year and a half ago, and it was a good time. The event will be taking place from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Route 66 Hotel on 625 East Joseph Street. Admission is $3 to the public. The store will also be remaining open at our usual location of 1107 South Grand East Ave at regular hours (noon-9:00 pm).

Don’t forget that the Black Sheep Art Show will also be taking place this Saturday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Black Sheep, and it is a free event. There will also be a noise show up in South Town Studio afterwards. You have the chance to make it to all!

It’s a new and exciting week at the new-and-improved Southtown record store Dumb Records (1107 South Grand East Ave.). It’s hard to believe but in just a couple of days the man responsible for releasing the first few Green Day and Operation Ivy records will be stopping by our shop with his new book for a free event! April 24th at Black Sheep: Sea Cycles, The Stems, The Locals, Shark Week

Today we have yet another April show announcement, this one is happening on Sunday, April 24th. This show is going to be pretty indie-rock. We have the band Sea Cycles (pictured above) from Jacksonville, Florida to play psychedelic experimental indie rock for us. You can check out some of their music on the player streaming below. Also on the bill is The Stems– the second or third Black Sheep show for a new band coming out of Taylorville, Illinois. Up before that we have the poppier band The Locals coming straight out of Springfield High School. First up is another new band and that is the girl-power groove band Shark Week.

New Band Pages: Omni-Rat

Today we are bringing you a brand new band page to add to our collection of current Springfield bands. This one is called Omni-Rat– they haven’t played any shows yet, but they do have some songs recorded. This band features members of Mystery Gift, Panzys, King Worm, Wir Können, and more. DUMB FEST 4-EVER Announcement #3

Surprise! You didn’t think another Dumb Fest announcement would come this fast, did ya? Well there are a LOT of bands playing the fest this year so we better get announcing them. Here’s another announcement with another whopping eight bands playing the fest this year on June 10th, 11th, and 12th. Yes, this year the lineup contains a band coming all the way from Australia!
